Though British tabloids have been rife with rumors that legendary classic rockers Pink Floyd would reunite to perform at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, guitarist David Gilmour says it's not going to happen.

"David Gilmour can confirm that there is no truth in recent media speculation about Pink Floyd re-uniting to perform for the 2012 London Olympics," a representative for Gilmour told NME.com.

The rumor gained steam after a Tuesday (1/3) report in the London Evening Standard said that Pink Floyd would be joined by Paul McCartney during the event's opening ceremony.

Pink Floyd hasn't performed an official show since the band's 2005 appearance at the Live 8 benefit.
Something akin to a brief reunion took place during a May 2011 show at Roger Waters' "The Wall" show at London's O2 Arena, when Gilmour joined Waters on "Comfortably Numb" and drummer Nick Mason joined them onstage playing tambourine on set-closer "Outside the Wall," with Gilmour on tambourine.

Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright died of cancer in 2008, and founding member Syd Barrett, who exited the group before it saw widespread success amid reports of mental illness and drug abuse, died in 2006.
