Ralph Fiennes is remaining tight-lipped about his role in the upcoming James Bond film 'Skyfall' but he could be replacing Dame Judi Dench as M.

As Dench is set to make her last appearance as the MI6 chief in the new flim, which stars Daniel Craig as 007, it looks as though Fiennes could take her place.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Fiennes gushed about his obsession with the Ian Fleming books.

"I used to be a complete nerd about the books and the detail in them. They are fantastic. There was Fleming's obsession with different kinds of champagne and caviar. He kind of fetishes these things," he said.

About his upcoming role in 'Skyfall', Fiennes remained coy but said: "I'm allowed to say that I'm a government agent."

According to a source from EON Production, which is making the movie with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, told MovieWeb that the veteran British actress would be making her last appearance.

"Ralph Fiennes play's a government agent, which we never get a name on, because he is set to play the new M," they said. "'Skyfall' centres around M (Judi Dench) where her past forces her to leave as head of MI6, and find a new M. The board of MI6 then turns to a government agent (Ralph Fiennes) to take over. M (Dame Judi) is now forced to train the new head of MI6."

It was thought that Fiennes had been lined up to play Bond's old enemy Blofeld but this was denied by the actor.

'Skyfall' is due out on October 26 2012.
