Ralph Fiennes Has ‘No Information’ On New James Bond Film

Daniel Craig in 'Skyfall' looks to return to the 'irony' of early Bond films

THE GLOBAL DISPATCH
By Brandon Jones
December 30, 2013

Bond 24 is moving forward with few to no details. Even star Ralph Fiennes has no idea what his character M will be doing or dates for production to begin.

He told the New York Daily News: “I know nothing, I’ve not been told anything.”

Ignorance is bliss, but will aggravate fans.

“I have no information, no dates, no sense of the journey of my character at all! I don’t!”

Fiennes starred as Gareth Mallory in Skyfall and was promoted to M, replacing Judi Dench when she was killed in the film.

The actor has said previously it wasn’t a secret that he would be taking over the part, leading to a larger role in Bond 24.

Tom Hardy To Make a Billion Panties Drop as James Bond

HECKLER SPRAY
By Jess Goodwin - September 18, 2013

tom hardy could be next bond

Though Daniel Craig is still alive and well and will continue his double life as 007 in the next two James Bond movies, rumors have been going around this week that Tom Hardy will take over once Craig steps down from the martini throne.

“Tom is right at the top of the wish list. He’s been approached to gauge his interest and he’s keen,” an anonymous source reported. If it’s true, great! I love Tom Hardy. He’s a talented actor with very nice lips. I’m sure he’d do a bang-up job, and I can totally see him doing the whole “Bond… James Bond” thing in his Bane voice. (Do they actually still say that? I’ve only ever seen Skyfall…)The source added:

”He is a respected actor with a great catalogue of films but most importantly he’s the type of guy that all men want to be like and all women want to be with. He’s perfect Bond material.”

Rupert Grint and Brendan Coyle Collaborate On Stage in West End Production

By Leah Rozen | Posted on July 29th, 2013

The worlds of Harry Potter and Downton Abbey will collide this fall when Rupert Grint and Brendan Coyle appear together on the West End stage in a London revival of Mojo, a crime drama about petty crooks and gangsters.

If you’re thinking about booking tickets and hopping a plane across the Atlantic, the just announced production will begin performances at the Harold Pinter Theater on Oct. 26.

Grint, 24, who played Ron Weasley in eight Harry Potter films, will be making his stage debut. Coyle, who portrays valet John Bates on Downton, is a veteran of the London stage.

Mojo, written by Jez Butterworth, was first staged at the Royal Court Theater in London in 1995. This new revival will costar Ben Whishaw (BBC America’s The Hour and Skyfall) and Daniel Mays (Made in Dagenham). Ian Rickson, who directed the original production, will again be directing.

It was Rickson’s idea to cast Grint. “I’d seen the Potter films with my daughter and always thought Rupert was truthful as Ron Weasley,” Rickson told entertainment columnist Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail. “There’s something ordinary and centered about him, and in this world of Mojo you want that grittiness.”

The Hollow Crown

FIRSTSHOWING.NET
by Ethan Anderton
August 8, 2013

Since the offerings on various VOD outlets like iTunes are becoming much more engaging, we thought this truly epic miniseries from BBC deserved the attention of cinephiles. The network across the pond has put together a four-part series called The Hollow Crown, an adaptation of four of Shakespeare's classic plays Richard II, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and Henry V. What's even better is these adaptations feature Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Thor), Jeremy Irons (Die Hard with a Vengeance), Patrick Stewart (X-Men) and Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Cloud Atlas). This looks like a gorgeous drama series.

Rupert Grint, Brendan Coyle, Ben Whishaw and Daniel Mays star in Mojo revival

Ian Rickson's all-star production at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 26 October

By Theo Bosanquet • 25 Jul 2013 • London
WHAT'S ON STAGE

As previously rumoured, Harry Potter star Rupert Grint will make his stage debut in a revival of Jez Butterworth's play Mojo later this year.

According to the Daily Mail, Grint will star alongside Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey), Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Hamlet) and Daniel Mays (Trelawny of the Wells, Mrs Biggs) in the production.

Brendan Coyle will return to the stage after a gap due to his Downton Abbey commitments. An accomplished stage actor, he won an Olivier Award in 1999 for Conor McPherson's The Weir (the Donmar's recent revival of which is transferring  to the West End in January).

Ben Whishaw rose to prominence after starring in Trevor Nunn's acclaimed Old Vic production of Hamlet directly out of drama school. He has since appeared on stage in Mike Bartlett's Cock at the Royal Court and, most recently, Peter and Alice opposite Judi Dench in the West End.

Dame Judi Dench takes pals to meet the wildlife lover she could wed (TELEGRAPH) By Richard Eden7:22AM BST 30 Jun 2013

Dame Judi Dench takes pals to meet the wildlife lover she could wed

Dame Judi Dench's 30-year marriage to Michael Williams was just as successful in real life as it was on screen in the hit Eighties sitcom A Fine Romance. Friends of the 78-year-old actress say she may now be ready for a second wedding.

Dame Judi has been courting David Mills, 70, a conservationist, for three years. This week, she is to take her fellow stars of the recent West End play Peter and Alice on a visit to the British Wildlife Centre, which Mills runs.

“I am going to go with the rest of the Peter and Alice cast,” Ben Whishaw tells Mandrake at the Evian Suite at Wimbledon.

“Her partner has a wildlife sanctuary in Surrey, so we are going to visit her there. All of us. It’s not far from where she lives on the Surrey / Sussex border.”

Williams died of lung cancer in 2001 at the age of 65.

Last year, Dame Judi spoke about the macular degeneration that she suffered, for which she has been treated with injections into the eye.

“It was amazing how she carried on stage with her eye problem,” says Whishaw, 32, who played Q to Dench’s M in the James Bond film Skyfall. “ You would never know that she had it, and she never talked about it. “She is such a trouper and professional.”

Accepting her latest honour, Dench told students and university staff, "When I formally opened the Iris Murdoch Building over a decade ago, I was delighted to see a public building which could provide an exemplar for dementia-friendly design. Why Judi Dench told me she lusted after lobsters more than sex By PETER LEWIS (MAIL ON LINE)

Judi Dench on stage as Ophelia in Hamlet at the Old Vic in September 1957
Judi Dench on stage as Ophelia in Hamlet at the Old Vic in September 1957

When I first met Judi Dench, she was 26, small, chubbily attractive and as nervous as an electric eel.

She was playing Anya in The Cherry Orchard under the awesome director and Chekhov expert, Michel Saint-Denis. ‘I am absolutely terrified,’ she told me. ‘I don’t think he likes me or my work.’

Nowadays, with an Oscar, a damehood and so many hits under her belt, it’s odd to remember that Judi had a bumpy take-off. It was fraught with obstacles — such as her diminutive height, barely 5ft 2in.

She could disguise it amazingly. ‘You looked 6ft on your entrance last night,’ I once remarked, quite sincerely.

‘Go on! Go on! This is music!’ she cried.

There was also a problem with weight. It was so easy for her to put on and at our lunches she rarely did more than toy with lettuce leaves. Yet she loves food.

‘Tell me what you had for lunch,’ she implored one day when I visited her at a health farm in Hampshire.

‘I want to hear every detail. Did you have lobster? Why not? We dream of lobster here. We talk of nothing but the food we long for — much more than sex!’

Her features are too strong to be pretty, though they are marvellously adaptable. She left her first and only screen test with no expectation of a film career.

‘This American said: “Miss Dench, you have every single thing wrong with your face,” ’ she told me.

It was in her first summer at Stratford that her talent came blazing out as Titania, a dazzling firework of a Fairy Queen with streaming wild hair and unrestrained libido.

When her career took off, that of her actor husband Michael Williams, whom she married at the age of 36, was inevitably overshadowed.

One day in a pub at Wasp Green, Surrey, where she’d bought a 17th-century house and small estate, I raised this delicate subject with them. Had her success made their relationship difficult to maintain?

Michael answered by expressing his admiration for acting that was, he said, well out of his league.

From the corner of my eye, I noticed Judi ferociously ironing out the silver paper wrappings that had held our after-lunch mints with the back of a spoon.

She said nothing. But it was clear that she found the disparity in their fame more awkward than he did.

Rory Kinnear approached by BBC to play new Doctor Who LIKE THIS ARTICLE4By Mathew Wace Peck (DIGITAL JOURNAL)

Rory Kinnear has been offered the coveted part of the Twelfth Doctor in the BBC's 50-year-old science-fiction drama series, it has been claimed.

early last week Radio Times claimed that an announcement concerning the casting of the new Doctor would be made soon. Then, on Friday, the BBC tried to quash rumours that they'd already chosen their man or woman.

However, the Sunday Telegraph claims today that "the role of the 12th Time Lord has been offered to Rory Kinnear". "He has been offered the part and [the BBC] are waiting to hear if he will accept," Mandrake asserts in the British broadsheet newspaper.

Kinnear is well known for his recurring role in the recent Daniel Craig James Bond movies, playing an MI6 officer, Bill Tanner. He first appeared as Tanner in Craig's second 007, Quantum of Solace, and returned in Skyfall.

Only last month, and before the BBC announced that Smith was to leave Doctor Who, Kinnear himself denied that he was being lined up to play the Doctor, saying he'd never even watched the show, and that, “I think I’m being used as a decoy on that front ... It’s the first I’ve heard!”

During the tribute, BAFTA chairman John Willis noted the monarch’s work onscreen for last summer’s Olympic Opening Ceremony, calling her “the most memorable Bond girl yet.” Branagh, meanwhile, encouraged the Queen to pursue her burgeoning acting career and jokingly offered to contact her agent, Daniel Craig, about future casting opportunities.

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz in "Betrayal" (EYEWITNESS NEWS)

NEW YORK - Daniel Craig and his actress wife, Rachel Weisz, are teaming up on stage this year to play a married couple in a Broadway revival of Harold Pinter's play "Betrayal" about adultery.

Craig, who has played British spy 007 in the last three James Bond films including the box office hit "Skyfall", last appeared on Broadway in 2009 alongside Hugh Jackman in "A Steady Rain”.

The Mike Nichols-directed production will be the Broadway debut for Weisz, who won an Oscar for the 2005 film "The Constant Gardener" and praise for her stage performances in "Suddenly, Last Summer" and "A Streetcar Named Desire" in London.

Judi Dench: Peter and Alice, Noel Coward Theatre, review (TELEGRAPH)

Peter and Alice, starring Skyfall's Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw, is a moving theatrical chamber piece which couldn't be further removed from the Bond blockbuster, says Charles Spencer.

By Charles Spencer7:00AM GMT 26 Mar 2013

If you had to imagine a work that was the complete antithesis of the brilliant Bond blockbuster, Skyfall, it might resemble Peter and Alice, a moving, 90-minute theatrical chamber piece about childhood, growing up and the pressure of literary immortality.

Yet it has been written by John Logan, one of the scriptwriters on Skyfall, and stars Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw who play M and Q in 007’s latest adventure.

They both give beautiful, heart-catching performances in this haunting play that sounds profound notes of loss and grief.

The piece was inspired by a small footnote in literary history. In 1932, Alice Liddell Hargreaves, who was the model for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, met Peter Llewellyn Davies, one of five brothers into whose lives JM Barrie insinuated himself, and who inspired Peter Pan. Barrie wrote that he created the young boy who never grew up “by rubbing the five of you violently together, as savages with two sticks produce a flame” but it was Peter who bore the name of the character that was to haunt and trouble him throughout his unhappy life.

The play shows Peter and Alice meeting in the dusty backroom of a bookshop where Alice is to open an exhibition celebrating Carroll’s centenary. Peter is there because he is a publisher and hopes to get a book out of her. At first Alice, now 80, is haughty. “You’re presumptuous,” she tells Peter, and no actress is more capable of suggesting withering disdain in just two words than Dame Judi. But Peter perseveres and they talk about the way their lives have been marked and to different extents marred by the writers and the books that trapped them in immortal youth.

Martin Freeman wins Empire Award best actor for performance in The Hobbit (THE INDEPENDENT)

Martin Freeman was the epitome of modesty as he overcame star competition to win best actor at the Jameson Empire Film Awards tonight.

“It's possible that my performance was not the best if the year,” he said of his performance in The Hobbit. “but I'll take it.”

Similar modesty came when Dame Helen Mirren was named an Empire “legend”. “I feel more of a leg-over than a legend,” she quipped. “I have been more in my career.”

Jennifer Lawrence won best actress and Sam Mendes was named both best director and the “inspiration” awards, held in the Grosvenor House Hotel.

Dame Helen Mirren Hints At Sam Mendes Sexism At Empire Awards 25 March 2013 (CONTACT MUSIC)

Oscar-winning alumni disappointed at Skyfall director's lack of female influences

Dame Helen Mirren doesn’t indulge herself in any sort of beef too often, so when she does you tend to listen, as it’s normally based on some pretty solid foundations. So what, then, of her Empire Awards acceptance speech, where she lambasted Sam Mendes, suggesting slightly cryptically that he might be sexist?

According to The Guardian, Mirren’s issue with the Skyfall director after he’d listed an exclusively male set of influences upon picking up his best director award on stage, neglecting any female film makers. When it came to Mirren to pick her Legend award, she took to the stage and said in her acceptance speech "I don't want to unduly pick on Sam Mendes, but when he spoke about his inspirations earlier this evening, I'm afraid not a single one of the people he mentioned was a woman.” Receiving cheers from the audience. "Hopefully in five or 10 years, when Sam's successor is collecting their Inspiration award, the list will be slightly more balanced in terms of its sexual make-up. In the meantime, this one is for the girls."

The 2013 Awards Shortlist: Vote Now The final vote for your actors and films of the year! (EMPIRE)

Imagine your ideal awards ceremony. It wouldn't be four hours long. There would be no awkward/sexist/lame musical numbers. Winners would be allowed to take as long as they want, and thank whomever they want in their speeches, and would be positively encouraged to tell us shaggy dog stories about their experiences on set. And the whole thing would be irreverent, laidback, relaxed and very funny. In other words, The Jameson Empire Awards.

Yes, the show we're calling the antidote to Oscar fever is back — on Sunday March 24, to be precise. As ever, the majority of the categories will be decided by our readers, so we need YOUR votes for the best films and performances in the period running from January 27, 2012, to January 25, 2013.

It's a very open race, with box office behemoths Avengers Assemble, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey all in contention. Then there are the smaller yet no less deserving entries like The Raid, Beasts Of The Southern Wild, Sightseers, Argo, Looper and Django Unchained – as well as many, many more.

The individual categories will be hard-fought too. For example, fancy choosing between Looper, Prometheus, Avengers, The Hobbit and Dredd in Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy? Nope, us neither.

Best Male and Female Newcomers always throw up some interesting faces, including everyone from Beasts Of The Southern Wild’s Quevenzhane Wallis to Steve Oram for Sightseers, while Best Director will see a battle of the heavyweights with Christopher Nolan, Joss Whedon, Sam Mendes, Peter Jackson and Quentin Tarantino battling it out.

To vote, simply select your favourites in each category below — and don't forget, you'll be entered into a ballot to win a pair of tickets to the Jameson Empire Awards, where you could find yourself rubbing shoulders with this year’s nominees and special guests.
