Princess Diana movie is totally wrong about our romance says lover Dr Khan

Dr-Khan-says-Diana-film-is-based-on-Princess-friends-talking-of-relationship-they-knew-little-about

EXPRESS
By: Giles SheldrickPublished: Mon, August 26, 2013

THE lover Princess Diana called “Mr Wonderful” last night panned a Hollywood film about their romance, dismissing it as “completely wrong”.

World-renowned cardiologist Hasnat Khan said he had been left sickened after watching a trailer for the blockbuster movie which is out later this year.

Dr Khan was Diana’s lover for two years before their relationship broke down shortly before her death alongside Dodi Fayed in 1997.

The film - simply called Diana - claims to chart her burgeoning romance with the heart surgeon.

But angry Dr Khan, 54, said: “I don’t see this movie doing at all well.

“It is based on gossip and Diana’s friends talking about a relationship that they didn’t know much about, and some of my relatives who didn’t know much about it either. It is based on hypotheses and gossip.”

The intensely-private surgeon shed fascinating new light on their brief relationship, saying the pair had discussed moving to his native Pakistan together.

He was left cold after seeing a still image of actors Naomi Watts and Naveen Andrews at the Harefield Hospital in Middlesex, where Dr Khan and Diana they first met.

He said: “I could tell immediately those were never our mannerisms at all, with my hands folded behind the back and all that.

“You could just tell from that picture that it is all just presumed about how we would behave with each other, and they have got it completely wrong.

“There wasn’t any hierarchy in our relationship. She wasn’t a princess and I wasn’t a doctor.

“We were friends, and normal people stand like friends with each other.

“That one still picture told me a lot about how they will portray things in the film and I can see it is wrong.”

Single Dr Khan said the pair were so smitten with each other they talked about moving to Pakistan where he would set up a heart hospital and she would work with women’s charities.

Talking about the Princess’s early death he said: “There are a hundred could-have-beens.

“She could be living very happily and married and having more kids, with me or with someone else. It could have led in that direction.

“I try not to think about these things. I can’t change anything now.”

Every year, around the anniversary of his former lover’s death, Dr Khan retreats to Pakistan to escape reminders of the tragedy.

His relationship with Diana broke down just weeks before her death on August 31, 1997, with Dr Khan unable to commit to marriage and the intense media scrutiny leading the pair to call time.

Episode VII Rumor Says Ewan McGregor Will Play Obi-Wan Again

Latest Star Wars: Episode VII Rumor Says Ewan McGregor Will Play Obi-Wan Again image

CINEMA BLEND

Author: Katey Rich | published: 2013-08-16 12:24:46

If you want to start your own Star Wars rumor, now is the time. With nothing officially confirmed about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII beyond the director and writer, there's a limitless universe full of story options, and any rumor can be treated as fact because, hey, who knows what might happen. And fresh off some specious talk that Emperor Palpatine might appear in Episode VII comes a new rumor of a familiar face who might bring back The Force.

So what hard proof do we have? None. And it's been like that for every Star Wars rumor we've fielded since the project was announced last fall, from the Ryan Gosling casting news to talk of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill reprising their roles. It's all talk, as notoriously secretive director J.J. Abrams preps the project to shoot in England early next year and keeps the lid on his "mystery box" to the point that there were booing fans at Disney's D23 convention last weekend. Ewan McGregor's potential return isn't exactly the kind of news fans have been salivating for all these years… but hey, it would be a start. At this point if Abrams and company would even confirm a title it would be progress.

Naomi "kept character" for Diana

INDEPENDENT WOMAN
DUBLIN
03 AUGUST, 2013

King Kong actress Naomi Watts was so determined to portray Diana, Princess of Wales accurately that she stayed in character even off camera, her co-star has revealed.

Canadian star Cas Anvar plays Diana's boyfriend Dodi Fayed in the movie about the last two years of her life and he has revealed that making the film was an intense experience.

"I had heard about Naomi before, that she was part British and part Australian, and I was expecting a little bit of banter but she was so in character even when we weren't shooting.

"She was so poised and gracious and in control in the same way Diana was always in control. That was actually a very powerful energy as the other actor and it helped me interact with her."

‘Diana’ Trailer: Naomi Watts is the People’s Princess by Kofi Outlaw (SCREEN RANT)

Diana Trailer 2013 starring Naomi Watts Diana Trailer: Naomi Watts is the Peoples Princess

Watts already has been nominated for two Oscars, but is definitely angling for a third with her new film Diana, a biopic memoir about the last two years of Princess Diana’s life, following her divorce from Prince Charles.  Watch the teaser trailer for the film above; the movie comes by way of German director Oliver Hirschbiegel (The Experiment) and acclaimed UK playwright-turned-screenwriter, Stephen Jeffreys.

Much like The Iron Lady Teaser Trailer, this teaser for Diana is meant to succinctly introduce Watts in the role of an icon – and it’s a strong match, if this footage is anything to judge by. Of course, unlike that initial Iron Lady trailer, this teaser does not go so far as to show any scenes of Watts actually speaking, which is sure to be a rather large hinging point for the millions of Diana fans out there, who will be scrutinizing every frame of this film.

The 2013 Awards Shortlist: Vote Now The final vote for your actors and films of the year! (EMPIRE)

Imagine your ideal awards ceremony. It wouldn't be four hours long. There would be no awkward/sexist/lame musical numbers. Winners would be allowed to take as long as they want, and thank whomever they want in their speeches, and would be positively encouraged to tell us shaggy dog stories about their experiences on set. And the whole thing would be irreverent, laidback, relaxed and very funny. In other words, The Jameson Empire Awards.

Yes, the show we're calling the antidote to Oscar fever is back — on Sunday March 24, to be precise. As ever, the majority of the categories will be decided by our readers, so we need YOUR votes for the best films and performances in the period running from January 27, 2012, to January 25, 2013.

It's a very open race, with box office behemoths Avengers Assemble, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey all in contention. Then there are the smaller yet no less deserving entries like The Raid, Beasts Of The Southern Wild, Sightseers, Argo, Looper and Django Unchained – as well as many, many more.

The individual categories will be hard-fought too. For example, fancy choosing between Looper, Prometheus, Avengers, The Hobbit and Dredd in Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy? Nope, us neither.

Best Male and Female Newcomers always throw up some interesting faces, including everyone from Beasts Of The Southern Wild’s Quevenzhane Wallis to Steve Oram for Sightseers, while Best Director will see a battle of the heavyweights with Christopher Nolan, Joss Whedon, Sam Mendes, Peter Jackson and Quentin Tarantino battling it out.

To vote, simply select your favourites in each category below — and don't forget, you'll be entered into a ballot to win a pair of tickets to the Jameson Empire Awards, where you could find yourself rubbing shoulders with this year’s nominees and special guests.

The Impossible: Is Ewan McGregor Finally Getting The Praise He Deserves? (CONTACT MUSIC)

Ewan McGregor's stunning turn in Juan Antonio Bayona's The Impossible is being lauded by critics left, right and center, with some suggesting it may be the Scottish actor's finest turn since Trainspotting. Of course, the disaster-epic is a very different film from Danny Boyle's 1996 classic, and it's the first time McGregor has played a father or family man.

The movie tells the true story of a family's experience of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. It had its world premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, where it received critical acclaim. Following its full release, Empire magazine dubbed it a "rousing, superbly acted, no-holds-barred melodrama is a mighty feat of physical film making." Peter Bradshaw mused, "This film is not especially complex, and not subtle, but there is judgment and intelligence in the simple idea of survival being the most agonizing thing, and making survivor guilt the psychological aftershock of a shattering and irreparable blow."

Ewan McGregor Talks About “The Impossible” And Family POSTED DEC. 26, 2012, 6:00 AM BEVERLY COHN / EDITOR-AT-LARGE (SANTA MONICA MIRROR)

It is no accident that the perennial youthful and stunningly handsome Ewan McGregor is an international acting treasure who has racked up a list of impressive credits earning him the Number 9 spot on Channel 4’s Greatest Movie Stars of All Time.

His breakout role was in “Trainspotting” in which he played a heroin addict and since then starred in such films as the prequel trilogy of “Star Wars” playing Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, the love-struck poet in “Moulin Rouge,” the son in both “Big Fish” and “Beginners,” as well starring roles in “Black Hawk Down,” “Cassandra’s Dream,” “Emma,” “Ghost Writer,” and “Angels & Demons.” Theatre trained, McGregor also received accolades for his stage performances in “Guys and Dolls,” and “Othello.”

His latest film, “The Impossible,” is the heart-wrenching story of a family’s struggle for survival in the wake of the horrifying tsunami that hit Thailand the morning after Christmas in 2004. One of the worst natural disasters in history, it tells the story of determination and bravery under unimaginable conditions. McGregor plays Henry, the father and co-stars with Naomi Watts as his wife, Maria, and three wonderful young actors who play their sons – Tom Holland (Lucas), Samuel Joslin (Thomas), and Oaklee Pendergast (Simon). The film is a monument to honoring the best that human beings can be in the face of unspeakable carnage.

McGregor recently sat down with a group of select journalists to discuss the film, along with personal revelations, and the following has been edited for content and continuity for print purposes.

What this family went through is beyond belief. Did you meet the father who you played as Henry?

Ewan: I met him when the family came out to Kolok (Thailand) where we were shooting, after about a month of filming. I did have telephone calls with him. They are a Spanish family, but we decided not to play them as a Spanish family, so I felt like I was concentrating playing the guy on the page. The character in the script is Henry and I used the things I learned from the real father about his experience, but also things I learned from other survivors. I met this amazing woman in London who was very gracious and told me her story. She lost her husband in the tsunami and she has three children and her story is very similar to my character’s in that she was with her two younger kids and her husband and eldest daughter were separated. She didn’t know where they were. So her experience and journey was very similar to his (Henry) in that she was looking for them. She would find somewhere safe to leave her kids and then she would search for her daughter and her husband.

Dame Maggie Smith, Brits Lead Field at the 2012 SAG Awards Posted on Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 (BBC AMERICA)

By Fraser McAlpine

Dame Maggie Smith in ‘Downton Abbey’

The nominations have just be announced for the Screen Actor’s Guild awards, 2012, and it is fair to say that the Brits have done a very nice job. So much so that only two awards are unblessed by British influence, and Dame Maggie Smith may well end the night on the phone to a carpenter, to build her a bigger sideboard.

Let’s go through the nominees, and point at the Brits in the list. The full list is here:

In the motion picture collection of awards, we’ve got Daniel Day-Lewis (nominated for Lincoln) battling it out with Bradley Cooper, Denzel Washington, John Hawke and Hugh Jackman for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. Meanwhile Dame Helen Mirren (Hitchcock) and Naomi Watts (The Impossible) are up against Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, and Jennifer Lawrence for the female equivalent.

Over on the supporting actor lists, Skyfall is represented by Javier Bardem (he only has to beat Alan Arkin, Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tommy Lee Jones, how hard can that be?) and Maggie Smith is up for her first award, for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a movie which is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, alongside Les Misérables (some good Brits in there), Lincoln (ditto), and Silver Linings Playbook (nope.).

Skyfall also gets a nod in the Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Team category, although its TV equivalent appears to have ignored any British shows, including Doctor Who, and (perhaps unkindest of all) the all-action Downton Abbey. It’s an outrage!

In the TV section, Clive Owen is nominated for the TV Movie Male Actor gong, for his portrayal of Ernest Hemingway in HBO’s Hemingway and Gellhorn. Charlotte Rampling takes up the British flag in the Female Actor section, after getting a nomination for her role in Restless.

OSCARS: Behind The Scenes On ‘The Impossible’ Ewan McGregor (DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD)

When the production team behind Summit’s The Impossible met with 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami survivor Maria Belon at a quiet coffee shop in Barcelona in the spring of 2008, they weren’t certain that she would agree to have her family’s harrowing story told in a feature film. Producer Belen Atienza knew they were in for an emotional afternoon—she was the one who first heard Belon’s story on the radio, a drama so profound that it left Atienza in tears after it concluded. But Atienza, director Juan Antonio Bayona, screenwriter Sergio Sanchez—who have a shorthand from working together on Bayona’s Spanish-language horror hit The Orphanage—gained Belon’s trust in a simple way: They listened.

“We were all really nervous,” Atienza recalls about the initial meeting. “She talked for three and a half hours. It was exhausting for her and for us. We didn’t open our mouths—we were just listening—and she was extremely thorough.”

The resulting film, an almost unbelievable tale of one family’s struggle to reunite amidst a country’s horror and loss, stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, whose performances started some Oscar buzz after the film’s premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September. The Impossible also has the benefit of being cofinanced and distributed by a studio familiar with nurturing films through awards season, Summit Entertainment, which was behind the Oscar-winning film The Hurt Locker in 2008. The Impossible doesn’t open in the United States until December 21, but it has already earned the distinction of having the biggest opening weekend in Spain’s boxoffice history, with $13.3 million on 638 screens.

'Movie 43' Trailer: Gerard Butler and a Plethora of Stars Get Raunchy (ADULT ONLY PLEASE!!!) 9:02 AM PDT 10/3/2012 by Jordan Zakarin (THR)

The omnibus sketchy comedy flick features Hollywood's A-List doing things that probably won't help any Oscar chances. It's a long tradition: dramatic movie stars heading to play against type on television. Jon Hamm does it frequently, including on 30 Rock; Kate Winslet and many others did it for Ricky Gervais' show Extras; and there have been 38 years worth of unexpected hosts of Saturday Night Live.

Hollywood, however, has never seen ego subversion on the scale promised by Movie 43.

Offensive language -  naked women - politically incorrect behavior - where did this movie come from? I never heard of it before.  Just plain wrong!  Can't wait.

Ewan McGregor wanted father role in The Impossible (CONTACT MUSIC)

Ewan McGregor took on his latest film role in 'The Impossible' because he got to play a father for the first time in his career.

Ewan McGregor took on his latest film role in 'The Impossible' because he got to play a father.

The 41-year-old actor - who has four children with his production designer wife Eve Mavrakis said fatherhood heavily influenced his decision to accept the part in the thriller because he's never played a dad before.

He said: ''I wanted very much to do this film because I'm a father, you know? I have four children now, and I've never really explored being a parent in a film before.

''It's odd because I've been a father for 15 years and yet I've never really played ... I can't think of one, I've never really played a dad or explored what it means to be a dad.''

Ewan - who is most known for his roles in 'Moulin Rouge' and 'Trainspotting' - plays father Henry in the film, and he thought his accent helped him bring the part to life.
