Ciarán Hinds on Playing Game of Thrones’ Mance Rayder By Jennifer Vineyard (VULTURE)

Ciarán Hinds was worried when he was cast as Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones that fans might revolt — at 60, "I'm probably a bit older than some people might have thought of" for the King Beyond the Wall, he says. But since there was no script for season three when he was offered the part and he hadn't read the books, he was unaware of just how large the role would be, until his goddaughter clued him in. Now that he's shot scenes in the first three episodes (plus a reaction shot in a later episode), Hinds is starting to get caught up on theGoT phenomenon, Jon Snow theories, and what's in store for the wildling army, which he chatted about with Vulture.

Were you a big Game of Thrones fan prior to coming aboard the show? Had you read the books? Were you aware of the phenomenon?
No to all of the above. Well, I was aware of it, because it's filming in my hometown, Belfast, so when I met with them, they asked, "Do you know this?" And I said, "Well, I know of it." So they gave me a pile of DVDs to watch. I'm halfway through series two.

There's been a lot of anticipation for Mance ...
And then it's only me! There you go. You go, "Oh! It's only him." I haven't had the chance to read the books — they're mighty books; they're big tomes — but I'm hoping to begin them this summer. Actually, when we were filming in Iceland, where I'd never been, it was like being in the Winter Olympics, just like a blizzard in late November, and it was rugged work. You shoot between nine and five, because of the light, and we'd have evenings clear because it was dark.

With 27 series regulars and hundreds of guest stars, day players, and extras wandering in and out of Westeros and points beyond, keeping track of who's who on "Game of Thrones" is almost as big a feat as planning the Battle of Blackwater Bay. That task isn't going to get any easier when Season 3, which was shot by three units across five countries and promises plenty of fresh faces, begins March 31 on HBO.

Arguably, the most major addition to the cast was Ciaran Hinds. One, his resumé is as respected as Tywin Lannister's and almost as long as the feared coming winter, with "Rome," "Harry Potter," "Political Animals," and "There Will Be Blood" among the highlights. Two, he is portraying Mance Rayder, the ex-Night's Watchman who united 90 clans into one Wildling army currently moving in on the Wall. Rose Leslie (Ygritte) admitted at the junket last week in Beverly Hills to being a tad starstruck as "we've been watching him from a young age. Phenomenal."

Kit Harington, whose Jon Snow is trying to infiltrate the camp and must get Rayder to trust him, was also in awe. "He's a wonderful, wonderful man, and for someone who hadn't read the books and hadn't even seen the show when he joined and did his first few scenes, he nailed the character. That's the mark of the man's genius and genius of the writing."

Directed by "The Hills Have Eyes" helmer Alexandre Aja, "Horns," based on the best-selling novel by Joe Hill, centers on a young man (Radcliffe) who is the prime suspect in the brutal killing of his girlfriend. One morning, he wakes up with a horrific hangover and a set of horns growing out of his head. He quickly leans that the horns have the ability to force people to confess their darkest sins. With this new power in tow, the newly-horned man sets off to put his skills to the test and find out who really killed his girlfriend.

"The script is so good, the story," Radcliffe told MTV News recently about why he was attracted to the film, which starts shooting this fall. "There's nothing really, I think, that can be so exciting to an actor as an original idea. It's an original idea that's tackled in an original, fresh and vibrant way."

"There are opportunities, especially at the beginning of the script, for some very dark humor," he continued. "It's a script that, as it goes on, becomes really very emotional. It has the potential to be very moving and kind of heartbreaking, really."

Will Daniel Radcliffe and Jon Hamm Team Up for a British TV Miniseries? by Adam Chitwood (COLLIDER)

A very exciting team-up of actors may be in the works. Though the watercooler British series Downton Abbey has moved from the Miniseries category to the Drama Series category for this year’s Emmys, none other than Harry Potter and Don Draper may be starring in a period British miniseries of their own. A report originated in The Sun that Daniel Radcliffe is circling a role in the four-part post-WWI miniseries that would see him playing the younger version of a character played by Jon Hamm.

The Sun isn’t the most accurate of sources, but Vulture reports that they’ve been hearing the same thing regarding the Hamm/Radcliffe casting so this might well be more than a fantasy rumor. The miniseries centers on Russian doctors and is said to include some dark humor. Both Radcliffe and Hamm are excellent actors and I would 100% be on board with this project should it turn out to be real. Hopefully we hear some confirmation on the casting soon.

The casting gods continue to smile on Allen Ginsberg.

Despite bearing only a tenuous physical resemblance to the legendary Beat poet, Daniel Radcliffe will play Ginsberg in the upcoming thriller "Kill Your Darlings."

Based on a series of set pictures that come via the Huffington Post, Radcliffe will spot a curly mop top and some spectacles in an attempt to bridge the appearance gap.

The film focuses on a murder trial involving Ginsberg and his fellow Beat Generation member, Lucien Carr. Carr was charged with second-degree murder in 1944 for stabbing his former English teacher to death.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has topped the UK box office, ending The Woman in Black's three-week reign in the number one spot. Judi Dench and Maggie Smith are among the all-star Brit cast for the comedy, which leaps above Daniel Radcliffe's supernatural thriller and into first place on its second weekend on release.

Marigold Hotel earns £2.3 million to chart ahead of Woman in Black's £1.88 million, while new release This Means War debuts at number three with £1.82 million. Safe House falls a place to number four, with The Muppets completing the top five.

Tom Hardy – Early Contender For Man of 2012 (WHAT CULTURE)

2012 is a big year for Britain, what with the Olympics looming large and failure at Euro 2012 almost a dead cert. It is also a big year for British cinema, and in particular their actors. With Daniel Radcliffe running around a house for an hour and a half in The Woman In Black, Jamie Bell putting in a decent effort in Man On A Ledge, and Ray Winstone’s stellar performances in the Bet 365 adverts, Britain is calling out for a new, brilliant actor. 

And that’s where Tom Hardy comes in. Granted, he’s been knocking around for a while now, but 2012 is a big year for him too. It wasn’t until 2008 when he really became noted in the mainstream for his acting thanks to his haunting, frightening and downright scary portrayal infamous prisoner of Charles Bronson in Bronson, but there were signs of his talent right from the outset. Even his bit-part appearances were memorable and noteworthy, such as Band Of Brothers, Black Hawk Down and his impressive villainous role Star Trek: Nemesis where he went toe-to-toe with Jean-Luc Picard and didn’t blink.

 For avid film watchers, the brooding, handsome Hardy was popping up all over the place without ever really stealing the show; until Bronson came along.

The Woman in Black has topped the UK box office for the third consecutive weekend.

Daniel Radcliffe's Hammer horror film holds off strong competition from new releases The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Safe House to secure the number one spot with £2.4 million in ticket sales.

Marigold Hotel, which features an all-star British cast that includes Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Tom Wilkinson, and action-thriller Safe House both notched up impressive debuts of more than £2 million but still trail behind the supernatural horror among UK cinemagoers.

“Woman In Black” Shatters Box Office Expectations

HollywoodNews.com: Hammer’s chilling ghost story The Woman in Black shattered box office expectations during its three day opening weekend (Fri-Sun) in the US, grossing just over $21m to come in a very close second place.

Hammer, an Exclusive Media company’s, adaptation of Susan Hill’s classic novel, starring Daniel Radcliffe, opened on almost 3000 screens through CBS Films with a per screen average of approximately $7,400, and also took the number one position in the Canadian box office.

This weekend’s three day gross makes The Woman in Black the highest opening ever for a Hammer film in the US and one of the very few British films that has broken the $20m opening weekend threshold.

The exceptionally strong US box office weekend was up over 35% on 2011 figures and is particularly striking because it was Super Bowl Sunday, a traditionally weaker box office weekend.
The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, is the iconic production company’s first ever feature ghost story. It is directed by James Watkins and adapted by Jane Goldman from the book by Susan Hill.

The film is a Hammer, Alliance Films, The UK Film Council presentation, in association with Cross Creek Pictures. A Talisman production in association with Exclusive Media. In a sense, our young lawyer is on probation. Having lost his wife in childbirth several years before, he has not been able to pull himself from a depression that is having a very deleterious effect on his work. The law firm is offering him one chance to redeem himself: go to the little village of Crythin Gifford it is and the now deserted home of an elderly woman who took her own life. Once there, he is to sort through what promises to be mounds of papers to put her affairs in order.

Kipps is reluctant to leave his young son, but is eager to make good and so he sets off on his journey. When he arrives, however, he finds the villagers not only unreceptive but downright rude and it is only with some difficulty that he is able to secure a room for a night at a village inn. On top of that, the local lawyer who is supposed to help him simply gives him a small packet that he claims is all the paperwork Kipps will need before sending him off by carriage to catch the next train.

But Kipps is determined to see the job through and bribes the carriage driver to take him instead to the old mansion. The place gives new meaning to the word isolated. The road that takes you there goes through a boggy marsh along the seashore. It is a road that disappears at certain times of the day and night with the coming of high tide. The mansion itself is a long disused, decaying place, its rooms cluttered with old furnishings, old toys and memories.

There is something unsettled here and before long, our young lawyer has caught glimpses of a severe looking woman, an apparent ghost the locals call "the woman in black." He soon learns the reason they did not want him to stay is that whenever someone sees her, dreadful things occur.

The movie is full of mystery, deep secrets and long moments of Radcliffe walking the hallways of the lonely, old house with a candle or lantern, knowing there is something waiting just around the next corner. Director James Watkins builds the suspense and then ratchets it up, notch by notch. If you're looking to be scared, you won't be disappointed.

Radcliffe is very good as Kipps, Ciaran Hinds a stand out as the one man in the village willing to lend a hand and Janet McTeer equally good as Hinds' mad wife, still despairing over the loss of their son. On a recent television appearance, Radcliffe said The Woman in Black is a perfect date movie because your date will be jumping into your arms. From personal experience I can tell you it works for married couples as well.

The desire to be frightened is a strange impulse that nonetheless has created careers for everyone from John Carpenter to the people who design roller coasters. It’s also proving a lucrative genre for Daniel Radcliffe, who — fresh from vanquishing a frightening foe in the Harry Potter series — stops shaving, looks grief-stricken, and puts on the cloak of a doting father in The Woman in Black, an old-fashioned ghost story.

It’s a good vehicle for Radcliffe, even though he’s never quite persuasive as a grown-up parent: He has a look of perpetual adolescence, like a more sorrowful Hugh Grant. Still, it’s his charisma that is likely to draw a younger audience to a Gothic haunted-house tale that has none of the trappings — torture, exploding bodies, imperilled teenagers — of the modern horror film.

In Radcliffe's mind, the present is already the past and he's anxious. He comes across as having a shark mentality – keep moving forward or drown.

"The next couple of years for me is going to be about finding people to work with who are going to push me because I've never trained," he says, maintaining intense eye-contact. "The only way I'm going to get better is by taking risks and working with people who I think are going to improve me. So that's what the next couple of years are going to be about. "

For now, the immediate future means focusing on his upcoming role as poet Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming Kill Your Darlings, which begins shooting in March.

And while he's "terrified but very excited" for that role, the young actor with more money than the royal couple has his eye on working with a fellow Brit: Russell Brand.

"I always thought he'd be fantastically entertaining and fun to work with," Radcliffe enthuses.

And what of his former Potter pals?

Radcliffe says that, of all this potential mentors from the shoot, he's remained closest with Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape in the series of films.

"Alan Rickman came and saw the show twice and took me out for dinner," he says before catching himself boasting and turning to humorous self-deprecation. "He [relayed] some pieces of advice but you know some things sound amazing in Alan Rickman's voice and if I said them to you they wouldn't have nearly the impact, but when he said them to me it seemed quite profound."

Daniel Radcliffe who’s currently starring in The Woman In Black, has revealed that he’d be willing to return to the magical movie franchise where he made his name. The British actor who’s most famous for playing the boy wizard in the Harry Potter franchise told reporters in the US he’d be happy to take up his wand again if the material was good enough.

"If it was good enough, I would be Harry Potter again. If it was anything short of good enough, I would say no," Radcliffe said. "I know I wouldn't be Harry again for nostalgic or dutiful reasons…But if I learned one thing in life, it's that it's foolish to cut yourself off from anything. My motto is to never say never."

Daniel Radcliffe's Girlfriend appears in Woman in Black

Daniel Radcliffe has revealed his girlfriend makes a cameo as The Woman In Black in his new film.

The Harry Potter actor stars as widowed lawyer Arthur Kipps in the scary new horror film and revealed girlfriend Rosanne Coker makes an appearance on screen with him.

Daniel said: "There is actually one shot in the film where Rosie had to play the woman in black because we didn't have a double for her that day so she is actually in one of the reveal shots in the film.

"She is going to kill me for telling you that."
