Kit Harington Reveals He Cried During a Read Through of Final Game of Thrones Episode

Kit Harington is no longer clueless.

The Game of Thrones actor revealed on BBC’s The One Show Friday that he bawled as he and his cast mates sat down for a read through of the final episode of the hit HBO show.

“We had a read through last week in fact, so I know everything now,” he said.

While the final episode won’t air until the series comes to an end with the eighth season in 2019, the actor said he couldn’t help but get emotional.

“I cried at the end,” he said. “You have to remember that eight years of it — no one really cares about it more than us.”

Before there was Spartacus or The Tudors, Vikings or The Borgias—before Game of Thrones—there was Rome. As the first salvo of a legion of period epics and historic fictions on premium cable, Rome was one of the most ambitious gambles ever ventured by HBO with a first season cost that was upwards of $100 million due to pricy sets (the biggest in the world), principal photography in Italy, and the usage of old fashioned 35mm cameras.

The series proudly attempted to tell a sort of an “Upstairs, Downstairs” drama between Rome’s patrician class and its plebian underbelly, making it something of a semi-prequel to I, Claudius as we witnessed the rise and fall of Gaius Julius Caesar (Ciaran Hinds), and then the many years of warfare between the various parties in the wake of his death—including a young Octavian (first Max Pirkis, then Simon Woods)—as well as Rome’s transition from republic to empire.

It was a grand effort… perhaps too much so. Indeed, the popular cult series only ran for two seasons, abruptly ending 10 years ago in 2007. While there was some second-guessing and regret after the ratings for Rome season 2 increased, the die was already cast and that season concluded the story with Octavian becoming Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome, and his quiet plebian right-hand, Titus Pullo (Ray Stevenson), taking on the responsibilities of raising a son since his best mate Lucius Vorenus (Kevin McKidd) lies presumably in the grave.

“Bruno [Heller] once did outline a story that he was going to start the whole series with,” Stevenson said. “An 88-year-old Pullo going down to the riverside by Vorenus’ tomb, or sarcophagus, pouring wine on it, taking a sword out while sitting there on the banks, looking at the glistening river, and committing suicide.

“And as he has his face hit the sand on the banks, a fish jumped out of the water, and the silver light on the fish caught the sword, which brought us right into that first battle with Lucius Vorenus and [Titus Pullo] where he breaks ranks.”

Cannes: Sean Bean to Star in Jason Bourque's Action-Thriller 'Drone'

 Sean Bean is set to pilot Jason Bourque's action-thriller film Drone.

Myriad Pictures will handle worldwide sales, excluding Canada, for the film that will co-star Patrick Sabongui (300, Godzilla).

Written by Bourque (Black Fly) and Paul Birkett, Drone is a ripped-from-the-headlines story about Neil (Bean), a high-level private drone contractor who spends his workdays flying covert missions then returns to a family life of suburban mediocrity, where not even Neil’s wife or his son know about his secret life. But Neil's juggling act of husband, father and armchair warrior comes to a crashing halt when a whistleblowing site exposes him to a deadly threat. Believing Neil is responsible for the deaths of his wife and child, an enigmatic Pakistani businessman (Sabongui) has tracked him down. A harrowing confrontation takes place in Neil's house, which proves to be far more complex than a simple act of revenge.

Myriad Pictures is introducing Drone to buyers this week in Cannes. Deals have already been closed with Signature Entertainment in the U.K., Minerva in Italy, Eagle Films in the Middle East and Dexin Films in the former Yugoslavia.

The film starts shooting this week in India and then moves to Vancouver.

It was the story of a working-class underdog in 1980s Bristol, but the star-studded cast of 2006 film Starter for 10 have become huge global stars in their own right.

The film followed student Brian Jackson (James McAvoy) as he embarked on his first year at Bristol University, battling cliched opposition from peers as he attempted to get on the popular TV show, University Challenge.

So, let's see which familiar faces got their Starter for 10 correct with the film:

James McAvoy

Now known for his role as a young Professor Charles Xavier in the X Men series, Scottish actor McAvoy was already familiar to fans of Paul Abbott's television show, Shameless, in which he co-starred with his now-wife, Anne-Marie Duff.

He's also impressed in movies such as The Last King of Scotland, Atonement and the adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel Filth.

Benedict Cumberbatch

He's our Sherlock Holmes here in Wales thanks to Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' re-imagining of Arthur Conan Doyle's character for the BBC hit, but back in 2006 (or 1985) Cumbers was the snotty nosed team-mate of McAvoy's Brian.

Since 2010 he's been filming Sherlock in and around Wales, but he's also gained notoriety from Hollywood thanks to roles in The Imitation Game, Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, 12 Years a Slave and as the voice of dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

 Mark Gattiss

Any fan of comedy would recognise Gatiss as one of the League of Gentlemen, but it wasn't until Sherlock he became a household name.

In the 1980s movie he portrayed University Challenge host Bamber Gascoigne who puts the main characters to the test on national TV.

In Sherlock (which he co-created) Gatiss also plays the titular character's brother, Mycroft.

Gatiss also has a small recurring role in Game of Thrones.

Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark)

After Catelyn’s untimely demise during the Red Wedding, Fairley picked up two series, almost back-to-back: “24: Live Another Day,” where she played assassin Margot Al-Harazi, and “Resurrection,” where she played Margaret Langston, a spooky woman who returned from the dead in a town where such rebounds have become commonplace. Next up for the Irish actress: a role in Ron Howard’s “Moby Dick” drama “In the Heart of the Sea.”

Sean Bean (Ned Stark)

Bean was one of the first Starks to go to the other side, but he has not been forgotten, neither on the series nor in real life. He is currently starring on the TNT series “Legends” as Martin Odum, an FBI agent who is something of a shape-shifter. He is also filming a movie, “Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt,” based on the Anne Rice (“Interview With the Vampire”) novel about the early life of Jesus Christ.

‘Game of Thrones’ Alumnus Sean Bean to Lead ‘Frankenstein Chronicles’

 Actor Sean Bean, whose credits include “Game of Thrones” and “Lord of the Rings,” will star in “The Frankenstein Chronicles,” a re-imagining of Mary Shelley’s monster tale as a six-part period crime drama.

Executive producers are Rainmark Films’ Tracey Scoffield and Frank Doelger, whose credits include “Game of Thrones,” “Rome” and “John Adams.”

The series has been created by director and writer Benjamin Ross, who was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for “RKO 281,” and writer Barry Langford (“Torte Bluma”). Ross will direct the series.

Rainmark is producing for U.K. broadcaster ITV. Endemol Worldwide Distribution will be responsible for international sales outside U.K./Ireland.

The series is set in London in 1827 with Bean playing Inspector John Marlott. It opens with the discovery of the corpse of a child that turns out to be a crude assembly of body parts. Marlott accepts the challenge to track the perpetrator of this crime.

“Marlott’s investigation takes him into the dark corners of Regency London,” Ross said. “He discovers an underworld of prostitution, drug smuggling, bodysnatching, and murder for profit. The rational evidence points first one-way and then another as he contemplates a frightening alternate scenario.”

ITV’s director of drama, Steve November, and controller of drama, Victoria Fea, have commissioned the series for ITV Encore.

The series will be produced by David Tanner for Rainmark and Carol Moorhead.

Filming will begin in Northern Ireland, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen, in January 2015, and further casting will be announced in due course.

Fifth bride lucky for ladies man Sean Bean?

To be fair to Sean Bean, he didn’t quite use the words “Never again”.

But he came pretty close, speaking not long after his last divorce three years ago, when he told a magazine interviewer: “Of course I believe in love.

"There is nobody who doesn’t believe in love.

"But marriage – that fits some people but obviously not me.”

Instead of worrying about his love life, he added, he would rather spend his time gardening.

But this weekend it’s a fair bet the autumn leaves are piling up unswept at his Italian-style house in a cobbled mews in North London’s exclusive Belsize Park.

That’s because he has marriage on his mind once more.

The 55-year-old actor, whose profile has soared with his roles in the blockbusting film trilogy The Lord of the Rings and the small-screen fantasy series Game of Thrones, has just popped the question to his 29-year-old girlfriend Ashley Moore and she has agreed to become the fifth Mrs Bean.

While that doesn’t quite put her four-times-divorced fiancé in the same league as serial knot-tiers Elizabeth Taylor and Zsa-Zsa Gabor, he’s getting pretty close to the tally of Henry VIII (by whom, incidentally, his character was once executed in a 2003 mini-series).

Born in Sheffield, where his father owned a steel firm, Shaun (as his name was spelled in those days) was 21 when he married his school sweetheart, hairdresser Debra James, in 1981.

On paper they lasted seven years but in reality the marriage was over as soon as it started.



Having taken a drama class at Rotherham College of Art & Technology, he moved to London to take up a place at Rada shortly after they wed.

They visited each other at weekends but it fizzled very soon.

“I’m very happy for him now,” Debra has said.

“I’m delighted he found something he really wanted to do and has made a real success of it.

"We were just two kids who fell in love.

"But it never worked out.”

The human movie spoiler returns. Sean Bean, next to be seen on the big screen in The Wachowskis' delayed Jupiter Ascending, has landed a role in Ridley Scott's upcoming adaptation of Andy Weir's book, The Martian.

Bean joins a cast that includes Matt Damon, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Kristen Wiig, and Jessica Chastain. And he'll be taking on the role of NASA's flight director in the movie. Having read the book over the past week, unless there's a significant detour taking with the screenplay, this role is going to offer something radically different for Bean: survival chances.

Sean Bean: (spoilers) LEGENDS: "CHEMISTRY" REVIEW

While still maintaining a fair amount of rough, rudimentary elements ("No more of that cowboy s***!" Larter's Agent McGuire scolds), "Chemistry" improved upon the pilot episode by not only keeping Sean Bean's Martin Odum mostly out of the undercover game, but also by focusing more intently on the larger conspiracy arc started last week with the murders of Bobby and the homeless man.

In fact, a whole new character - in Morris Chestnut's Agent Rice - was introduced to the series specifically to deal with the conspiracy side of the story. He's not even a part of Odum's usual team and exists, now, just to follow up on Odum's initial side investigation. Which, at this point, only serves to make Odum suspicious in Rice's eyes.

Also, by having the "case of the week" get drawn out over (who looks like) two episodes, it helps blend the show together into a much more serialized affair. And it also helped make Odum's undercover work seem more vital and important. Because hearing that he's the best undercover agent over and over gets tiring very quickly. And so "Chemistry" worked to show us just how important the decision is for Odum to go back into the field, calling upon one of his established identities, so quickly after the "Founding Father" events of the premiere. The show is making sure that the psychological dangers are evident and ever-pressing.

7 Questions With … Sean Bean of TNT’s Legends

I had a phone number and I was afraid to dial it. That’s how I felt before I interviewed Sean Bean. He’s well known for playing tough and intimidating characters like Ned Stark in Game of Thrones and Boromir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and even as the bad guys in Patriot Games and GoldenEye, he’s as much known for his intensity as he is for his often spectacular death scenes. So when it came time to call him on the phone to talk about his new TNT series, Legends, I’ll admit I was a wee bit nervous. And excited.

When Sean answered his phone, instead of a growl, his greeting of “Hello Kellie,” was more like a purr. I was instantly smitten. There is something about his voice that is both powerful and terrifying and utterly, utterly sexy. And charming. I was amazed by how funny he is and how often Sean laughed during our interview. I’d like to think that it’s because I’m that delightful, but I suspect it’s because Sean isn’t as scary as he appears on screen. That’s probably why he’s a terrific actor, and if you think about the words I’ve used to describe him: tough, intimidating, intense, powerful, funny, sexy, you’ll know why he’s perfectly suited to play multiple characters in TNT’s thriller, Legends. Bean can play a variety of diverse characters because he’s a multi-faceted person.

I have seen the series’ first two episode and they’re even more riveting than the show’s trailers. I can’t wait for more episodes. The entire cast is fantastic, but Sean Bean is mesmerizing and it’s going to be a delicious and torturous treat to wait a week between episodes, as I’ve gotten a bit spoiled by binge TV watching. Sean hadn’t yet watched any of Legends’ completed episodes so he peppered me with questions about what made the final cut and what hadn’t.

Then I asked Sean our 7 Questions and found his answers the exact opposite of what I expected. Perhaps you’ll agree that you may know Sean Bean the actor, but you hardly know Sean Bean the man.

1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?

I don’t read many magazines. I read Gardeners’ World Magazine. It’s a British magazine. It sounds rather mundane, but it’s my favorite. (Laughs) Oh God, there’s plenty. I suppose, Sheffield United — they’re my football team, I love their weekly magazine. I also read The Guardian.

2. If your TV carried just three shows or networks, what would they be?
I like Discovery and National Geographic. I love Pawn Stars, I’ve been watching a lot of television and I like Mountain Men on The History Channel. They’ve got a guy called Tom, an old guy, who’s a lovely chap.

3. What are three things that you have to have in your fridge or pantry?
Milk, eggs — that sounds a bit boring, doesn’t it? — And blueberries.

Save Sean Bean goes viral…

Sean Bean has appeared in blockbuster films and TV shows as well as small independent movies, but he rarely comes out of them unscathed. Having been run off a cliff by rampaging cows, shot in the neck with a grappling hook, beheaded and quartered by horses in his 31-year acting career, the Sheffield-born actor hasn’t had much luck cheating death.

 Bean himself has acknowledged his fictional mortality, saying: “I’ve died a lot of different deaths. Maybe it’s the quality of my death people are fascinated by. I liked Lord of the Rings. Big death.”

Now, after a tongue-in-cheek plea by fans, the producers of Bean’s latest TV series, titled Legends, have launched #DontKillSeanBean on social media in order to try to keep Bean alive in his new show. The campaign has already gone viral after launching over the weekend, with T-shirts supporting the hashtag appearing at San Diego Comic-Con.

Tricia Melton, a marketing executive at TNT, the cable channel set to air the show, said: “Sean laughed out loud when we first talked to him about it and is 100 per cent behind not getting killed in Legends. He’s got a great sense of humour and is enjoying the fun the fans are having.”

For Queen Elizabeth II, one throne is enough.

The United Kingdom's 88-year-old monarch toured the Belfast sets of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones" and met many of its stars Tuesday beside the show's sword-covered seat of power, the Iron Throne.

Unlike many visitors to Belfast's Titanic Studios, the monarch declined to take a seat on the throne created for the ruler of the mythical Seven Kingdoms. But she did take a look at many of the set props during her visit.

"Game of Thrones" creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss escorted the monarch through the show's custom-made armory, hangars of costumes, and sprawling sets used to shoot the program's interior scenes and perilous ice-cliff ascents -- part of the biggest TV production ever mounted in Europe.

The cast and crew of axed BBC drama Ripper Street were today filming the show's third series after the Victorian costume drama was saved by online giant Amazon.

The show, set in London's Whitechapel in 1889 - six months after the gruesome Jack The Ripper Murders, was axed by the BBC at the end of last year due to poor viewing figures.

There were also some issues with sound -  with dozens of viewers complaining to the BBC about  'meaningless mumbling' throughout the second series.

And, if today's pictures are anything to go by, filming for the latest series - which will see the return of crime-fighting duo Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn - appears to be going swimmingly.

Jerome Flynn - or Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake as he is known in the show - could be seen milling about on locations in full costume, chatting to numerous members of cast and crew.

Following the announcement in February, BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson said the deal was 'an exceptional opportunity' to bring the show back - while freeing up BBC money for new drama series.

Tiger Aspect’s Head of Drama, Will Gould added: 'In the past year we’ve transmitted two series of Ripper Street in the UK, had highs of eight million viewers, sold the show to over 150 countries, got Bafta nominated and voted Radio Times best show of the year, were cancelled and resurrected.

Tonight’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Is Its Most Expensive Episode, Ever

We’re already way excited for tonight’s brand new episode of “Game of Thrones” — The Watchers on The Wall. But when you take into consideration the fact that this is the series’ most expensive hour to date? Well, now we can barely sit still.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Jon Snow’s real-life counterpart Kit Harington, explained the episode is “as big as Thrones has gone at the moment. I mean, I think it’s no secret that it’s the most expensive episode that they’ve ever made and a lot of that is due to the CGI.” (Though to be fair, Jon Snow knows nothing, so take that with a grain of salt.)

The series’ showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, confirmed as such going over the details of the episode with Entertainment Weekly, even noting that episode touts both “the biggest green screen in Europe” and “the biggest Styrofoam piece in existence.”

“It’s a very intense episode, more intense than ‘Blackwater,’” said Benioff.

Weiss added: “With ‘Blackwater’ when we got the episode in, so much of it was visual effects dependent we were kind of unsure — the performances were fantastic and the action was great, but we weren’t entirely sure what we had until the pieces were put together. But with this, … just something about it really grabbed us by the neck [and] that’s very rare even with the great directors we’re fortunate to work with.”

The grand scale of the episode is likely what caused it to have such a mega-budget, thanks to production designer Deborah Riley, who, according to Benioff “did this magnificent top-of-The Wall set, far bigger than what we had before, so you can do walk-and-talks, you can have massive action sequences. It’s completely surrounded by green screen.”

And luckily for action-seeking fans, we've got the whole scoop and nothing but the scoop of what viewers can expect before the show makes it’s nail-biting debut on Wednesday, August 13 at 9/8c – straight from the Executive Producer’s mouth!

During the third season of the ATX Festival, held in Austin, Texas, Brad Turner explained that the summer series (based on Robert Littell’s book “Legends: A Novel of Dissimulation”) will radiate a “24”-esque vibe throughout the series. That’s probably because the “Legends” EP was one of the directors responsible for the shenanigans Jack Bauer found himself in during the serialized drama.  So, if you love clock-ticking, heart-stopping drama, then “Legends” is the show for you!

What can viewers expect to go down during the premiere of “Legends”? Well, the episode will open up with a nail-biting scene that will surround everyone’s favorite “Game of Thrones” character Ned Stark. Yep, that’s right! Sean Bean will be starring in the upcoming drama as Martin Odum. And according to Turner, the former “GoT” actor will be keeping his head. Phew! That’s a relief.

“He was excited to play a role he didn’t have to die in,” the EP quipped. But just because Bean’s noggin is safe – for now – doesn’t mean he won’t be close to losing it throughout “Legends.” Bean’s character will encounter his fair share of life or death drama as the series unfolds.

Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, Adam Rothenberg:Ripper returns to shoot gory scenes around city

Here’s an unexpected sight - filming for series three of Ripper Street on the streets of Dublin this morning.

And this morning it was business as usual for the often-gruesome show as the cast and crew descended on the Custom House in Dublin’s north inner city.

In one scene, actress MyAnna Buring, who plays brothel madam Long Susan, is seen exiting the building showing blood-stained hands.

Also making a welcome return to the new series is Monaghan native Charlene McKenna, who plays former prostitute Rose.

Actors Matthew Macfadyen (Det. Insp. Edmund Reid) and Adam Rothenberg (Cpt. Homer Jackson) filming new series of drama Ripper Street at Manchester Town Hall Annex.

HEARTTHROB Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn have been using some of Loughborough’s most historic buildings to film scenes for a new series of Ripper Street.

The two actors alongside Adam Rothenberg used the backdrops and scenery of Taylor’s Bell Foundry, in Freehold Street.

There was also filming at Great Central Railway’s Quorn and Rothley station, with the historic railway giving the crew access to some of the station’s train stock.

Ripper Street is a gritty period drama from the BBC set in Whitechapel in London’s East End in 1889, six months after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.

The first episode was broadcast on December 30, 2012 during BBC One’s Christmas schedule. It was reported that series two would be the last, but it looks like the crew are back for filming of a series three.

Before arriving in Loughborough, the three actors had been filming in Manchester.

Matthew Macfadyen is well-known for playing Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice alongside Keira Knightley as well as films that include John Birt in Frost/Nixon and Athos in The Three Musketeers

Alongside him was Jerome Flynn, one half of 1990s singing duo Robson and Jerome and currently starring as Bronn in the fourth series of Game of Thrones.

Adam Rothenberg is known for starring in Mad Money with Diane Keaton and The Immigrant.
