Cannes: Sean Bean to Star in Jason Bourque's Action-Thriller 'Drone'

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
2:25 AM PDT 5/16/2016 by Tatiana Siegel

Sean Bean is set to pilot Jason Bourque's action-thriller film Drone.

Myriad Pictures will handle worldwide sales, excluding Canada, for the film that will co-star Patrick Sabongui (300, Godzilla).

Written by Bourque (Black Fly) and Paul Birkett, Drone is a ripped-from-the-headlines story about Neil (Bean), a high-level private drone contractor who spends his workdays flying covert missions then returns to a family life of suburban mediocrity, where not even Neil’s wife or his son know about his secret life. But Neil's juggling act of husband, father and armchair warrior comes to a crashing halt when a whistleblowing site exposes him to a deadly threat. Believing Neil is responsible for the deaths of his wife and child, an enigmatic Pakistani businessman (Sabongui) has tracked him down. A harrowing confrontation takes place in Neil's house, which proves to be far more complex than a simple act of revenge.

Myriad Pictures is introducing Drone to buyers this week in Cannes. Deals have already been closed with Signature Entertainment in the U.K., Minerva in Italy, Eagle Films in the Middle East and Dexin Films in the former Yugoslavia.

The film starts shooting this week in India and then moves to Vancouver.

7 Questions With … Sean Bean of TNT’s Legends

CHANNEL GUIDE
By Kellie Freeze
Thursday, August 7, 2014 3:07 pm

I had a phone number and I was afraid to dial it. That’s how I felt before I interviewed Sean Bean. He’s well known for playing tough and intimidating characters like Ned Stark in Game of Thrones and Boromir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and even as the bad guys in Patriot Games and GoldenEye, he’s as much known for his intensity as he is for his often spectacular death scenes. So when it came time to call him on the phone to talk about his new TNT series, Legends, I’ll admit I was a wee bit nervous. And excited.

When Sean answered his phone, instead of a growl, his greeting of “Hello Kellie,” was more like a purr. I was instantly smitten. There is something about his voice that is both powerful and terrifying and utterly, utterly sexy. And charming. I was amazed by how funny he is and how often Sean laughed during our interview. I’d like to think that it’s because I’m that delightful, but I suspect it’s because Sean isn’t as scary as he appears on screen. That’s probably why he’s a terrific actor, and if you think about the words I’ve used to describe him: tough, intimidating, intense, powerful, funny, sexy, you’ll know why he’s perfectly suited to play multiple characters in TNT’s thriller, Legends. Bean can play a variety of diverse characters because he’s a multi-faceted person.

I have seen the series’ first two episode and they’re even more riveting than the show’s trailers. I can’t wait for more episodes. The entire cast is fantastic, but Sean Bean is mesmerizing and it’s going to be a delicious and torturous treat to wait a week between episodes, as I’ve gotten a bit spoiled by binge TV watching. Sean hadn’t yet watched any of Legends’ completed episodes so he peppered me with questions about what made the final cut and what hadn’t.

Then I asked Sean our 7 Questions and found his answers the exact opposite of what I expected. Perhaps you’ll agree that you may know Sean Bean the actor, but you hardly know Sean Bean the man.

1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?

I don’t read many magazines. I read Gardeners’ World Magazine. It’s a British magazine. It sounds rather mundane, but it’s my favorite. (Laughs) Oh God, there’s plenty. I suppose, Sheffield United — they’re my football team, I love their weekly magazine. I also read The Guardian.

2. If your TV carried just three shows or networks, what would they be?
I like Discovery and National Geographic. I love Pawn Stars, I’ve been watching a lot of television and I like Mountain Men on The History Channel. They’ve got a guy called Tom, an old guy, who’s a lovely chap.

3. What are three things that you have to have in your fridge or pantry?
Milk, eggs — that sounds a bit boring, doesn’t it? — And blueberries.

Sean Bean is in talks to star opposite Sally Hawkins in the romance “Maudie,” which set to start shooting in Newfoundland in July.

Bean will play a reclusive local fish peddler who hires Maud Dowley — a tiny disabled woman –  to be his housekeeper for his small home. The story, set in the 1950s and 1960s, follows their romance as she becomes a well-known folk artist whose paintings hang in The White House.

Mongrel Intl., the new acquisition division of Canadian shingle Mongrel Media, is handling worldwide sales rights to the period romancer at this year’s Cannes Film Market. “Maudie,” a Canadian-Irish co-production, marks the first pickup for Mongrel Intl.

Game Of Thrones' Sean Bean Replaces Brendan Fraser In TNT's Legends (CONTACT MUSIC)

Author: Kelly West

Things didn't work out for ABC's Missing, but the cancelled ABC drama may not be the last we've seen of Sean Bean on the small screen. The actor has been cast to fill the role vacated by Brendan Fraser in TNT's drama pilot Legends. From the description of the part, he may not be the only person playing the character.

Legends comes from Homeland and 24's Howard Gordon and follows a deep-cover operative named Martin-Odum who has the useful ability of transforming himself into other people, which likely proves especially helpful in his undercover work. But - assuming that transform means to completely take on the appearance of someone else - it seems like we'd be also seeing other people playing the part of Martin (when the character plays them). Martin's own identity plays a big role in the story, as Legends' description for the drama also notes that Martin's identity is questioned "when a mysterious stranger suggests that Martin isn’t who he thinks he is."

The pilot was originally set for NBC, but later move to TNT, after which Brendan Fraser was cast as the lead. As of last month, Fraser had exited the role due to creative differences. THR reports today that Bean has been brought in to star.

Sean Bean's plan for roof terrace rejected after objections from neighbours (MIRROR)

By Simon Boyle

Sean Bean has been refused permission to build a roof terrace after neighbours said it would allow him to peer into their bedrooms.

The Lord of the Rings actor, 53, wanted to transform a flat roof on the second floor of his £2million home into a terrace, complete with a 6ft translucent privacy screen.

Four-times married Bean, who is dating art curator Victoria Golembiovskaya, had wanted it to overlook his own garden.

But four residents complained and the local council rejected his plans.

A neighbour in North West London said: “Sean’s a regular face in the area.

“In fact, you quite often see more than just his face as he is always pacing around on his balcony in just a towel, chatting on his phone.

Sean Bean in live BBC cock-up (THE SUN)

SEAN Bean caused red faces on the One Show last night after declaring he'd had his whole body waxed – except his "c***".

The straight-talking Yorkshireman, who plays a transvestite in new telly drama Accused, was telling hosts Matt Baker and Alex Jones how he prepared for the part dressing up as a woman.

Speaking live on BBC1 at 7.20pm, he joked: "There's certainly a lot to do, isn't there?

"I had a full body wax. Well, almost...they didn't do me c***!"

Gobsmacked Matt and Alex quickly changed the subject, and a spokesman for the Beeb later apologised for the remark.

Sean, 53, made his name on hit ITV drama series Sharpe and has since gone on to star in a string of Hollywood movies, including Lord of the Rings and GoldenEye.

Jimmy McGovern's legal drama Accused returned to BBC1 with more than 5 million viewers on Tuesday night, while Jack Whitehall sitcom Bad Education bagged the highest viewing figures for a new comedy on BBC3.

Accused, which began its second series with Sean Bean as a transgender character, was watched by 5.3 million viewers, a 23.4% share, between 9pm and 10pm on Tuesday.

It was up on the 3.2 million who watched the final episode of the first series in November 2010.

Accused predictably had the better of a second half of a Lewis repeat on ITV1, watched by 2.9 million viewers, a 13.4% share, between 8pm and 10pm.

Sean Bean: Accused love scenes 'uninhibited' (WHATS ON TV)

Actor Sean Bean has revealed that he and co-star Stephen Graham "really went for it" when it came to filming love scenes for their new TV drama Accused.

The Game Of Thrones star, who plays cross-dressing Tracie in the second series of the show, praised the 'unusual' casting which sees Stephen playing his onscreen lover Tony.

"When he first saw me as Tracie he said, 'You look great!'" Sean revealed

"Stephen's a pretty masculine guy but he's also got a sensitive, vulnerable side and Tony has too. The chemistry between us and what we achieved was good because we didn't have any inhibitions. He went for it and so did I."

And Sean added he could not turn down the chance to appear in the show, given that it is written by Cracker and The Street creator Jimmy McGovern - of whom he is a big fan.

Keira Knightley Joins Chris Pine In Kenneth Branagh’s “Jack Ryan” Movie (FLICKS AND BITS)

Keira Knightley has landed the female lead opposite Chris Pine in Kenneth Branagh’s yet-to-be titled “Jack Ryan” thriller. Chris Pine takes on  the classic Tom Clancy character, who has previously been played in novel-to-screen adaptations by Alec Baldwin in ’The Hunt for Red October,’ by Harrison Ford in both ’Patriot Games’ and ‘Clear and Present Danger,’ and finally by Ben Affleck in ‘The Sum of All Fears.’ The story for this film centers on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Jack Ryan (Chris Pine), who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the US economy. Sean’s a beauty (SUN)

TOUGH guy Stephen Graham has admitted co-star Sean Bean’s “lovely long legs” were very distracting while filming a new TV drama.

He never expected to be “in a love story” with Sean, who plays a transvestite in award-winning BBC1 series Accused.

Stephen – famed for his role in This Is England – told how he supported Sean during filming.

He said: “I wanted Sean to know I was there for him from the start and I looked deep into his eyes.

“We were doing a scene one day sitting on a sofa and I found myself really gazing at his lovely long legs. Everyone on set was going on about them and how good his legs look in white tights.

Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones And Evangeline Lilly In The Running For The Jack Ryan Reboot 1 Comment published: 2012-08-01 22:44:15 Author: Eric Eisenberg (CINEMA BLEND)

For years Chris Pine sat alone as the only cast member attached to the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot. While the actor has been attached to the project since October 2009, it has undergone so many delays that it has never been able to pick up any other stars. That is finally starting to change, however. Last month it was revealed that not only will Kenneth Branagh be directing the movie, but he will be playing the central villain as well, and now there are reports that the search for the film's female lead has been narrowed down to three actresses.

Deadline says that Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones and Evangeline Lilly are all being considered to play a lead in the upcoming action film. Of the group, Knightley is considered the frontrunner, though the other two are very much in the mix.

Sean Bean Interview: Terrorism Around Us, How He Relaxes And Finding His Groove (HUFFINGTON POST)

If I could have a penny for every time I've watched Sean Bean pick up a gun (or bow and arrow if he's got his toga on for Game of Thrones/Lord of the Rings/anything with Sharpe in it), look meaningfully into the semi-distance and plot a one-man revenge for the way the world has turned against him, I'd... be able to buy Patriot Games on DVD. Twice.

Everything Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham have learnt, the original British tough man has already forgotten.

Why never a romantic lead, I wonder? "I like what I do, and it appears to be working out," he chuckles. Which is fair enough, when you think how many millions he must have made from bulked-up, narrow-eyed appearances in everything from Lord of the Rings to Sharpe, via Patriot Games and Lady Chatterley's Lover (the last one a bit worryingly romantic, but ultimately doomed, thankfully).

So it comes as something of a surprise to find him, in person, disarmingly gentle, full of northern shyness and an apparently authentic humility. No middle-distance, shrewd appraisals, or any of the suspicion on which he has built a substantial career of two decades and counting. My respect for him as an actor just went up.

He's here to talk about his latest - guess what - terrorist thriller, filmed on the streets of London and concerning the security services' worst nightmare, a crime about to occur, but attributable to someone nowhere on their files - a 'Cleanskin'.
