The Hobbit Beijing premiere

BEIJING -- Director Peter Jackson attended a red-carpet premiere of the final "Hobbit" film in Beijing on Tuesday, saying that he has been having a hard time getting used to the nickname "Peter the Great" affectionately given to him by Chinese fans.

Jackson was joined at the event by actor Richard Armitage, who said he would miss playing in the "Hobbit" trilogy and would now focus on his role in TV drama "Hannibal."

The New Zealand ambassador to China also gave a speech welcoming fans to visit his country, where the films were made.

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" ends Jackson's massively successful six-film franchise that started with the 2001 release of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring."

Richard Armitage Talks Legacy

By Jack Phillips, Epoch Times | August 11, 2014

Richard Armitage, who plays Thorin Oakenshield, talked about what the legacy The Hobbit trilogy will have 10 years from now.

“I think when ‘The Lord of the Rings’ was made, it just felt like such a breakthrough in terms of cinematography. Since then, there’s been a huge shift in the technology. I think ‘The Hobbit’ has been a big experiment in technology,” he said, according to ScreenCrush.

Armitage also talked about method acting–or staying in character.

“And there was one day on The Hobbit when we were at the top of a mountain and we were left there all day in our costumes. So, we sort of stayed in character all day and we did helicopter shots and that was when I thought, ‘You know what? If I can stay with the character for 12 hours, maybe I’m inside of him? It doesn’t come and go,’” he said.

His interview comes just a few days after it was announced there would be an Extended Edition for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” According to CNET, it adds about 25 minutes to the lengthy film.

If you were being chased by a terrifying tyrannosaurus, a small red bicycle wouldn't be many peoples first choice of transport.

However, that is exactly what Sean Bean was riding as he filmed scenes for his latest blockbuster in the Kent countryside.

The actor looked remarkably cool despite his sticky situation, and instead appeared to be enjoying spending time on the vintage chopper.

The 54-year-old was wearing a loose-fitting shirt, brown trousers and brown, leather boots for the scene.

The Lord of the Rings star is having a successful year after leading Britain in the nominations for the 2013 International Emmy Awards.

He has received two nominations for his role as a cross-dresser in TV show Accused, which also saw its creator Jimmy McGovern shortlisted for best drama series.

Hiddlestoners, Potterheads and the Cumbercollective: Film's most dedicated fandoms

Does Tom Hiddleston have the best fans?

Yahoo Movies
By Cat Collins | Yahoo UK Movies Features – 6 hours ago

While we admire their dedication, sometimes hardcore fans can be a little overwhelming.

For example, over 93,000 Batman fans who feel Ben Affleck is the wrong man to play Bruce Wayne have signed a Change.org petition to remove him from the role.

And Tom Hiddleston has said he's "flattered and amazed" by a group of Hiddlestoners who have decided he deserves his own solo superhero movie.

Saddened that Hiddleston won't appear in Joss Whedon's Avengers follow-up, and clearly concerned that we might never see Loki again, the fans have collected over 22,000 signatures petitioning Marvel for the God of Mischief to star in his own story on the big screen, steadily working toward their goal of 30,000.

But are Hiddlestoners the most dedicated fan base of them all? Let's see...

Hiddlestoners

Object of affection:
Tom Hiddleston

What's it all about?
Dedicated and determined, Tom Hiddleston obsessives are pretty hardcore in their love for the actor. After piquing their interest in Marvel's 2011 superhero epic, Thor, Hiddleston further seduced his legion of fans when he reprised the role of Loki in Joss Whedon's wildly successful team-up, Avengers Assemble.

But more than the standard group of swooning teenagers, Loki's Army have used their force for more than simply penning fanfic and stalking Hiddles on Twitter. One gang, Hiddlestoners Have Hearts, have even raised thousands of pounds for UNICEF in his name.

Don't say:
"Phwoar! That Thor's a bit of alright, isn't he?"

Do say:
"Oh my God, he's so adorable!"

Cumberbatch disapproves of Cumberbitches...

it's a revolution, I suppose·

The Cumbercollective

Object of affection:
Benedict Cumberbatch

What's it all about?
Formerly known as Cumberbitches or Cumberbabes, before Benedict himself poured disapproving scorn on the offensive noun, the lusty Cumbercollective have but one simple goal in mind: To meet Benedict Cumberbatch and make him fall in love with them.

It's a dream many can understand, albeit one the man himself seems to be a bit embarrassed by, but for most of them a dream it will remain. Luckily for them, he ain't going nowhere.

Don't say:
"You know what? I think Ricardo Montalban was a better Khan."

Do say:
"The Purple Shirt of Sex. That is all."

Ian McKellen Cast as Sherlock Holmes

COMIC BOOK RESOURCES
Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at 11:45am PST - by Josh Wigler

Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller have a new Sherlock Holmes to welcome into their ranks.

Lord of the Rings and X-Men star Ian McKellen has been cast as the iconic detective in a new film called A Slight Trick of the Mind. McKellen will reunite with his Gods and Monsters director Bill Condon for the project, an adaptation of the novel written by Mitch Cullin, with a screenplay by Jeffrey Hatcher.

In A Slight Trick of the Mind, McKellen plays a long-retired Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock’s days of sleuthing are behind him, as he now lives in a sleepy Sussex village with his housekeeper and son, an amateur detective in his own right. But Sherlock remains haunted by one unsolved case from 50 years ago, drawing him back into the detective game.

'Lord of the Rings' star Orlando Bloom tipped for Batman role

Orlando Bloom is being strongly considered for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Batman-Superman crossover

IRISH CENTRAL

According to UK publication The Daily Express, Orlando Bloom is being strongly considered for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Batman-Superman crossover.

Ever since Welsh actor Christian Bale announced earlier in the month that he was giving up the Batman mantle, the internet has been abuzz with predictions on the next actor who will take up the role.

The Express says that a senior source at Warner Bros studio confirmed that Bloom is "odds-on to get the part, even before [their] first casting call."

The studio source says that Bloom "would be perfect to play off Henry [Cavill] and I think US audiences would be happy with two Brits as the joint male leads."

Hobbit blogging: The little one's a psycho (and one of them is Richard Armitage) STUFF.CO.NZ

Facebook Three Thorins but which one is actor Richard Armitage?

Although Jackson will be finished with his actors by the end of today, he still has a lot of post-production work to complete on the second instalment of the trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, and the final part, There and Back Again.

Still, even with all the pressure on him, he hasn't lost his sense of humour.

"I asked the various Thorins to pose just before they headed off to lunch. One of these is Richard Armitage, and two of them are not. It's your guess ... The one in the middle is a little psycho," he wrote.

"I am looking forward to making movies with everyone the same height in the future."

Jackson first began filming Tolkien's works in October 1999, with The Lord of the Rings.

The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies have given thousands of Kiwis a start in the film industry, and a huge boost to New Zealand's tourism industry.

However, the production has always been smooth. A complicated fight over the film rights, a fallout between Jackson and the studio heads, the bankruptcy of MGM and union dispute almost stopped the book getting to the screen.

Sean Bean in "Legends" TNT drama series trailer (video)

Sean Bean in
PanARMENIAN.Net - TNT has just greenlit another new show a day after ordering Michael Bay's "The Last Ship". Getting a series pick with 10-episodes order this time is "Legends" from "Homeland" producer Howard Gordon, AceShowbiz said.

The new drama series stars Sean Bean as Martin Odum, an undercover agent working for the FBI's Deep Cover Operations (D.C.O.) division. Martin has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a completely different person for each job. But he begins to question his own identity when a mysterious stranger suggests that Martin isn't the man he believes himself to be.

" 'Legends' has everything you want in a good spy drama: intriguing characters, multi-layered plots, a terrific cast and lots of action and suspense," Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), says of the new show.

"At the center of it all is Sean Bean, giving an outstanding performance in an extremely complex and difficult role. We are very excited to work with Howard Gordon and his fellow executive producers, who have put together a truly extraordinary drama."

Sean Bean: Wonderfully layered, beautifully complex: But seriously, Game of Thrones needs a hero (DAILY MIRROR) By Chris Bennion

Chris Bennion reviews the fifth episode of fantasy epic's third season. If you don't like spoilers, the internet is not for you

Chris is holding out for a hero 'til the end of the season finale: He’s gotta be Sean Bean/And he’s gotta be Sean Bean/And he’s gotta be Sean Bean, Se-an Be-e-an

I wish Sean Bean was still in this. There, I’ve said it! Oh god, I’m really sorry, I know it’s still really good and all that and Charles Dance is in it and so’s Aiden Gillen and so’s Iain Glen. But. Yunno. Sean Bean, man. Sean. Bean!

Boromir! Double-oh-eight! Sharpe! Bloody Sharpe! Sharpe was in it. Imagine Game of Thrones, but with Sharpe in it. That’s the greatest show ever! And now it’s just Game of Thrones. It’s good. But there isn’t a single telly show that couldn’t be improved by the presence of Sean Bean. Not Game of Thrones. Not Take Me Out. Not Thatcher’s funeral.

Crikey, even the O2 adverts are brilliant. I’m not usually swayed by advertising but 30 seconds into one of those bad boys and I’m all like: "Yeah. Yeah! I do want to go backstage at a Beyonce gig actually, I bloody deserve it."

Sometimes, when I’m watching the current season of GoT, I think about Sean Bean and it makes me all sad. When little Arya Stark shed a little tear and asked if her decapitated father could be brought back to life, I was SO with her. It quite genuinely took me until the end of season two to accept that he’s not coming back. Is he? He’s not. Don’t give me false hope.

There’s something approaching a serious point here, bear with me. GoT is a story and a bloomin’ great one. But stories need a centre, they can’t just be myriad strands, interweaving and dancing about like spaghetti in a tumble dryer. Spaghetti in a tumble dryer is entertaining, but where does it get you? Now, if Sean Bean put the spaghetti in the tumble dryer and then watched it spin round while muttering about getting the filters cleaned out, that would be great television.

Martin Freeman: Making First "Hobbit" Film Was "Huge" The first installment of Peter Jackson's new Tolkein trilogy arrives on Blu Ray

As “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” – the first installment director Peter Jackson’s long-awaited film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein’s beloved prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” saga – makes its way to Blu-ray, Bilbo Baggins himself – in the form of actor Martin Freeman (“Sherlock”) – looks back at the opening chapter, recalling the journey from green screen sound stages to a full-fledged Shire.

What was the experience of making one of these films with Peter?
I think I probably did myself a favor and tried not to do too much imagining about what it might be. I think whatever you conjure up nothing ever is what you imagine it to be. Whether it’s your trip here or your trip home, nothing is ever how you’re going to imagine it. So I suppose I was expecting the unexpected. The only thing I knew it would be was huge. I knew it would feel big, and I was right there. It did feel big. But outside of that, I had a feeling of what Pete was like as a director, but I didn’t have direct experience of him. I knew a couple of the actors but not well. It was really stepping into a different territory. Very often, you’re at least familiar with a few people from around, but I’ve never been to New Zealand before. So it was really much a fresh slate really. I didn’t know Ian [McKellen]. I didn’t know most of the people on it, by a long shot.

Exclusive Video: Martin Freeman on The Hobbit The star of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has some NSFW words for his co-star Benedict Cumberbatch. (CRAVE ON LINE)

March 5th, 2013 William Bibbiani

Bibbs grills the star on his personal history with J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy series, how the ending of The Hobbit changed when the film split from two films into three, and Andy Serkis's first turn behind the camera as Peter Jackson's 2nd Unit Director. Freeman also has some decidedly choice words for his "Sherlock" co-star, and the future voice of Smaug, Benedict Cumberbatch. You can see them on-screen together (sort of) in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which hits theaters on December 13, 2013.

Sean Bean and Channing Tatum are 'Jupiter Ascending' with the Wachowskis (PRIDE SOURCE)

The crazy, heart-on-its-sleeve sci-fi epic "Cloud Atlas" didn't get the kind of love Andy and Lana Wachowski were looking for, but their latest project, "Jupiter Ascending," is reported to be much more like their mega-successful "Matrix" trilogy (and that's good for everyone's bottom line in the long run, since "Atlas" made about 35 cents at the box office). Of course, that doesn't mean anybody can adequately explain the new film's plot, which involves genetic superbeings who've been bred with animal DNA and the bounty hunters whose job it is to track them. But no matter, the Wachowskis are never boring, as though their own genetics were incapable of something so routine. It can be about anything, really, and nobody will accuse them of slacking.
