She has been hard at work on her latest film Berlin, I Love You.

And Keira Knightley looked content and happy as she strolled through Berlin Tegel Airport on Saturday.

The Oscar-nominated actress, 32, showed off her natural beauty as she went make-up free for her trip through the terminal, revealing radiant skin and sparkling eyes.

The star looked in fantastic spirits as she chatted with a pal, signed autographs and pulled a series of animated expressions.

Berlin, I Love You is an anthology film which tells 20 separate tales of love in the German capital.

Keira will star alongside stars including Jared Leto, Renee Zellweger and Orlando Bloom.

The British beauty combines her acclaimed career with motherhood to daughter Edie, now two, who she welcomed with Klaxons frontman James Righton in May 2015.

Fans rejoice over Love Actually 2 as they discover Colin Firth has three kids with Portuguese wife, Liam Neeson's son is engaged to childhood sweetheart and Andrew Lincoln is married to Kate Moss on Red Nose Day special

It was the highly awaited sequel to the iconic festive flick 13 years after it first hit cinema screens.

And Love Actually's Red Nose Day TV special didn't fail to entertain as viewers got to delve into the worlds of their beloved characters once more on Friday night as audiences caught up with Mark, Jamie and Daniel again.

Setting the tone, the short clip began with Juliet (Keira Knightly) on the sofa with her husband Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) when Mark (Andrew Lincoln) suddenly arrived at their front door equipped with cue cards again.

Starting off on the right foot, fans rejoiced as they saw Colin Firth's character Jamie happily married to Portuguese love Aurelia (Lucia Moniz) following his public proposal 13 years ago, while still sporting his signature turtle necks.

Viewers were filled with glee as he was revealed to be the proud father of three bi-lingual children with a fourth on the way.

Despite cinematic revellers remembering his character valiantly learning his other half's native tongue, Jamie's Portuguese still isn't quite up to scratch as he hilariously responded to Aurelia touching reveal about their new arrival.

Behind the scenes of Comic Relief’s Love Actually: Andrew Lincoln’s creepy cards return

GUARDIAN
 Tom Lamont
Sunday 12 March 2017 10.00 EDT Last modified on Sunday 12 March 2017 20.10 EDT

Being on the set of a Richard Curtis film is very like being in a Richard Curtis film. Everyone is good-looking and brisk and witty, here in the borrowed London townhouse where the 60-year-old director is shooting a short sequel to his movie Love Actually. Outside in the real world people are angry, at odds, ever more polarised. On Curtis’s closed set, a dungareed world of Lillies and Berties and Cols and Ems, trays of brownies circulate and the chat is about who slept with who once but stayed friends. Hugh Grant is present, roaming around and given licence to be caustic and urbane: “If anyone needs me I’ll be in my lair.” Otherwise the prevailing spirit is level-headedness and sympathy. “Richard likes it,” an assistant says to me, “when people are nice to each other. Plum?”

Curtis is making this short followup to Love Actually in aid of Comic Relief and Red Nose Day, causes he co-founded in the 1980s. Many of the actors from the original have agreed to return, including Grant, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley, Bill Nighy and Liam Neeson; charity tempting them back, after 14 years, to Curtisland, that preposterous and seductive fantasia-Britain that was established in a trilogy of famous romcoms: Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Notting Hill (1999) and Love Actually (2003). Of the three it was the last, a multi-narrative soup of soppy vignettes, written and directed by Curtis, that went on to have the most prodigious afterlife. Love Actually is now broadcast on TV with metronomic, Bond-movie regularity. In a single week last winter more than 1m copies of the film were sold on DVD in the US. At around the same time, in the UK, Love Actually was voted by the Radio Times “the nation’s favourite Christmas movie”.

On the set of the sequel, Firth ponders the movie’s substantial modern viewership and positions it in the culture somewhere alongside The Sound of Music. Grant, when asked to account for Love Actually’s enduring popularity, assumes his role as resident cynic and grumbles: “It’s unaccountable.”

Grant sips water and tries to catch his breath. He’s just shimmied his way around a bit of the set made up to look like 10 Downing Street, a grand marble staircase behind him hung with photographs of former prime ministers. His photo is among those on the wall, the actor today reprising his role as the Blair-ish PM who in the original film put aside duties of state to woo his secretary, played by Martine McCutcheon. Such is the power of love in a Richard Curtis film that Grant had to dance out his romantic vigour by wiggling up and down the halls of Downing Street to a Girls Aloud song. There’s another dance in the sequel. As with most of the new scenes in Curtis’s followup, an incident or encounter from the first film is referenced, with some sort of twist catching us up on what has happened to the character, a decade and a half on.

Curtis has Grant say something like this when they shoot a press conference scene, next. The fictional PM is asked to give the public his view on the future of world affairs, and with implausible but seductive simplicity (that patented Curtis mix) Grant insists: “Good’s going to win, I’m actually sure of it.” They do the line a few times before an assistant yells for a cut and everybody breaks for lunch. Lamb wraps.

There was a scene in Notting Hill, which also starred Grant, during which his character went along to a movie shoot: he got placed on the sidelines with a pair of headphones so that he could listen in on the actors’ dialogue. In this way he accidentally heard them mutter bitchy secrets to each other. It happens to me in eerie replication one day. A scene is being reset and a prominent actor fills the waiting with wicked chat. There is a dig at an absent castmate. Then the actor ranks by merit some of the films they have made since the last Love Actually, the one they had to be talked into, the “pay-day”. Blushing, absolutely fascinated, I listen for as long as decency and personal ethics allow before turning the volume down.

So there is a little darkness in Curtisland, after all. Commentators on the outside would suggest it has always been there. When Love Actually celebrated a 10th anniversary in 2013, various critical reappraisals appeared. Persuasive cases were made about the movie’s shaky treatment of women, especially. By this point I’d seen Love Actually enough times to have a demented familiarity with its dozen plots (Liam Neeson advising his stepson how to win the girl of his dreams, Alan Rickman cheating on his wife Emma Thompson, Andrew Lincoln declaring himself to the unattainable Keira Knightley by showing up at her doorstep with handwritten signs) but I was never able to watch it through with the same old naivety after reading Lindy West’s furious and brilliant essay for Jezebel. West pointed out how much of the plot depended on women falling in love with their male employers, suggested “Hostile Work Environment: The Movie” as an alternative title, and went as far as likening the romance between Colin Firth’s character and his Portuguese maid, played by Lucia Moniz, to sex trafficking.

'To me, you are perfect': Keira Knightley is pictured for the first time shooting Love Actually's Comic Relief reboot with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Andrew Lincoln

DAILY MAIL

Keira Knightley was pictured filming Love Actually's Comic Relief for the first time on Wednesday with Chiwetel Ejiofor, [Peter] and Andrew Lincoln, [Mark].

The 31-year-old movie star, who plays Juliet, was pictured filming with her onscreen husband AND his best friend, leading viewers to wonder how their story has developed.

Standing on a London doorstep, Keira wore a cream jumper with the word: 'LOVE' emblazoned on the front as she looked as youthful as ever and Theory scarf print wide trousers.

Andrew Lincoln could be seen nearby during filming, wearing an oversized jacket by John Varvatos and sporting longer curly hair than before, while director Richard Curtis hovers close to him.

The sighting follows Richard Curtis's words during a recent interview with Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain last week.

He said: 'Someone's died, someone's got lots of kids, someone's been voted out of office and voted back into office.'

Emma Thompson says she won't be participating in the upcoming Love Actually sequel because it's "too soon" after her co-star Alan Rickman's 2016 death.

The 57-year-old actress played Rickman's wife in the 2003 movie, which also starred Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson and Colin Firth.

Keira Knightley defended by directors, Begin Again director John Carney slammed

Sydney Morning Herald
May 31, 2016

Keira Knightley's former directors have come to the defense of the star after filmmaker John Carney criticized her acting.

Carney directed the Oscar-nominee in the music-themed 2013 film Begin Again, but in a revealing interview with Britain's The Independent newspaper over the weekend, he slammed Knightley for her alleged diva behaviour and lack of serious acting skills.

"Keira has an entourage that follow her everywhere so it's very hard to get any real work done," he told the publication. "And as much as I tried to make it work I think that she didn't quite come out as a guitar-playing singer-songwriter. I learned that I'll never make a film with supermodels again."

He added, "I don't want to rubbish Keira, but you know it's hard being a film actor and it requires a certain level of honesty and self-analysis that I don't think she's ready for yet and I certainly don't think she was ready for on that film."

His comments irked both fans and her former collaborators, including Mark Romanek, who directed Knightley in 2010 thriller Never Let Me Go.

He took to Twitter on Monday to defend the actress, writing, "My experience with #keiraknightley was utterly spectacular on every level. I have no clue what this guy is talking about."

He ended the post with pointed words aimed at Carney, adding, "#arrogants--thead".

My experience with #keiraknightley was utterly spectacular on every level. I have no clue what this guy is talking about. #arrogantshithead

— mark romanek (@markromanek) May 30, 2016

My recollection of #keiraknightley's "entourage" was that her mum visited the set one day for an hour or two.

— mark romanek (@markromanek) May 30, 2016

Meanwhile, Lorene Scafaria, the writer/director of Knightley's 2012 film Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, echoed Romanek's statement.

"I agree with Mark," she posted. "Keira was a joy to work w/ (with). Present & easy & really, really good at her job. Just lovely."

Keira Knightley leads the stars at opening of La Traviata - the world's most fashionable opera

THE TELEGRAPH
24 MAY 2016 • 4:51PM

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West revealed themselves as surprise fans of the opera last night: “Awesome,” was Kanye’s verdict on the performance of Verdi’s La Traviata he’d just seen. “My husband always takes me to the opera - we love to go,” added Kim. They were joined in the stalls by Keira Knightley, Elizabeth Hurley, Luke Evans and Diane Von Furstenberg, all of whom had jetted to Rome to see the show alongside a host of Italian fashion and film stars including Monica Bellucci, Silvia Venturini Fendi and Frida Giannini.

Sofia Coppola

Opera is of course becoming increasingly popular, but this particularly glittering crowd was drawn by more than soprano Francesca Dotto’s top notes playing the doomed heroine, Violetta Valery. It was Valentino Garavani, founder of the Valentino fashion house, who sparked their interest when he decided to stage the opera. The beleaguered Teatro dell’Opera di Roma - suffering from a funding crisis - was happy to agree when the designer promised to supply the costumes himself, not only for the consumptive courtesan of the title but also for her friend and fellow seductress Flora.

The entire chorus was visibly thrilled to be singing in draped, pleated and expertly fitted gauze gowns designed by a top couturier rather than scruffy old hand-me-downs. Costumes for Dotto and Anna Malavasi (Flora) were made in the Valentino couture atelier under the eyes of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the Valentino creative directors now the man himself has stood down.

Not content with creating the costumes, Mr Garavani attracted the talents of Sofia Coppola, Oscar-nominated director daughter of Francis Ford, to direct the piece (“Opera. Rome. Valentino - how could I say no?” she’s said of taking the helm at her first opera), and Nathan Crowley who designed the sets for Batman Begins and Dark Knight.

Valentino Garavani

The combination looks like a winning one. The so-called most fashionable opera ever to be staged has already taken almost £900,000 in advance ticket sales against a total cost of £1.3million, according to WWD.

It's a girl! Keira Knightley and James Righton 'welcomed a daughter' in May... after actress admitted thought of having a baby boy was 'terrifying'

DAILY MAIL

It's a girl: Reports suggest Keira Knightley and husband  welcomed a baby girl in May.  They have yet to comment on the birth

She has kept mum since giving birth to her first child with husband James Righton last month.

Now reports suggest Keira Knightley is the proud mother of a baby girl.

People claims the 30-year-old actress welcomed a daughter, although no more details were made available.

She explained: 'Somebody said to me the other day, the problem with boys is - sorry, this is horrible - but when you’re changing their nappies, you can get the wee in your face... I never knew that before, so it was terrifying.

'And apparently they roll as well, so you have to try to stop them while you’re trying to grab something else in order to stop them peeing in your face. So that sounds quite interesting.'

Keira Knightley Deserves A High Five For These Feminist Truth Bombs

MTV
By Nova M. Bajamonti
April 4, 2015

Patrick Demarchelier/Interview

Actress Keira Knightley proudly labels herself a feminist and regularly stands up for women. She’s been outspoken in interviews, advocating for better treatment of women in entertainment, whether it’s the roles available to them or the way their bodies are portrayed in magazines.

Yet, why is it that when we think of celebrity feminists, she isn’t in the notorious feminist echelon of Beyonce, Lorde, Taylor Swift and Emma Watson?

She’s fearless when it comes to her bold opinions, and that’s why, when we’re looking for more role models in Hollywood, we should look straight at Knightley. It’s time for Keira Knightley to take her rightful place in the ranks of Hollywood feminist heroes.

Here are just a few reasons we’re loving her right now.

When it comes to Photoshop, she just says no.

gif 4

In November she protested against the way women are constantly picked apart through Photoshop by posing topless in Interview Magazine, refusing retouching. Not only did this please those who support the #freethenipple campaign (Miley’s a proud one!) but it demanded that women are respected for the body that they naturally have.

“Knightley told Time. “That [shoot] was one of the ones where I said: ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are.”

While celebrity photography can be artful, she also said it can be problematic when it manipulates women’s images. “I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame,” she said.

"Fantastic" Keira Knightley: "Like Having a Sister on Set"

E!
by MARC MALKIN Today 6:15 AM PDT

Not that we ever doubted how amazingly awesome Keira Knightley is to work with, but it's still nice to hear her co-stars gushing over the Oscar nominee.

"She's so down to earth and level headed and works astonishingly hard and keeps it light and easy breezy on the set," Matthew Goode says in an interview included on the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray editions of the The Imitation Game. "[She] has a really good sense of humor. It's like having a sister on set, which is fantastic."

And Knightley had no problem being the lone female star of the movie. "She knew exactly how to control the group of lads…and get over that lads mentality," Allen Leech said.

Fellow Imitation Game Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch believes the film is the "best work she's ever done.

"She's just brilliant, really brilliant," he said.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s wedding: What we know so far

METRO
Jessie Mellor for Metro.co.ukSaturday 14 Feb 2015 1:48 pm

Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly set to break a thousand hearts today with speculation of a Valentine’s Day wedding. He’s keeping his cards close to his chest, but here’s what we know so far.

Despite a veil of secrecy around the nuptials to rival any Sherlock episode, a few scraps of information about today’s wedding have put the media and Twitter into overdrive.

Pictures have emerged of the church where he and pregnant fiancée Sophie Hunter plan to say I Do on the Isle of Wight.

So here’s what we know so far:

– The happy couple are said to be planning on marrying on the Isle Of Wight in Mottistone.

–  Roads have been closed near the supposed venue of the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul.

– Vans with food, sculptures and flowers have been arriving at the expected reception venue and marquees have been erected.

– Security guards have been patrolling the area.

– The Sun have reported that Benedict’s Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman, 43, will be best man.

– Celebrity friends said to be attending include Keira Knightley.

– The hotel nearest to the church is fully booked.

In a nod to both personal and British history, the couple wed in a church with deep ties to the bride’s family

On an English island once favored by Queen Victoria, Benedict Cumberbatchand Sophie Hunter wed in a tasteful affair fit for a titled resident of Downton Abbey.

On Saturday, the duo exchanged vows at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Mottistone, England. The location is a medieval church dating back to the 12th century.

Mottistone is located on the Isle of Wight, England’s largest island and the former home of famed poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, as well as Queen Victoria, who built a summer residence there with her husband, Prince Albert.

"It’s a beautiful setting and very old English, very quaint and pretty," a local tells PEOPLE of the church where they swapped vows on Valentine’s Day. “The church is not that big … I would say maybe 100 people maximum would fit in there.”

The bride arrived in a Jaguar Mark VII, ditching the traditional Rolls Royce.

About 40 guests were seen arriving at the church Saturday along with several limousines around the Mottistone estate.

The couple did not use the church’s organist to play for the wedding. Locals confirmed that they didn’t use the church’s florist or a Mottistone baker.

Night before the Wedding

Reports that the The Imitation Game actor and Oscar nominee, 38, spent Friday evening at the Royal Yacht Squadron in nearby Cowes, a prestigious yacht club that counts Queen Elizabeth II as a patron. Prince Philip serves as the club’s admiral. The private-members club is a roughly 30 minute drive from the church.

"It’s a private members club and very private so I’m sure it was perfect for him," islander Ross Findon told PEOPLE.

The Reception

After the ceremony, the couple and their guests headed to a reception at Mottistone Manor, which is now owned by the country’s National Trust

.The 650-acre estate holds historical significance as it was first mentioned in Britain’s famed Domesday Book, a survey of England dating back to 1086. (Yes, you read that correctly.) The oldest parts of the home that currently stands on the estate date back to the 15th century.

"It’s a beautiful place and the gardens are very picturesque," Findon who spotted the groom in nearby Cowes just last weekend, tells PEOPLE. "There are sprawling lawns surrounding by roses, a nearby woodland with a stunning bluebell meadow that is really special. It’s a very romantic little spot."

A local tells PEOPLE Hunter’s family is related to the Nicholsons, who once owned Mottistone Manor and now live on the estate as tenants.

"Sophie is one of the Nicholsons, which is why they have chosen to have it here," the local source says. "The Nicholson family used to own the manor until they sold it to the National Trust … It’s a beautiful house."

Another local tells PEOPLE that Sophie’s great grandmother, also named Sophie, is the sister of first Lord Mottistone, General Jack Seely. Current tenant Lord Charles Nicholson has a house in Hampshire and not there all the time. His father used to live there permanently after he retired.

Yet in traditional British fashion, locals aren’t making a giant fuss about the couple’s hush-hush nuptials.

"Honestly people just aren’t that bothered about it, so there’s been no big ‘talk of the town’ or anything like that," says the source.

However, the source says locals have spotted “deliveries coming and going” on “lorries” (that’s trucks to us Americans).

"The manor is right opposite the church so it will be very private," the source adds, "which I’m sure was the intention."

Keira Knightley and Benedict Cumberbatch Reenact Iconic American Movies

The British are coming – or as anyone in Hollywood has long known, they've already arrived!

Be it Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley or Eddie Redmayne, there has been a British invasion of American movies – and awards ceremonies – over recent years.

That fact is humorously skewered in a cheeky short film for Vanity Fair by London-born photographer Jason Bell, whose work frequently appears in that magazine. (VF's annual Hollywood issue will be available Feb. 5 in digital editions and on newsstands.)

Bell had the idea to shoot an all-U.K. edition of the magazine's annual Hollywood portfolio (whose 30-page portfolio includes 44 English icons this year) after observing that "this British invasion of Hollywood has gotten so out of hand." The short film is cleverly divided into three parts – in the style of a World War II era newsreel – with the first clip showing the Brits "Preparing for War," the second depicting their "Coming to America" to infiltrate the film industry and the final installment, "Victory is Assured."

Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley is taking a well-deserved break from all the hullabaloo of awards season to spend some quality time at home in London with her hubby James Righton.

The Imitation Game stunner was spotted on a midday stroll earlier today, doing her best to stay warm and keep her baby bump all covered up in an oversized shearling coat.

And before you go criticizing the Oscar nominees casual ensemble, we'd like to point out that Knightley herself just explained in Elle U.K.'s March issue that she isn't one to follow fashion trends too strictly.

British hopes will be riding high for this year's Academy Awards, with actors Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch, Felicity Jones and Rosamund Pike all getting Oscar nominations for their work.

Eddie Redmayne's nod follows his triumph at the Golden Globes where he won Best Leading Actor in a Drama for his transformation into scientist Stephen Hawking in the moving drama 'The Theory of Everything'.

Benedict Cumberbatch is also recognised for his work playing a brilliant but challenged scientist, for his part the role of mathematician Alan Turing in 'The Imitation Game'.

Fellow Brit David Oyelowo missed out on a Best Actor nod for 'Selma', although the Martin Luther King biopic did score a nod in the Best Film category.

These actors will be up against Michael Keaton, celebrated for his sparky comeback turn in 'Birdman'. Michael also walked off with a Golden Globe for his role last week, and will surely be Eddie's biggest competition.

It's not all about the men, though. Former Bond girl Rosamund Pike has been nominated for her career-changing turn as the beautiful but unpredictable Amy Dunne in David Fincher's thriller 'Gone Girl', adapted from Gillian Flynn's bestseller.

Felicity Jones has also been tipped for her role of Stephen Hawking's wife Jane, opposite Eddie Redmayne.

These two will be up against firm favourite for her role in 'Still Alice', Julianne Moore, as well as Marion Cotillard and Reese Witherspoon.

'Birdman' and 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' share leading status for the honours, with nine nominations apiece.

British stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne are going head to head for best actor at this year's Film Bafta awards.

The pair are nominated for their roles as pioneering scientists Alan Turing in The Imitation Game and Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, respectively.

Their nominations are no real surprise; both the stars have already drawn huge praise from critics, along with numerous other nominations. Stephen Fry, who announced this year's shortlist alongside Sam Claflin, even uttered a "No!" of feigned surprise when Cumberbatch's name was read out.

The duo are up against Ralph Fiennes for The Grand Budapest Hotel, Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler and Michael Keaton for Birdman.

Redmayne's co-star Felicity Jones is nominated for best actress for her role as Hawking's wife in The Theory of Everything, while Keira Knightley, who stars opposite Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game, is vying for the best supporting actress gong.

Fellow Brits Rosamund Pike and Imelda Staunton were also nominated, for best actress in Gone Girl and best supporting actress in Pride.

Sweet: James Righton planted a tender kiss on his pregnant wife Keira Knightley as they enjoyed a low-key date in Notting Hill earlier this week

She announced just last month that she is expecting her first child but Keira Knightley made sure to keep any sign of a baby bump under wraps in London on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old actress and her husband James Righton stepped out for lunch in Notting Hill and the Klaxons singer couldn't resist planting a tender kiss on his pregnant wife.

Keira sported a bulky sheepskin coat, jeans and black rimmed glasses as she enjoyed the laid-back date with her spouse.

Golden Globes: Cumberbatch, Redmayne, Pike and Jones among Britons recognised

Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones in The Theory of Everything and Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game

Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones are among a host of British stars in contention for the 2015 Golden Globe awards.

Cumberbatch, Redmayne and fellow Briton David Oyelowo make up three of the nominees for best actor in a drama.

Felicity Jones, Redmayne's co-star in Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything, is up for best actress in a drama, as is Gone Girl's Rosamund Pike.

The 72nd Golden Globes will be held in Beverly Hills on 11 January.

Cumberbatch's citation comes for his role as World War II code breaker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, for which Keira Knightley gets a best supporting actress nod.

Bookmakers William Hill make Redmayne their 10/11 favourite to win the best actor in a drama award, with Cumberbatch just behind at 6/4.

Both actors were nominated for Screen Actors Guild awards on Wednesday, as were Jones, Pike and Knightley.

Cumberbatch and Redmayne are expected to receive Oscar nominations next month, as is Michael Keaton for his work in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's darkly comic Birdman.

Because the Golden Globes divides its nominations between dramas and musicals and comedies, Keaton is shortlisted in a different category.

Redmayne said he was "beyond thrilled" and would "have a few mulled wines to celebrate", while Jones, who plays Hawking's first wife Jane in The Theory of Everything, said it was "a tremendous moment to get the news".

Knightley and Pike are among other nominees to have expressed pleasure and thanks at having been recognised.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and Rosamund Pike are amongst the British nominations at the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Benedict, 38, is in the running for honours in both the TV and movie categories, and will contest for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for his performance in Sherlock and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his turn in The Imitation Game.

The delighted actor said: 'I'm over the moon. And so delighted to receive recognition in such esteemed company for both Sherlock and The Imitation Game by my acting peers. What an amazing early Christmas present! Thank you to all who voted and watched both pieces of work.'

But the actor faces stern competition in the form of Eddie Redmayne, 32, whose incredible performance as Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything has prompted talk of Oscar and BAFTA nominations.

His British co-star Felicity Jones has also been nominated for her role as Hawking's devoted first wife, Jane in the Category for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.

She will battle it out with Jennifer Aniston (for Cake), Julienne Moore (for Still Alice), Reese Witherspoon (for Wild) and Rosamund Pike, whose performance in a Hollywood adaptation of bestselling novel Gone Girl has won her rave reviews.

Keira Knightley has been nominated for two gongs, including Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in The Imitation Game.
