Keira Knightley's former directors have come to the defense of the star after filmmaker John Carney criticized her acting.
Carney directed the Oscar-nominee in the music-themed 2013 film Begin Again, but in a revealing interview with Britain's The Independent newspaper over the weekend, he slammed Knightley for her alleged diva behaviour and lack of serious acting skills.
"Keira has an entourage that follow her everywhere so it's very hard to get any real work done," he told the publication. "And as much as I tried to make it work I think that she didn't quite come out as a guitar-playing singer-songwriter. I learned that I'll never make a film with supermodels again."
He added, "I don't want to rubbish Keira, but you know it's hard being a film actor and it requires a certain level of honesty and self-analysis that I don't think she's ready for yet and I certainly don't think she was ready for on that film."
His comments irked both fans and her former collaborators, including Mark Romanek, who directed Knightley in 2010 thriller Never Let Me Go.
He took to Twitter on Monday to defend the actress, writing, "My experience with #keiraknightley was utterly spectacular on every level. I have no clue what this guy is talking about."
He ended the post with pointed words aimed at Carney, adding, "#arrogants--thead".

My recollection of #keiraknightley's "entourage" was that her mum visited the set one day for an hour or two.

Meanwhile, Lorene Scafaria, the writer/director of Knightley's 2012 film Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, echoed Romanek's statement.
"I agree with Mark," she posted. "Keira was a joy to work w/ (with). Present & easy & really, really good at her job. Just lovely."

Keira Knightley promises 'theatrical' Anna (INDEPENDENT IE)
Keira Knightley has revealed that Joe Wright's adaptation of Anna Karenina is set to be "a very different take" on the Russian classic.
The actress plays the title role in the film, which is set for release later this year.
Speaking in Los Angeles at the world premiere of her latest film, Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, the actress admitted Anna Karenina was an ambitious project to tackle.
"It's absolutely not an easy book to adapt," she said. "But I think Tom Stoppard did an extraordinary job with the adaptation.
"It's a very different take on it, it's very theatrical, I'm very excited about it."

Keira Knightley steals apocalyptic comedy from Steve Carell BY JOE WILLIAMS > Post-Dispatch Film Critic > joewilliams@post-dispatch.com > 314-340-8344 | Posted: Friday, June 22, 2012 1:15 am STL TODAY
"This is the way the world ends," poet T.S. Eliot wrote. "Not with a bang but a whimper."
For reasons that are so obvious that storytellers have stopped mentioning them, the apocalypse is all the rage. Survivalists are counting the days until the rapture or the Mayan meltdown, and last year we had two separate movies about astronomical annihilation ("Another Earth" and "Melancholia").
An asteroid is the off-screen bad guy in "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," but the problem with this nice-try comedy is the nice-guy protagonist. Steve Carell, as a whimpering white suburbanite who hunts for a lost love while the clock runs down, is a black hole that sucks the satirical juice from the movie.
Carell is Dodge, an East Coast insurance agent whose wife leaves him on the eve of destruction. While his yuppie friends fornicate and snort heroin (a wickedly funny touch), Dodge wonders what ever happened to his first love, Olivia.
As the faceless masses finally make a cameo appearance in his neighborhood, Dodge stages a hasty getaway with Penny (Keira Knightley), the free spirit from the apartment downstairs, who has a car and an armload of vintage vinyl to wile away the hours.

Keira Knightley Hits 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' In Armor Dress (HUFF POST)
We know Keira Knightley is British and all, but since when did she start dressing like a medieval knight?
We're only kidding -- sort of. The "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World" star brought her charming accent over to "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" to chat about soccer ("football," if you will), her new movie and that uber sexy Interview cover.
Knightley, of course, was utterly self-effacing when Fallon showed off the dramatic Interview shoot -- "It's Photoshop," she joked. But that 3-D dress, with strips of silver beading covering sheer black sleeves, was as real as they come, straight off the Valentino Fall 2012 runway.

Keira Knightley May Star in Lasse Hallström’s SAFE HAVEN (COLLIDER)
by Matt Goldberg Posted:March 15th, 2012 at 11:08 am
Keira Knightley is in early talks to star in Lasse Hallström‘s adaptation of Nicholas Sparks‘ novel Safe Haven. Knightley would play a young woman with a dark past who arrives in a small North Carolina town, and reluctantly begins a relationship with a widowed store owner and his two children, and a friendship with her plainspoken neighbor.
Hallström is currently finishing up work on his Swedish crime thriller The Hypnotist, and Twitch reports that he plans to start shooting Safe Haven in May. Safe Haven is Hallström’s second time working from a Sparks novel having previously directed 2010′s Dear John. Knightley will next be seen this summer in the apocalyptic romantic comedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and this fall in Joe Wright‘s adaptation of Anna Karenina

Tom Hardy, Keira Knightly and Denzel Washington on Jonathan Ross Show (Metro)
The Jonathan Ross Show turned to big screen talent to up its game
TV review:
This weekend's Jonathan Ross Show had already received its fair share of publicity thanks to Tom Hardy's embarrassment - but ultimately it was Keira Knightley's vodka-drinking antics that stole his thunder. Related

Given the pre-show publicity over whether or not Tom Hardy was 'acting', this edition of the Jonathan Ross Show had the potential to become a real talking point - since it featured the interview in which the Batman star 'pretended' to get all huffy over some 14-year-old Big Breakfast footage.
Ultimately, however - and, we, have to say, not entirely unpredictably - the whole thing proved a bit of an anti-climax - not least because firstly we all knew it was going to happen, thus removing the element of surprise - and secondly because the genial star was upstaged by Keira Knightley and her vodka-swilling antics.
Even she was taken aback by Wossy's offer of a drink - but regardless whether it loosened her tongue, she was certainly among the more entertaining guests of the night.

Keria Knightley: Steve Carell Vs. The End of the World (She Knows)
What would you do if you had three weeks to live?
Feb 10, 2012 4:05 PM by Jenna Milly
In the quirky comedy about finding a friend when the world is literally crashing down around you, Steve Carell and Keira Knightley make for a comedic odd couple in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.
Carell plays Dodge, an office worker who finds out -- along with the rest of the world – about the demise of the planet. Panicked, emotional and completely out of their minds, everyone else responds in stride.
Dodge on the other hand seems to have a deadpan approach to this looming disaster. He was lonely before he found out the earth was being destroyed, and he's lonely now.
