'When Downton calls, you jump!': Actress MyAnna Buring is on the fast track to fame

Quirky Scandinavian prettiness, a Kylie-sized frame and pale blue eyes that flash with mischief – there’s something pixie-like about MyAnna Buring, star of Ripper Street and Downton Abbey. And it’s not just her looks that are impish. ‘OK, I should just admit it,’ she grins. ‘I follow Matthew Macfadyen around – I’m his stalker. I thought about it for years, wondering what was the best way to get close to him and decided to become an actor myself to try to work with him…’

She has played alongside Macfadyen three times: in 2010 Bafta-winning Channel 4 drama Any Human Heart; in BBC1’s Ripper Street, in which he plays a Victorian detective to her brothel owner; and in forthcoming comedy flick Epic, a yarn about a UK filmmaker attempting to make a movie in a fictional post-Soviet country he’s never heard of. ‘Matthew is such good fun – we’re always laughing. It’s nice to work with him a lot because you develop a rapport. Because it’s an intense working environment, it’s important to be surrounded by people who add to the enjoyment of the job.’

At 34, MyAnna (pronounced Mee-Anna, her first and middle names joined together) is thoroughly enjoying her job right now – and who could blame her? A big hit, Ripper Street is back for a second series. She had a role in last year’s Downton Abbey Christmas special, and her character has now been brought back for series four. She’s been part of an era-defining teen franchise, appearing as vampire Tanya Denali in the last two Twilight movies, but also has indie cred, playing the female lead in Ben Wheatley’s acclaimed British horror film Kill List. And you might also recognise her from recent TV shows including White Heat, Blackout and The Poison Tree… No prizes for guessing who hasn’t had time to go on holiday for three years.

‘I’ve just come out of an incredibly busy time,’ she says. ‘Work started to get really interesting when I hit 30. When people say, “Oh God, I’m 30”, I say, “What are you worrying about? It’s the BEST time.”’ Her joie de vivre comes through loud and clear; MyAnna is fantastic company, fizzing with energy and ideas. She speaks eloquently about her job, without – as many of her peers are prone to – making pompous pronouncements on her ‘craft’. And she may look like a wide-eyed ingĂ©nue, but she brims with a decidedly grown-up confidence that starts to make sense when she talks about her formative years.

She was born in Sweden to a surgeon father and an economist mother but spent her childhood in the Middle East, where her father worked. This meant travelling between continents from the age of five, so the nomadic, unpredictable life of an actor suits her well. ‘The idea of getting on a plane and going away for six months at a moment’s notice is very exciting.’ She credits her time in the Middle East with giving her a fresh perspective on life. ‘I learned to be less judgmental. I think when we grow up in the West, we have this idea that our way is the way, and it’s not – that point of view isn’t the only one you can have.’

Returning to Europe in her mid-teens, while her parents remained in Oman, she went to boarding school in Oxford and has lived in the UK since. She identifies herself as a Brit – when I dither between calling her a British actress or a Swedish one, she swiftly plumps for the former, saying, ‘Britain is where I’ve lived most of my life, where I’ve worked all my life, where my home is.’ And she certainly sounds entirely Home Counties (bar the occasional Scandinavian ‘for sure’).

It was at school in Oxford that she began pondering a career in front of the camera. ‘I was always a bit of a performing monkey and involved in putting on plays at school, but I had no idea how to go about being an actor. No one in my family did that. Drama school was an alien concept.’

Nevertheless, she went on to study drama at Bristol University, setting up a theatre company with classmates and taking their shows to Edinburgh in the summers, before applying to Lamda and winning a three-year scholarship. On graduating, she had bit-parts in TV shows such as Casualty before getting her break – a lead role in the well-received British horror movie The Descent, in which a group of young women go caving (what could possibly go wrong?).

MyAnna Buring

Now hitting her career stride, MyAnna can handle herself – and anything that her burgeoning celebrity throws at her – with aplomb. I note that, although she’s all over our screens, she manages to fly under the radar as a celebrity. ‘I don’t stumble out of clubs at two in the morning, snogging five people at once,’ she grins. ‘It’s a conscious thing.’ While filming the Twilight movies Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2 (playing the head of a coven of ‘vegetarian’ vampires), she observed the media hoopla around her co-stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s relationship. ‘I wouldn’t wish that invasion of privacy on anyone. It becomes hard to leave your hotel or house and you have to develop this incredibly thick skin,’ she says. ‘The heads of our banks and the people running our country – the people who make decisions that affect us all – deserve that kind of scrutiny. You don’t deserve it for being an actor.’

Chivalry is so not dead!

And we are thanking Daniel Radcliffe today for proving that to us.

The actor presented last night at the Oscars alongside a newly injured Kristen Stewart, and he was willing to go to great lengths to ease her pain.

Daniel revealed just what kind of a gentleman he is as he admitted he didn’t want KStew to have to hobble her way on stage:

“I felt so bad. I just wanted to pick her up, put her in my armsand carry her onto the stage.”

Awww, love it!

Tom Hardy Tops List Of 2012's Biggest Movie Stars (CINEMA BLEND)

Author: Sean O'Connell

Who were the biggest stars of 2012? Well, a lot of that depends on what your definition of “biggest” would be.

Few people could argue that they had a bigger year than Jennifer Lawrence, who had one smash hit in The Hunger Games and is closing off the year with Oscar buzz for her performance in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. At the same time, Kristen Stewart closed off her massive Twilight franchise with Breaking Dawn: Part 2, had a summer hit with Snow White and the Huntsman, generated a few critical raves for On the Road and even notched her own tabloid scandal thanks to an ill-timed kiss with her Huntsman director.

Both ladies make a new list released by IMDB, which tallied its STARmeter rankings for the year to simply see which celebrities marked the most page views. Critical assessments and box-office numbers weren’t important. This was just cyber-interest generated by IMDB users, and their No. 1 selection – Tom Hardy – was somewhat surprising to me.

Robert Pattinson Turns the Tables on K-Stew. Finally. BY: Shannon Keirnan (YIDIO)

First the "Breaking Dawn" star is cheated on, and his philandering girlfriend issues a lackluster apology to the star via public announcement.

If you’ve ever followed the Pattinson/Stewart relationship, you know exactly how much the poor boy loves airing his yummy personal laundry to the public.

So when rumors swirled that the sad-faced, cuckolded actor had high-tailed it back to mother England to lick his wounds, people clucked and shook their head and baked the poor creature a casserole, because he’ll probably need some comfort food in his time of need.

Well, it’s looking like there’s a little more to the story than that.

Apparently, while Pattinson was relaxing in England, ye olde U-Haul was driving on up to the mansion shared by Pattinson and his “Snow White and the Huntsman” ex. And it wasn’t Pattinson’s bongs and hair mousse that were getting packed on out.

Since Pattinson owns the home the two were shacking up in, the sexy vampire has apparently decided that, rather than run off and admit defeat, the best course of action is to evict the pasty actress from his property.

And, true English gentleman that he is, not only did he force the sullen-faced lady to gather her stuff and move along, he reportedly had her car towed out of their driveway and deposited unceremoniously across from a McDonalds.

Just in case she wasn’t taking the hint.

Why Is Robert Pattinson Staying With Reese Witherspoon? 1 day ago by Laura Case (WET PAINT)

They’re more than just former co-stars. They’re friends.

Amid the media firestorm over his girlfriend Kristen Stewart’s photographed dalliance with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director, Robert Pattinson is reportedly crashing at Reese Witherspoon’s swanky ranch in Ojai. But why is Rob staying with his newly remarried, very pregnant Water for Elephants co-star?

According to RadarOnline, Reese identifies with Rob’s plight and wants to be there for him. A source tells the site, “Reese went through a very public cheating scandal herself when Ryan Phillippe went outside their marriage and hooked up with Abbie Cornish, so her first thought when she heard about Kristen and Rob was to reach out to him and make sure he was okay.”

She looks just like Bella and Edward! First picture of half-human half-vampire Cullen child released ahead of Breaking Dawn 2 By SARAH FITZMAURICE (MAIL ON LINE)

Fans of the Twilight series have been eagerly awaiting the final installment with particular excitement surrounding just how Bella and Edward's child will look.

Now the first snaps of the half-human half-vampire daughter have been released, which will no-doubt send Twi-hards into a frenzy.

Kristen Stewart and her on and off screen beau Robert Pattinson have posed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly along with Mackenzie Foy, who takes on the role of Renesmee.

The 11-year-old actress, who looks remarkably like the two actors, is seen holding hands with Kristen, while Robert places a protective hand on her arm.

With her fiery auburn hair tumbling around her shoulders and pale luminous skin it is easy to believe Mackenzie is the couple's child.

The uncanny resemblance between Mackenzie and Kristen was not lost on the 22-year-old star.

Snow White and the Huntsman: Film Review 2:40 AM PDT 5/31/2012 by Todd McCarthy (THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER)

The Bottom Line
Strikingly designed and cast makeover of the children's tale into a straight-line, romance-free action odyssey.

A bold rethinking of a familiar old story and striking design elements are undercut by a draggy mid-section and undeveloped characters in Snow White and the Huntsman. After the campy family farce of Mirror, Mirror, this second revisionist take of the year on the 19th century fairy tale strides out deadly serious and in full armor, not to mention with more costume changes for Charlize Theron than a Lady Gaga concert. Designed to appeal to teen and young adult girls and guys, this muscular PG-13-rated action adventure conspicuously lacks romance but should get a good box office ride on the shoulders of stars Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth.

The teeing up is dramatic, to say the least, giving a swift and dire account of the malevolent usurpation of the throne of a rugged waterfront kingdom by Ravenna (Theron), a stunning blonde who infiltrates from enemy territory, bewitches the widowed monarch and dispatches him on their wedding night. The king's daughter is kept prisoner in a high tower until her maturity, at which point the queen's mirror, in this case a giant golden plate that morphs into a molten statue, informs her that the status of fairest in the land has shifted to Snow White (Stewart), who represents the queen's greatest threat as well as her salvation.

‘Twilight’ Opens as No. 1 Film With $139.5M

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1,” the fourth movie in the teen vampire series, opened as the top weekend film in U.S. and Canadian theaters, collecting $139.5 million for Summit Entertainment LLC.

“Happy Feet Two,” an animated comedy from Time Warner Inc. (TWX)’s Warner Bros. studio, debuted in second place with $22 million, researcher Hollywood.com Box-Office said today in an e-mailed statement.

Sales for “Breaking Dawn” marked the second-best three-day opening for a “Twilight” movie, falling short of the $142.8 million debut for the second film, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” according to Hollywood.com. “Breaking Dawn Part 1,” made for about $110 million, was expected to have weekend sales of $148 million, the estimate of researcher Box Office Mojo.

The “Twilight” series is scheduled to end a year from now with “Breaking Dawn Part 2.” The first three movies in the series, based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer, have hadworldwide sales of $1.8 billion, according to Box Office Mojo.

The all-time record for a three-day opening is $169.2 million generated in July by the final “Harry Potter” movie, according to Hollywood.com.

In “Breaking Dawn Part I,” heroine Bella Swan, played byKristen Stewart, marries vampire Edward Cullen, portrayed by Robert Pattinson. She becomes pregnant and is targeted for death by werewolves. Taylor Lautner returns to the series to co-star as Jacob Black, whose unrequited love for Bella is tested by his commitment to his werewolf clan.

‘Happy Feet Two’

In “Happy Feet Two,” tap-dancing penguin Mumble is vexed by his son Erik’s lack of rhythm. The situation is worsens when Erik runs away and the penguin colony is isolated by shifting ice. The first film, “Happy Feet,” had global sales of $384.3 million. “Happy Feet Two” features the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

Among returning films, the action-adventure film“Immortals,” from Relativity Media LLC, dropped to third from first with $12.3 million in sales. In the film, a stone mason in ancient Greece gets help from the gods to battle a ruthless king set upon expanding his empire. The movie stars Henry Cavill,Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke.

Box office: "Breaking Dawn" on track for $140 million opening

Wed Nov 16, 2011 9:35pm EST

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Sensing that end is nigh for their favorite vampire romance franchise, members of Team Edward and Team Jacob will flock to the movie theaters this weekend to see "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1."
But will tween ticket-buyers turn out in enough force to propel the Summit sequel to record numbers?

It's unlikely, but even if the sequel falls short of those lofty marks, it still stands to sink its teeth into an awful lot of green. The first installment in the two-part finale is on pace to bank $140 million this weekend in 4,061 theaters.

Also opening wide this weekend: Warner Bros.' animated sequel "Happy Feet Two"; Fox Searchlight Oscar hopeful "The Descendants," meanwhile, will expand to 27 theaters Friday from the five it opened up with Wednesday.

"Breaking Dawn's" projections fall short of the $169 million all-time record set by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" last summer, but should be roughly in line with the franchise's highest grossing opener, the $140 million posted by 2009's "New Moon."

The studio is feeling more conservative, projecting an opening weekend on the order of $125 million.

Summit did not release the number of theaters that plan to host midnight screenings, but studio executives told TheWrap that the movie may be a 12 a.m. record breaker.

It could easily surpass the $43.5 million benchmark set by "Deathly Hallows Part 2" in late night showings.

If Twi-hards are particularly eager to catch the latest entry in the vampire romance saga -- a gorier and sexier affair that includes a trip to the altar, a deflowering and a grisly demon child birth -- it may shatter the single day record of $92 million set by the bespectacled wizard.

"Those midnight showings are where they always excel, so they're almost certain to get the single day gross record," a rival studio executive told TheWrap. "The question is can they sustain it? Do they get all those girls out and then fall off a cliff."

Making those heady numbers all the loftier, Summit produced the tentpole film at a relatively modest budget.

After tax rebates, "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" cost the studio $110 million, much of it in cast salaries.

As TheWrap reported exclusively last spring, a prospectus given to potential investors revealed that "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" cost $127.5 million. According to those documents, Summit had only has $38.4 million at risk thanks to foreign pre-sales.

The bad news is that "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" will likely suck the blood out of the rest of the box office.

Box office watchers predict that "Happy Feet Two" will fall short of the $41.5 million opening enjoyed by the first film.

The dancing penguins sequel is predicted to rack up $30 million over the weekend in 3,606 locations, 2,800 of which are 3D compatible. The Warner Brothers film cost $140 million to produce.

Also feeling the "Twilight" burn will be last weekend's box office champion, "The Immortals." Relativity's sword and sandals epic should see its numbers fall over 50 percent to $17 million, if predictions prove right.

In addition to Arctic creatures and vampires, a decidedly human drama will enter the marketplace. Fox Searchlight's "The Descendants" opened Wednesday in five New York and Los Angeles theaters. It will expand to 11 markets, including Boston, San Francisco and Dallas, over the weekend, bringing its theater count to 27.

The critically adored film should rack up around $30,000. Starring George Clooney, the comedy-drama centers on a man trying to reconnect with his daughters while his wife lies in a coma. It marks writer and director Alexander Payne's first film behind the camera since 2004's "Sideways."

"It's a good story that people can really identify with and the performances are outstanding," Sheila DeLoach, Fox Searchlight's executive VP of distribution, told TheWrap. "We're really thrilled to see the reviews come in. That is a big plus to the film and helps its box office."

Kristen Stewart Is Offered Role In Live-Action Version of Akira, as well as Keira Knightley

Akira offers Kristen Stewart a role in the film

Kristen Stewart has been offered the lead female role in Akira. Twitch reports that the Twilight actress has been been offered a role in the film being directed by Jaume Collet-Sera. She would star alongside the already attached Garrett Hedlund, Helena Bonham Carter and Gary Oldman. Keira Knightley and Ezra Miller have also been offered roles, with Knightley also offered the role of Kei and Miller offered the role of Kaneda. The film is in the adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic manga. If she accepts the role then she would play Kei, “a young medium who becomes the love interest for Kaneda (Hedlund)”

The film depicts a dystopian Neo-Tokyo in 2019. The plot focuses on biker Tetsuo Shima and his psychic powers and the biker gang member Shotaro Kaneda, who tries to prevent Tetsuo from releasing the dangerous psychic Akira.

Kristin Stewart looks really good as a different kind of Snow White in the Snow White and the Huntsman film and she has reached acclaim outside the Twilight films with movies like Meet the Rileys, Adventureland and The Runaways. I think she is a solid actress and not knowing anything about Akira, I think she would be good in the film in that role. I am excited to see this movie considering I do not know much about it or the series it seems like a very interesting plot. I just hope it has a great script.

Robert Pattinson planned ‘Twilight’ premiere walk out to avoid sex scenes

Robert Pattinson planned to walk out of the premiere of the latest “Twilight” movie on Monday so he wouldn’t have to sit through the film’s sex scenes.

The British actor joined his co-stars Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart to walk the black carpet at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for the premiere of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.”
However, Pattinson told reporters he planned to leave the screening early to avoid embarrassment over the saucy scenes he filmed with Stewart.

When asked how he would react to first public showing of the footage, Pattinson told “Access Hollywood,” “I’ll probably have left.”

Fans of the vampire franchise began camping outside the venue last week to secure their spots for the big night, and the author of the books behind the movie series, Stephenie Meyer, showed her support by handing out signed copies of her Breaking Dawn novel to devotees ahead of the premiere.

Meyer revealed she was impressed by the friendliness of fans at the campsite, gushing, “They’re really kind to each other, which I love, and all very excited, and looking pretty good for having slept on the street.”

The stars of the film were also amazed by the devotion of the campers, with Lautner insisting he couldn’t bring himself to sleep on the street – not even for a meeting with his favorite football player, Tom Brady.

He says, “Honestly, no (I couldn’t do it). The closest thing I would do it for is for my favorite sports team or my favorite athlete. I would not camp out a week. Tom Brady – you’re not worth it. I’m sorry! I love you, though.”
