Patrick Stewart keeps a bag of James McAvoy's hair at home in his safe

THE TELEGRAPH
 Danny Boyle
12 MAY 2016 • 1:00PM

As far as keepsakes go, it is certainly among the more unusual. But when Sir Patrick Stewart asked for a bag of James McAvoy's hair, he was not joking.

The veteran - and hairless - actor, who is well-known for his off-beat humour, now keeps the younger star's locks in a safe at his home.

McAvoy, who plays the younger version of Sir Patrick's Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, had to shave his head for the new Apocalypse film.

The 37-year-old took a video call with 75-year-old Sir Patrick while his hair has being cut ahead of filming, so he could "pass on the baldy baton".

During the FaceTime call, Sir Patrick asked if he could have some of McAvoy's hair to keep for himself.

And the director duly obliged, bagging it up and sending it to Sir Patrick, who now keeps it in a safe - which McAvoy confessed he finds "kind of creepy".

McAvoy revealed the gesture as he spoke on The Graham Norton Show about finally going bald for the new Apocalypse film.

He said: "I shaved (my head) months before to see what it would look like and turned up on the shoot with about two month's growth and they were like, 'What have you done?' and I had to have the first of 17-hour hair extensions sessions.

"When we finally shaved it off we decided to FaceTime Patrick Stewart so he could pass on the baldy baton.

"We though it was funny when he asked if he could have some of the hair, but it turns out the director bagged it up for him and he now has all my hair at home in a safe, which is kind of creepy."

Jennifer Lawrence - who plays the blue-tinged, femme fatale Mystique - last year revealed that X-Men: Apocalypse will be her last in the superhero franchise.

Jennifer Lawrence Will Romance Michael Fassbender in the Next X-Men Movie

VANITY FAIR HOLLYWOOD
BY KATEY RICH

BOTH © 20TH CENTURY FOX FILM CORP./EVERETT COLLECTION.

Winning an Oscar and being part of two mega-franchises at the same time isn’t easy, even for the seemingly super-human Jennifer Lawrence. Though she remains front and center of the Hunger Games franchise, Lawrence’s role as Mystique in the new X-Men films is more of a supporting part, and in last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past Mystique played a crucial but relatively small role, seemingly allowing Lawrence to take a step back (or rush off to another set).

That won’t happen with the next X-Men adventure, it seems. In an article documenting just how busy Lawrence will be in the next few months, The Hollywood Reporter says that X-Men: Apocalypse is “being crafted” around Lawrence’s Mystique and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, including a romance between the two of them. Sparks have flown between the characters since the first film, and the last one featured a memorable, intimate conversation between them in a cramped phone booth, so it makes sense for these two crazy mutants to take things to the next level.

‘X-Men’ Premieres in New York Without Director Bryan Singer

X-Men Days of Future Past cast

Bryan Singer, the director of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” skipped the world premiere of his movie on Saturday night, following the recent filings of two lawsuits that allege he sexually abused underage boys.

But the cast of the Twentieth Century Fox summer tentpole — including Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart and Michael Fassbender — packed plenty of star power into New York’s Javits Convention Center. The live-streaming premiere also invited hundreds of “X-Men” fans inside, who waved posters and action figures and shrieked as the actors posed for selfies.

When the subject of their director would come up, the red carpet attendees either deflected questions or vaguely defended him — as an artist. The studio’s chief Jim Gianopulos thanked Singer in his introductory remarks, making no mention of the scandal or his absence.

Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Xavier, recalled how Singer created a strong foundation as a director with the first “X-Men” movie in 2000. “Well, he is a visionary,” Stewart said. “He is a serious filmmaker. He knows the craft inside out. He knows what he wants, although sometimes it could be a roundabout process to get there.”

Asked if he’s reached out to the director, Stewart responded: “We are in touch all the time, through email mostly.” How is Singer doing? “He’s great!” Stewart responded.

Christian Bale Steals Art, Robert De Niro's Accent, and Dances with Jennifer Lawrence in First American Hustle Trailer

VANITY FAIR
by Julie Miller

Contrary to what the first image from American Hustle told us yesterday, the star of the upcoming David O. Russell drama is not Bradley Cooper's immaculate tight curls. (Although they do get an intimate scene with the hundreds of tiny pink sponge rollers we previously mentioned.) Judging by the trailer, available below, the true star of the film is Christian Bale, a Bronx con man who sounds like Robert De Niro, specializes in stolen art, and is two-timing his loose-cannon wife (Jennifer Lawrence) with the most subtly coiffed woman in the entire movie (Amy Adams)—until, it appears, she gets her hands on Cooper's rollers.

Jennifer Lawrence Nicholas Hoult Dating Again? UPDATE: 'Hunger Games' Actress 'Getting a Lot Closer' with 'X-Men' Boyfriend on Set BY Jon Niles, Mstarz reporter , Mstarz reporter | Jun 21, 2013 09:45 AM EDT

Nicholas Hoult & Jennifer Lawrence

Last week some photos were spreading around the Internet, showing Silver Linings Playbook actress Jennifer Lawrence and Warm Bodies actor Nicholas Hoult hanging out together. The two are currently in Montreal filming X-Men: Days of Future Past, so it makes sense that they would be spending time together.

But the two young stars used to date so a lot of people are hoping that the two are rekindling their romance that ended earlier in 2013 due to busy schedules. It looks like their schedules have brought them back together though!

22-year-old Academy Award-winning actress Lawrence met the 23-year-old British actor on the set of X-Men: First Class. They dated for about 2 years before deciding to go their separate ways. The two remained friends and rumors started to mount with the announcement of this super hero sequel.

The two apparently were not trying to cool these rumors either, as they dined together in the Spring of 2013 and then started spending more time together while filming in Montreal. A few weeks ago, Nicholas accompanied Jen on a visit her brother and his family two weekends ago.

Adele Tells New Bestie Jennifer Lawrence To MOVE To Her Notting Hill Neighborhood! (PEREZ HILTON)

adele jennifer lawrence best friend london house notthing hill

It only makes sense that EGOT-pursuer Adele and the World's current crush Jennifer Lawrence have united in their awesomeness…

They are both supreme beings who obviously excel at their crafts, AND they both happen to be sweeter than buttercream frosting!

In fact, Adele is SO taken with Jennifer that she's encouraging the actress to MOVE to a house near her home in Notting Hill when the X-Men sequel starts filming in London later this year!

One supposed source reveals:

"Adele’s been hanging around with Jennifer Lawrence since the Oscars. Jennifer’s set to come to London later this year to film an X-Men movie and Adele’s recommending she move to Notting Hill, where she has a house."

SO excited to witness this intimidating friendship blossom into the most beautiful of flowers!
Perhaps they can even team up on an (inevitably) award-winning movie!

Lainey Gossip have got their mitts on these two new images from the set of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ featuring Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Peter Dinklage in their 70s garb. While nothing has been confirmed, the ‘Game of Thrones’ Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning actor has been rumored to be playing the villainous Bolivar Trask in the film. ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ the seventh installment in the ‘X-Men’ film series, started filming last month in Montreal, Canada. It will be the first film in the ‘X-Men’ film series to be filmed in 3D.

With director Bryan Singer merging past and present ‘X-Men’ actors for ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ the director has announced that Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Halle Berry (Storm), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus) and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) will be joining the film – which is ostensibly a sequel to ‘X-Men: First Class,’ but will prominently feature actors from the first ‘X-Men’ trilogy. Additionally, Hugh Jackman will be playing Wolverine again, and Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are to reprise their roles as Magneto and Professor X, with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy returning to play younger versions of the same characters in the film. Seeds of a tie-in between the trilogies were sown when Jackman cameoed as Wolverine in ‘X-Men: First Class.’ Jennifer Lawrence, Omar Sy, Fan Bingbing, Booboo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters and Nicholas Hoult have also been confirmed to star.

Sir Michael Caine - Michael Caine Will Retire At 90 (CONTACT MUSIC)

The Italian Job star previously insisted he would step away from the movie business when he turned 80 in March (13), but he decided to abandon the plan and carry on making films.

Caine is adamant he wants to win another Oscar by the time he retires, and has given himself 10 more years to do it.

When asked whether he is planning to try for a third Academy Award, Caine tells Parade.com, "Yeah, I'll have another go and then retire when I'm 90."

He also reveals he wants to work with recent Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, who picked up a Best Actress trophy for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

Martin Freeman: The Hobbit actor was named best hero, while Silver Linings Playbook continued its awards season domination with three wins (RADIO TIMES)

Susanna Lazarus
11:23 AM, 15 April 2013

He may play the sidekick to BBC's dynamic detective Sherlock, but Martin Freeman's Hollywood breakthrough as The Hobbit's Bilbo Baggins has won him an MTV Movie Award for best action hero. Voted for by fans on social media sites Twitter and Instagram, the star of the Lord of the Rings prequel (who was absent from the Californian ceremony) scored an impressive 1,637,179 votes, beating off competition from Snow White and The Huntsman's Kristen Stewart, Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises), and Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man in The Avengers.

Another absentee on the night was Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence who landed the coveted prize for best female performance for her role in award-winning rom-com Silver Linings Playbook. The film also triumphed in the best kiss and best male performance categories which were accepted by Bradley Cooper – although his co-star's no-show was the subject of controversy throughout the evening. Officially put down to a "scheduling conflict", it saw MTV facing a last minute scramble to rearrange a planned sketch with host Rebel Wilson, with even the network's website admitting to an "audibly upset room" in reaction to Lawrence's absence.

Martin Freeman wins Empire Award best actor for performance in The Hobbit (THE INDEPENDENT)

Martin Freeman was the epitome of modesty as he overcame star competition to win best actor at the Jameson Empire Film Awards tonight.

“It's possible that my performance was not the best if the year,” he said of his performance in The Hobbit. “but I'll take it.”

Similar modesty came when Dame Helen Mirren was named an Empire “legend”. “I feel more of a leg-over than a legend,” she quipped. “I have been more in my career.”

Jennifer Lawrence won best actress and Sam Mendes was named both best director and the “inspiration” awards, held in the Grosvenor House Hotel.

Martin Freeman, Eddie Redmayne land MTV Movie Award nomination (RADIO TIMES)

Susanna Lazarus
11:26 AM, 06 March 2013

Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained and Seth MacFarlane's Ted lead this year's nominations for the MTV Movie Awards 2013, with seven nods apiece, including the coveted prize for Movie of the Year.

Jennifer Lawrence's Oscar-winning role in Silver Linings Playbook has also been recognized  with the actress receiving nods for Best Kiss, Best Musical Moment, Best On-Screen Duo with Bradley Cooper and Best Scared-As-S**t Performance for House at the End of the Street.

But rivaling her in that final category - that's Best Scared-As-S**t Performance - is Sherlock's very own Martin Freeman, who has picked up a nomination for his portrayal of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It's the only category the film is listed for.

Other notable nominees are British actor Eddie Redmayne, who has been recognized for his Best Breakthrough Performance in Les Misérables. He will compete against nine-year-old Beasts of the Southern Wild actress Quevenzhané Wallis, Life of Pi's Suraj Sharma and Rebel Wilson.

Oscars 2013: Daniel Day-Lewis collects record third Oscar with a smile Lincoln star says he needs to 'lie down for a couple of years' as he dismisses attempts to label him greatest ever actor as 'daft' Maev Kennedy and Catherine Shoard The Guardian, Monday 25 February 2013 17.43 EST

Long after the Californian sun rose, the Oscar winners and losers were waking up after a night of loud applause and louder frocks, hilarious acceptance speeches and dire jokes.

As universally predicted, Daniel Day-Lewis took the Oscar for best actor for his towering performance in Lincoln, and also enters the record books as the first male actor to be a third-time victor, after winning for My Left Foot in 1990 and There Will Be Blood in 2008.

Day-Lewis is sometimes seen as a remote and slightly chilly figure, renowned for his obsessive preparation and for remaining in character throughout the filming – hard on his wife, the actor and director Rebecca Miller, given that the 16th president of the United States had a notoriously difficult relationship with his wife, who spent time in a mental hospital after his death.

"Since we got married 16 years ago, my wife Rebecca has lived with some very strange men," he told the audience. "Luckily she's the versatile one of the family and she's been the perfect companion to all of them."

Day-Lewis also won the audience accolade for the best joke when he insisted that Meryl Streep, presenter of his Oscar, had been Steven Spielberg's first choice to play Abraham Lincoln, and in return he himself had been destined to play Margaret Thatcher.

Backstage after his win, he said he could not think of anyone else he urgently wants to play. "I need to lie down for a couple of years. It's really hard to imagine doing anything after this." He dismissed any attempt to label him the greatest actor of all time as "daft".
