‘X-Men’ Premieres in New York Without Director Bryan Singer

Bryan Singer, the director of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” skipped the world premiere of his movie on Saturday night, following the recent filings of two lawsuits that allege he sexually abused underage boys.

But the cast of the Twentieth Century Fox summer tentpole — including Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart and Michael Fassbender — packed plenty of star power into New York’s Javits Convention Center. The live-streaming premiere also invited hundreds of “X-Men” fans inside, who waved posters and action figures and shrieked as the actors posed for selfies.

When the subject of their director would come up, the red carpet attendees either deflected questions or vaguely defended him — as an artist. The studio’s chief Jim Gianopulos thanked Singer in his introductory remarks, making no mention of the scandal or his absence.

Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Xavier, recalled how Singer created a strong foundation as a director with the first “X-Men” movie in 2000. “Well, he is a visionary,” Stewart said. “He is a serious filmmaker. He knows the craft inside out. He knows what he wants, although sometimes it could be a roundabout process to get there.”

Asked if he’s reached out to the director, Stewart responded: “We are in touch all the time, through email mostly.” How is Singer doing? “He’s great!” Stewart responded.

Fox brought out the entire cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past for Comic-Con, sending Hall H into pandemonium.

Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, and several others were introduced to a roaring crowd that was screaming after every other sentence from the actors.

“I was in the halls this morning,” said McAvoy. “It’s amazing the passion you guys have so it’s awesome to be among you.

Every actor was given a moment to say a few words to the enthralled audience. McKellan scored major points from the crowd for getting a little political.

“I feel safe here now that you’ve gotten rid of Proposition 8," he said. Then, turning to Fassbender, he added, “Looking for a husband. It’s nice to meet you Michael."

After the panel, Singer tweeted a thank you to fans along with a photo of the cast.

While nothing has been confirmed, the ‘Game of Thrones’ Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning actor has been rumored to be playing the villainous Bolivar Trask in the film. ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ the seventh installment in the ‘X-Men’ film series, started filming last month in Montreal, Canada. It will be the first film in the ‘X-Men’ film series to be filmed in 3D.

With director Bryan Singer merging past and present ‘X-Men’ actors for ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ the director has announced that Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Halle Berry (Storm), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus) and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) will be joining the film – which is ostensibly a sequel to ‘X-Men: First Class,’ but will prominently feature actors from the first ‘X-Men’ trilogy. Additionally, Hugh Jackman will be playing Wolverine again, and Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are to reprise their roles as Magneto and Professor X, with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy returning to play younger versions of the same characters in the film. Seeds of a tie-in between the trilogies were sown when Jackman cameoed as Wolverine in ‘X-Men: First Class.’ Jennifer Lawrence, Omar Sy, Fan Bingbing, Booboo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters and Nicholas Hoult have also been confirmed to star.

In a long line of news, behind-the-scenes images and teasers, director Bryan Singer has tweeted the above first image of James McAvoy on the set of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ as Charles Xavier/Professor X in his 1970s costume. Singer captioned the image with “#Serpico”, referencing the 1973 Sidney Lumet thriller which starred Al Pacino as NYPD officer Frank Serpico. ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ the seventh installment in the ‘X-Men’ film series, commenced filming last month in Montreal, Canada. "Everything that's happened since then, all the horror that's come to my family is all because I couldn't love a motherless child"

I loved this episode, which was written by Vanessa Taylor, who also wrote two of my favourite episodes of last season, Garden of Bones and The Old Gods and the New. It had everything that makes Game of Thrones so addictive: the adept juggling of a number of plotlines, subtle character development and brooding hints of trouble to come. It was also an episode largely concerned with alliances: Jaime and Brienne formed a tentative bond based on a mutual love of swordplay, Robb realised that northern loyalty may not be set in stone and Commander Mormont called on the increasingly shaky ties of the Night's Watch to keep Sam alive, literally forbidding him to die. Elsewhere Margaery took the first steps towards breaking Joffrey's bond with Cersei, Bran made some interesting new friends and Arya ran into the Brotherhood without Banners. Best of all, however, was the heart-rending conversation between Catelyn and Talisa, which started by showing us the younger woman's desperate desire to integrate herself with her mother-in-law and ended by revealing the depth of Catelyn's guilt.

"There's no need to be frightened, we're only women here"

Enter Diana Rigg doing her best Countess of Grantham. Olenna Tyrell, aka the Queen of Thorns, is one of my favourite characters in the books and Rigg's spiky, imperious performance was a delight. The Tyrells understand the importance of PR more than most characters playing the game – as Cersei pointedly told Joffrey: "Margaery dresses like a harlot for a reason. She married Renly for a reason" – and their tea party showed how adept they are at hiding behind pretty words. That said it was hard not to feel for poor Sansa as her wide-eyed dream of friendship was crushed by the realisation that it was all just politics, again.

Game Of Thrones Star Peter “Drunklage” Crashes Melissa McCarthy’s SNL by Meghan O'Keefe (@megsokay) (VH1)

Melissa McCarthy made her triumphant return to Saturday Night Live last night, but may have been eclipsed by a couple of well placed cameos. The Cold Open featured Bobby Moynihan‘s Kim Jong Un being joined by the actual Dennis Rodman and then Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage made an even bigger–and boozier–splash as Drunk Uncle’s brother in law, “Peter Drunklage”.

Still, the sketch of the night belonged to another guest star, Peter Dinklage. Movie stars and politicians alike often drop by Weekend Update, but Dinklage is the first Game of Thrones star, not to mention the first friend of Bobby Moynihan’s “Drunk Uncle” we’ve seen. Dinklage nailed his role and gave the most hilarious blog description in the history of the internet with the line, “You know what’s in my tumblr? Regret.”

Diana Rigg, Ciaran Hinds: 'Game of Thrones:' A Look at Season 3's New Faces and Characters (YAHOO)

The cast dishes on Ciaran Hinds, Diana Rigg, and (spoiler!) a giant arriving in Westeros this season.

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains storyline and character spoilers for the third season of "Game of Thrones."

With 27 series regulars and hundreds of guest stars, day players, and extras wandering in and out of Westeros and points beyond, keeping track of who's who on "Game of Thrones" is almost as big a feat as planning the Battle of Blackwater Bay. That task isn't going to get any easier when Season 3, which was shot by three units across five countries and promises plenty of fresh faces, begins March 31 on HBO.

Arguably, the most major addition to the cast was Ciaran Hinds. One, his resumé is as respected as Tywin Lannister's and almost as long as the feared coming winter, with "Rome," "Harry Potter," "Political Animals," and "There Will Be Blood" among the highlights. Two, he is portraying Mance Rayder, the ex-Night's Watchman who united 90 clans into one Wildling army currently moving in on the Wall. Rose Leslie (Ygritte) admitted at the junket last week in Beverly Hills to being a tad starstruck as "we've been watching him from a young age. Phenomenal."

Kit Harington, whose Jon Snow is trying to infiltrate the camp and must get Rayder to trust him, was also in awe. "He's a wonderful, wonderful man, and for someone who hadn't read the books and hadn't even seen the show when he joined and did his first few scenes, he nailed the character. That's the mark of the man's genius and genius of the writing."

Game of Thrones Season 3: Richard Madden The epic journey continues with season three (GULF NEWS)

There are times when the epic journey that his character, Robb Stark, has embarked on in Game of Thrones has felt a little similar to Richard Madden’s own experience working on the acclaimed HBO show. You might say that they’ve grown up together.

On screen, Madden plays Robb Stark who, when still a very young man, is chosen to lead his people after his father Ned (played by Sean Bean) is murdered at the hands of the Starks’ bitter enemies, The Lannisters.
The warring clans are at the heart of a brutal battle for control of Westeros, the fictional land created by George R. R. Martin in his brilliantly imagined series of best selling fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire. Martin has now completed five volumes and a further two are planned.

Madden was just 21 when he landed the much sought after role in the show, which is based on Martin’s books, and he recently completed the third season. He has, he says, come of age as an actor during that time, mirroring his character, Robb, who develops into an assured, charismatic leader as the story unfolds.

“I went from being a young actor getting a great part in a big show, which I didn’t expect, with more and more pressure being put on me as an actor, which I’ve really enjoyed and hopefully I’ve handled well and acquitted myself well,” he says

Winter came to New York on Wednesday (March 27), sweeping in on a cloud alongside "Game of Thrones" The Exhibition, a touring collection of Westeros memorabilia (think: Joffrey Baratheon's crossbow and Ned Stark's head!), co-sponsored by HBO and Time Warner Cable. And many of the realm's famous faces were also on hand at the VIP fete, where they gamely teased what fans of the epic should expect when season three premieres on Sunday.

For virginal Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) — whom we last saw north of the wall among the Wildlings — the opposite sex will pose the biggest challenge.


"I think it's resisting advances from a certain lady, and he's going to find that very hard," Harington told MTV News of his character's struggles this season. "[Also] convincing Mance Rayder and the Wildlings that he's a gentleman who wants to break free from the Night's Watch and be part of them. He's a spy in enemy territory, and he has to convince them that he is one of them and convince himself of that [which] can be ultimately quite confusing."

Meanwhile, half-sister Sansa (played by Sophie Turner) will try to evade her royal captor, former fiancé Joffrey.

HBO: 'Game of Thrones' piracy is a compliment by James Hibberd (EW)

How does HBO feel about having the most pirated show on TV?

Not too bad, apparently.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo spoke to EW about the rampant illegal downloading of the network’s fantasy hit drama Game of Thrones, which returns for its third season tonight.
The show’s second season was recently released to record-setting DVD sales for the network. But in December, Thrones topped another chart that is far more dubious — Thrones ranked as the most illegally downloaded TV series for 2012. “I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but it is a compliment of sorts,” Lombardo said. “The demand is there. And it certainly didn’t negatively impact the DVD sales. [Piracy is] something that comes along with having a wildly successful show on a subscription network.”

The show is currently, on a per-season basis, the network’s top money-earner despite widespread piracy of the show, the executive confirmed. “If you look at aggregate of international and DVD sales — which are the two revenue streams we look at since we’re not selling it domestically on another platform — yes, absolutely, in terms of shows we have on now,” Lombardo said.

In fact, one of Lombardo’s issues with piracy is a creative one. The executive expressed concern that illegal copies can be of poor quality when the Thrones team takes pride in lavishly producing the show. “One of my worries is about the copies [downloaders are] seeing,” Lombardo said. “The production values of this show are so incredible. So I’m hoping that in the purloined different generation of cuts that the show is holding up.”

Game Of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn has teased his character’s fractious trajectory in the fantasy serial’s upcoming third season, premiering March 31 on HBO.

In a chat with Access Hollywood, Flynn hinted that the love-in between his character Bronn and Peter Dinklage‘s Tyrion Lannister could meet stormy weather in the wake of Tyrion losing his job as Hand of the King to Tywin Lannister.

“He’s just about sticking it with Tyrion. He’s getting a bit frustrated, underpaid. He’s not got the position he had, but there’s still love between them. And some good, some nice scenes together, but not much.”

Corby-born actor Brendan Coyle has been nominated for an Emmy award.

The star of Downton Abbey has today been named in the supporting actor in a drama series category.

In competition with him for the accolade are Aaron Paul for Breaking Bad, Giancarlo Esposito for Breaking Bad, Jim Carter for Downton Abbey, Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones and Jared Harris for Mad Men.

But Coyle, who plays valet John Bates in the hugely popular period drama, is not the only nominee from Downton Abbey - fellow stars shortlisted for an award include Hugh Bonneville for lead actor in a drama series and Maggie Smith and Joanne Froggatt, who are competing against each other for the supporting actress in a drama series gong.

'Games of Thrones' cemented its status as one of the most popular shows on U.S. television on Sunday night (May 27, 2012), delivering an explosive episode which featured 'The Battle of Blackwater'. Fans of George R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' saga - on which the show is based - have been waiting for the epic dual for some time, and it didn't disappoint.

Lord Stannis, played by Stephen Dillane, sends his ships into battle, and his troops outnumber the royal fleet ten to one. However, the Lannister's have a trick up their sleeve, thanks to the savvy thinking of Lord Tyrion Lannister, played by Peter Dinklage. In one of the highlight exchanges from the episode, Tyrion tells Lord Varys, "I'm the captain of the ship, and if the ship goes down, I go with her", to which Varys replies, "That is good to hear, though I'm sure many captains say the same while their ship is afloat". The episode won unanimous praise on Twitter, with singer-songwriter Josh Groban saying, "The battle of blackwater is one of the single greatest things I've ever seen on TV. Bravo". ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 2 premiere: ‘There’s a king in every corner now’ By Sarah Anne Hughes (WASHINGTON POST)

“Game of Thrones” kicked off its second season with bloodshed, power struggles and struggles with power already obtained. With the death of King Robert Baratheon, everyone and his brother was trying to claim the right to the Iron Throne. The premiere caught us up on almost every major player who is vying to be king, as well as a handful of new characters. Here’s the rundown.


In King’s Landing: 
The episode opened on the world’s most terrible human, Joffrey Baratheon, celebrating his Name Day by being awful and trying to drown some poor guy by pouring wine down his throat. At his side: the suffering Sansa Stark, who was doing her best to act loyal to her fiance/captor and not vomit at the very sight of him. Tyrion Lannister, played by the now top-billed Peter Dinklage, enters, arrived in King’s Landing to serve as hand to the king in the stead of his father, who is fighting a war against Robb Stark. The position was last filled by poor Eddard Stark, who lost his head at the end of Season 1....



On Dragonstone: 
Who has been spreading the rumor that Joffrey is a product of twincest? That would be Stannis Baratheon, the brother of the late king Robert, who sent the news to “every corner of the realm.” (Stannis learned the truth from Ned Stark last season.) He’s made his own claim to the throne with the help of Melisandre, a priestess with fiery red hair and a dress to match. “The night is dark and full of terrors,” she chanted. She’s definitely one of those terrors.
