James McAvoy: Is this a phone I see before me? asks angry James McAvoy (HERALD SCOTLAND)

From giggling schoolchildren to chirping mobile phones, noises off have a rich history of drawing ire from actors on the stage.

Now Hollywood actor James McAvoy has become the latest to be visibly irked by activity from the audience.

During a performance of Macbeth in London, the Scots star saw a member of the audience was filming him with a mobile phone.

The Glasgow-born actor, who was playing the role of Shakespeare's Scottish king at the Trafalgar Studios, remonstrated with the man.

One witness said the actor shouted at him and asked him to stop filming.

"The poor fellow looked very embarrassed," a witness said.

Last night, a statement on behalf of the theatre said: "An audience member was caught filming by the actor James McAvoy.

"The filming disrupted the production of Macbeth, forcing James McAvoy to respond to the audience member by asking them to stop filming immediately.

"The production then continued as planned once the camera had been put away."

James McAvoy helps a collapsed audience member during a Macbeth play By Gavriella Tjandra, 3/23/2013

James McAvoy helped a collapsed audience member during his performance of Macbeth in Trafalgar Studio 1, London.

The X-Men: First Class actor stopped in the middle of his performance, went down the stage, and assisted the audience member, who, according to eyewitnesses, had fallen ill, E! News reported.

A theatergoer tweeted, "Saw James McAvoy stop mid culmination scene in #Macbeth to help a collapsed audience member..."

"...crack a joke or 2, then continue with the same intensity. Top guy," the fan continued.

After helping the audience member, McAvoy reportedly called the emergency personnel, and finished the scene he had previously abandoned.

Despite an interrupted performance, the 33-year-old actor pulled it together, and gave an over-the-top act.

JAMES MCAVOY: Macbeth is making me feel 103

SOME pity, please, for James McAvoy.

By: Adam Helliker
Published: Sun, March 17, 2013

"I'm 33 but I feel like I'm 103 because the stage show is so exhausting. Eight performances a week and no let-up. It's the most physical thing I've ever done, and it puts all the action movies in the shade. I've got cuts and bruises in places I didn't even know I had.

"Until now the worst damage I'd ever done myself was getting a bruised coccyx... and that was the result of an attempt to slide down the handrail at Tottenham Court Road Station when I was 22."

London Below is slowly coming to life. With less than two weeks to go until Radio 4/4 Extra opens a portal to the magical realm in fantasy drama Neverwhere, we have a gallery of exclusive shots of the star-studded cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy and Natalie Dormer.

McAvoy is Richard Mayhew, a young businessman drawn into the subterranean world of London Below after he comes to the aid of a girl named Door, played by Dormer. In a place where famous landmarks take on a life of their own, Benedict Cumberbatch is the Angel Islington, an actual angel who watches over the city beneath the city.

Is James McAvoy The New Crow? Rumour has it that he's in talks 26 February 2013 | Written by Owen Williams | (EMPIRE ON LINE)

Relativity's reboot of James O'Barr's The Crow has been thrashing around in development for ages now. Last we heard, a year or so ago, attached star Bradley Cooper and director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo had both left the project. The Crow refuses to stay dead, however, and word this morning is that James McAvoy is in talks to wear the leathers and the corpse paint. F. Javier Gutierrez is the man currently in the director's chair.

We are slightly dubious about this news, since BD seem disinclined to talk about any sort of source for their scoop. But they point out that they previously correctly announced Mark Wahlberg's brief involvement, so maybe they have a secret insider source. McAvoy seems like an odd choice, but we wouldn't necessarily have pegged him for Professor Xavier either, and look how well that worked out.

David Oyelowo, who has recently appeared in Lincoln, has complained that the class system in Britain compromises opportunities for actors.

By Alice Vincent, Entertainment Writer, online7:00AM GMT 12 Feb 2013

Actor David Oyelowo has complained about the limitations of British acting after finding great opportunities in America. Oyelowo, who was born in Oxford to Nigerian parents and now lives in Los Angeles, said that British actors suffered from a class-based "glass-ceiling", which doesn't exist in Hollywood.

In an interview with the Radio Times, Oyelowo discussed the difference between the countries: "America has its own class system, but it's about money. The more money you have, the higher up the ladder you are. Here, you can have talent and money and still be deemed working class. That means there are certain glass ceilings."

Oyelowo played Danny Hunter in BBC MI5 drama Spooks between 2002 and 2004, but has since taken on film roles in The Last King of Scotland, The Help, a film about the civil rights movement in 1960s America, and the Oscar-nominated Lincoln. Oyelowo grew up on a North London council estate, and became an actor after winning a scholarship to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His first major role was as Henry VI for the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2001.

David Oyelowo: Middle of Nowhere, The Master, Bernie, Moonrise Kingdom Nominated for Gotham Awards POSTED BY SASHA STONE ON OCT 18, 2012

Beasts of the Southern Wild, Bernie, Middle of Nowhere, and Moonrise Kingdom Receive Two Nominations Each
Best Feature
Bernie
The Loneliest Planet
The Master
Middle of Nowhere
Moonrise Kingdom

POSTED BY SASHA STONE ON OCT 18, 2012 IN CRITICS AWARDS, LAFCA, NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW, NBR, NYFCC

Indiewire reports that the NBR will take place December 5, 2012, two days after the New York Film Critics and three days after their announcing date last year. What is the significance of this? There isn’t one except that the NYFCC will be the ones with their asses hanging out first. That’s a good thing for them, as Glenn Whipp reported earlier, “An NYFCC press release notes that the group’s awards are often viewed as harbingers of the Oscar nominations’. The circle’s awards are ‘also viewed — perhaps more accurately — as a principled alternative to the Oscars, honoring aesthetic merit in a forum that is immune to commercial and political pressures.”
