Alan Rickman Ties the Knot in NYC with Partner of 50 Years

British actor Alan Rickman has been off the market for the past 50 years, living with his partner Rima Horton, an economist and politician, for 40 of them. They met when he was 19 and she was 18. But now it’s official: they’re hitched.

Rickman has been doing the rounds to talk about his recently released film A Little Chaos, and when chatting with a German newspaper he dropped a love bomb.

The newspaper Bild asked what the secret was behind sustaining a long-term relationship without tying the knot, and Rickman politely corrected the interviewer, saying, “We are married, just recently. It was great, because no one was there. After the wedding in New York we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and ate lunch.”

The wedding took place in NYC, where our office is located, and we weren’t invited?

We won’t take offense, as it appears to have been just the two of them (and at least one witness and someone to officiate the ceremony).

Alan Rickman Charms Audience During BAFTA Life In Pictures Event

August actor-director Alan Rickman effortlessly charmed audiences on a balmy London evening as he took a stroll down memory lane for the latest in BAFTA’s Life in Pictures series. Recalling a career that has seen him work with some of the film industry’s most talented and eclectic directors, including Neil Jordan, Alfonso Cuaron, Tim Burton, Ang Lee and the late Anthony Minghella, Rickman mused on his late start in the film business. “To be perfectly honest, having a film career is a bit of a surprise,” said the RADA alumni, who was in his 40s when he appeared in his first film. It didn’t hurt his career for that first film to be the era-defining Die Hard in 1988.



“I was extremely cheap,” quipped Rickman about what made the newbie thesp attractive to Die Hard producer Joel Silver, before remembering he almost turned the role down. “I read it and said, ‘What the hell is this? I’m not doing an action movie.” Thankfully for Rickman, and audiences, he was persuaded by friends to take that first role even though it might also have proven his last. Recalling how he had to perform his own stunt in the climactic fall from the top of the skyscraper — this was in the pre-CGI days — Rickman was given one afternoon’s training to prepare for the scene, “which was the very last shot — just in case.”

He also commended Die Hard for its ahead-of-its-time racial diversity. “Every single black character in that film was positive. So, 28 years ago, that was quite revolutionary and quietly so.”

The decade he spent working on the Harry Potter series, seven weeks a year for ten years as Snape, began with him having no idea where the initially ambiguous character was going. “People thought  I knew a lot but I didn’t. There were only 3 three books (when we started), so I was learning with the readers, going, ‘Oh, he’s still in it,” joked Rickman. “At first I thought I can’t play this. I don’t know who Snape is. I’m going to need to speak to her (J.K. Rowling)….she gave me one piece of information I promised to never share and I never did but it made me know I had to drive down two roads at the same time.”

Britain’s child labour laws also meant that there were tight limits on how many hours the triumvirate of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint could work, so when the camera was focused on Rickman, “in would come the very small adult actors aged 33 with a wig on their heads…That ain’t the back of Daniel’s head.”

Alan Rickman, British actor and director, says new film A Little Chaos draws 'modern parallels' for women

British actor and director Alan Rickman is widely known for his role as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films.

He has worked on both sides of the camera for his new film A Little Chaos, which tackles issues faced by women past and present.

Rickman describes A Little Chaos as human, true and timeless.

Set in 1682, the romantic drama follows Kate Winslet's character Sabine, a talented landscape designer chosen to build one of the main gardens at King Louis XIV's new palace at Versailles.

Sabine challenges gender and class barriers and becomes involved with the court's renowned landscape artist André Le Notre, played by Matthias Schoenaerts.

"When you ... watch it, I kind of hope that you will all forget about the period and see all sorts of modern parallels," Rickman told Jane Hutcheon on One Plus One.

Rickman reflects on women's roles in both eras, noting the writer's choice to take a period where women were merely decorative objects with no function.

"It's sad that the situation still persists, I mean, you still have women as decorative objects all over the media," he said.

Rickman admires the writing for allowing Schoenaerts' character to show his feminine side and Winslet's character to show her masculine side.

"And neither of them as actors is afraid of that. And I think that creates a great sexual tension between them," Rickman said.

Rickman is a feminist who has encountered strong women throughout his life, including his partner Rima Horton, who is a former Labour Party candidate and lecturer of economics.

"There's nothing wrong with a man being a feminist — I think it's to our mutual advantage," he said.

Rickman was born on a council estate in West London to Margaret Doreen Rose and Bernard Rickman in 1946, around five months after the end of World War II.

When Rickman was eight years old his father died of cancer, leaving his mother to seek out work to feed her family.

But he does not dwell on the hardship, harking back to the story of A Little Chaos when recalling his mother's strength.

"She was a tigress. She could do anything ... all those female things, sew cook and clean — she took care of those things without even thinking about it because she had been trained by her mother," he said.

It’s a thing now, guys: Benedict Cumberbatch is everywhere. He’s been all up in the buzzy bits of the Internet for a long while now, but his meme potential has never lessened. The Cumberbatch obsession may have begun with the fervent exchange of Sherlock gifs on Tumblr, but it’s evolved since then to the wider world, who has gleefully embracing all of the possible mashups his name allows (Cumberbaby! Blunderbatch!) in addition to mercilessly mocking him for being in absolutely everything. Lovingly, though, of course. Most recently, even former Luna Lovegood Evanna Lynch joined the Benedict Cumberbatch obsession, and tweeted an image of Cumberbatch alongside the most amazing caption known to man (at least, for today): ”Crumplehorned Snorkack is my favourite actor. #sorrynotsorry #thankstumblr.”

It was some classic, Cumberbatch-inspired humor (Cumberhumor?), but it also reminded me of another important Cumberissue: We haven’t talked nearly enough about who he should have played in Harry Potter.

I mean, it’s not that farfetched a question: If you squint, you can see half the population of Britain’s actors passing through the Harry Potter movies at one point or another, and yet Cumberbatch was nowhere to be found. This Cumberloss is understandable, but it also seems like a bit of a missed opportunity! So, with Lynch’s tweet as an excuse, let’s combine nostalgia for the first series of films and hope for an eventual reboot: Let’s fancast Benedict Cumberbatch in Harry Potter. Dude’s got range, the options are nearly endless!

Here are some characters he could have played:

Severus Snape

We already know about his Alan Rickman impression, and he’s actually a much more suitable age to play someone from the immediately-pre-Harry generation. Plus, you know…he could pull off intimidating and mysterious well. (However, I don’t know how I’d feel about being inexplicably attracted to Severus Snape.)

Dobby

He’s already proven his ability to play CGI’d characters, why not give him the chance to play this self-sacrificing house elf?

James Potter



A character who did not get nearly enough page- or screen-time. He’s got the dark hair, and could totally help inspire audience waterworks as a spirit guiding his son.

All Of the Marauders At Once

He could really play all of them. James? Yeah! Remus? Hell yeah! Sirius Black? With the right costuming! Peter? Sure, I guess! Give him a chance to really challenge himself with one Cumberbatch mega-movie extravaganza.

Jonny Lee Miller: Elementary boss wants Idris Elba, Alan Rickman guest appearances

Elementary creator Rob Doherty has expressed hopes of Idris Elba and Alan Rickman appearing on the CBS show.

Doherty has revealed that the Elementary writers have a "wish list" of actors and actresses that they would love to work with.

"My wish list? I love Idris Elba," he told Access Hollywood. "I'm a big fan of Luther. He's amazing."

Doherty went on to say: "At various times, for different characters, Alan Rickman's name has been bandied about and he's fantastic.

December has been anything if not consistent, especially when it comes to the release of movie trailers. We have already had a whole host of different and interesting movie trailers this month and today is no different. Here, we give you the new A Promise trailer, starring Alan Rickman, Richard Madden and Rebecca Hall.

A Promise is a romantic drama, which is set just before WWI in Germany. The film centres around a married couple who take in the husbands young protegé. This leads to the wife falling for the younger man and, before long, they are pledging their love and devotion to one another.

As well as starring Richard Madden, Alan Rickman and Rebecca Hall, the A Promise cast also includes Maggie Steed, Toby Murray, Christelle Cornil, Shannon Tarbet, Jonathan Sawdon and Jean-Louis Sbille. A Promise is directed by Patrice Leconte, from the screenplay developed with Jérôme Tonnerre.

Alan Rickman discusses his music taste in relation to CBGB

British actor Alan Rickman is considered one of the best actors in the industry and has appeared in some great roles in some fantastic movies over the years. Alan can now be seen in the movie CBGB and he has opened up about the music her grew up listening to in relation to the film.

He added, "But of course I was also very much around the height of The Beatles and The Stones, so it was like that was the lone star and everything spun off from there. And [Bob] Dylan, very much so. ... England in the ‘60s and the ‘70s was everything that history has said; it was phenomenally exciting, musically. One was very shaped by that."

Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint: 'CBGB' film to premiere on DIRECTV ahead of theatrical release

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- "CBGB," a film about the New York nightclub where U.S. punk rock music was born, is to premiere on DIRECTV, the satellite company said Thursday.

Directed by Randall Miller and starring Alan Rickman, Malin Akerman, Ashley Greene and Rupert Grint, the film will debut Sept. 5 and air through Oct. 2, prior to its theatrical release Oct. 11.

"By providing exclusive, premium content in an earlier window we can offer our customers an entertainment experience they can't find anywhere else," Alex Kaplan, vice president of marketing for DIRECTV, said in a statement Thursday. "At the same time filmmakers have a new platform with 20 million viewers to distribute their work. We're excited to work with XLrator Media to give our customers an exclusive look at 'CBGB' before it hits theaters."

Quarterfinals are over; on to the semis! But before we move forward, let’s take a look at the last round’s surprising results.

We know that close matches generate huge vote totals. However, we never could have anticipated the almost 500,000 votes in the David Tennant/Alan Rickman quarters battle. (That’s far more votes than in either of our previous years’ finals — truly impressive.) With their topsy-turvy race never budging far from 50/50, Rickman just edged out Tennant, 50.92 percent to 49.08.

This reminds us that, while Rickman had an early exit last year, our 2011 Anglo Fan Favorites champion is very much a factor in 2013, Snape or no Snape. And his AFF record is 1-0 against the towering Benedict Cumberbatch, whom he faces this week.

Cumberbatch drops from No. 1 seed to last seed this week, as he had the smallest vote total of the Final Four. His quarterfinals match with Sir Ian McKellen, a legend to be sure, was never competitive, leaving no real need for fans to stuff the ballot box to secure Cumberbatch’s ultimate landslide victory. As a result, Cumberbatch only required 44,000 quarterfinals votes to win while Rickman needed 251,000. Against the resurgent Rickmaniacs, Benedict’s fans will surely have to mobilize this round to get their lad into the finals.

Meanwhile, last year’s champion Tom Hiddleston looks strong as ever this year. He was challenged early on by Merlin‘s Colin Morgan, but Hiddles eventually found a comfortable cushion of votes and never looked back. Could Hiddleston find himself defending his title next week in the finals, possibly in a Cumberematch?

Alan Rickman leads an all-star cast as Hilly Kristal, the financially unstable entrepreneur who opened the iconic club in 1973. CBGB, which stands for "Country Bluegrass Blues," ultimately closed in 2006 over a rent dispute but lives on as the largest music festival in New York City. "Why would you save for your dreams?" Rickman, as Kristal, asks in the trailer. "Why not live your dreams?"

Rupert Grint and Alan Rickman's new film CBGB, has released a range of dates for its premiere this fall. Iconically, the movie will be released during this year's anual CBGB Music Festival. The festival runs from October 9-13 in New York City, New York. The film does not have a definite date, but it will premiere sometime between the 9th and the 13th. The Hollywood Reporter states:
