Michael Fassbender visits Life's Too Short set Source: Bang Showbiz (THE LIST)

Michael Fassbender shocked the cast of British sitcom ‘Life’s Too Short’ by arriving on set to watch his close pal Val Kilmer film a cameo appearance.

Michael Fassbender visited the ‘Life’s Too Short’ set.

The Hollywood actor has been hanging out behind the scenes of Warwick Davis, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s BBC Two sitcom after being invited by Val Kilmer, who has a cameo role on the show’s last episode.

A source told DigitalSpy: “Fassbender and Kilmer were just hanging out with everyone on set and really enjoying themselves.

“It was amazing to see these Hollywood stars on the same set as the show’s British TV stars like Les Dennis, Keith Chegwin and Shaun Williamson.”

Val reportedly asked producers whether he could bring a friend along and the cast and crew were gobsmacked when the high profile ‘Shame’ actor turned up.

'Movie 43' Trailer: Gerard Butler and a Plethora of Stars Get Raunchy (ADULT ONLY PLEASE!!!) 9:02 AM PDT 10/3/2012 by Jordan Zakarin (THR)

The omnibus sketchy comedy flick features Hollywood's A-List doing things that probably won't help any Oscar chances. It's a long tradition: dramatic movie stars heading to play against type on television. Jon Hamm does it frequently, including on 30 Rock; Kate Winslet and many others did it for Ricky Gervais' show Extras; and there have been 38 years worth of unexpected hosts of Saturday Night Live.

Hollywood, however, has never seen ego subversion on the scale promised by Movie 43.

Offensive language -  naked women - politically incorrect behavior - where did this movie come from? I never heard of it before.  Just plain wrong!  Can't wait.

Steven Merchant: Ricky Gervais' much funnier half (The Wall Street Journal)

Merchant says he finds his comedy in being onstage as victim, not victor – an interesting take for one so successful in his writing career – but then again, look at some of the characters he’s created. “I find that for me, a comedian should be lesser than the audience and self-deprecating. Woody Allen is a big hero of mine…and Richard Pryor – for all his magnetism and swagger onstage much of what he says is undermining himself; his crazy behavior – hanging onto the universe by the fingernails. I find that very appealing; whereas I can admire an Eddie Murphy, but walking onstage in a one piece leather jumpsuit just seems very odd to me – if you want to be Rick James, be Rick James. His persona is sort of a swaggering swordsman and I’m just not that.”

Merchant’s show is funny, empathetic–and popular with a certain set. In the audience for this show were three Brits: Emily Blunt (with husband John Krasinski), Kate “Underworld” Beckinsale and Academy Award winner Colin Firth. And for all his frustrations over his lanky frame and challenging height (he tells an interesting tale of how one has sex when the average women is 5’4” to his close to 7’ stature), Merchant is undoubtedly a charmer – handsome in that geeky sort of way and a man who actually puts his cards on the table – not something a lot of men are willing to do these days. With that kind of healthy attitude, Merchant will probably find himself his one and only very soon.

Stephen Merchant’s one-man show continues in San Francisco, Tuesday January 24th at Cobb’s Pub.

Colin Firth: Kate Beckinsale and Emily Blunt double date at Stephen Merchant's stand-up show... and Colin Firth tagged along too (The Daily Mail)

The British contingent were out in force last night to support funnyman Stephen Merchant as he bought his comedy show to the U.S.

It was date night for UK-born actresses Kate Beckinsale and Emily Blunt who were accompanied by their American husbands her husband Len Wiseman and John Krasinki.

And Oscar-winning Colin Firth completed the star-studded ausience, not minding being the third wheel as he walked into Beverly Hills' Coronet Theatre with Emily and John.

Stephen Merchant, known for his collaborations with funnyman Ricky Gervais, who hosted the Golden Globes on Sunday, has brought his successful stand-up show, Hello Ladies, to the states this year.

Yesterday, he spoke about the difference between English and American audiences.

'In England, the audience can be quite surly at times,' he told the Los Angeles Times.

'You can walk on and you get the feeling that they are sitting with their arms crossed sort of, "Yeah, listen. It was raining, we had to park the car, so this better be funny mate".

'American audiences just seemed much more enthusiastic. like 'Yay! It's great, it'll be fun! Let's enjoy.'

Meanwhile, Colin Firth was surprised by talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres when she flew his Madame Tussauds wax figure all the way from London.

Still so in love: Kate and Len shared a intimate moment after the show

She was seen asking him: 'This is a very exciting thing. You have a wax figure in London, right?'
He replied: 'Yes, we have a museum. It’s legendary now, Madame Tussasuds. One of the first tourist attractions I visited I think, when I went to London.

'That was a big deal for me even before the Oscars. You wandered around these startlingly life-sized figures. And I remember thinking "What does to take to become one of these?" And I‘ve just become one.'

She asked him whether he had seen it yet, to which he said 'not in person'.

Ellen then revealed: 'We flew it in from London. I have to say thank you to Madame Tussauds. They actually helped us do this.'

The pair studied the lifelike figure and Ellen showed Colin it was wearing her Ellen boxers.

Liam Neeson ‘Life’s Too Short’ Comedy Pitch Makes Ricky Gervais Squirm [VIDEO]

Liam Neeson ‘Life’s Too Short’ Comedy Pitch Makes Ricky Gervais Squirm [VIDEO]

By IBTimes Staff Reporter | November 12, 2011 3:15 PM EST
It's not easy to fluster Ricky Gervais, but Liam Neeson does just that in the pilot episode of the BBC2 comedy "Life's Too Short."
Neeson plays himself in the episode, announcing to Gervais (joined by Steven Merchant and "Life's too Short" star Warwick Davis) that he wants to try his hand at stand up comedy.

During the five-minute cameo, Neeson displays his hilarious comic ineptitude, insisting on bringing A.I.D.S., famine, and desperate prostitutes into an impromptu improv rehearsal.

At one point Neeson gets a genuine laugh -- when he says Steven Spieldberg "probably" cast him as the lead in "Schindler's List" because he's "always making lists."

"I said, Steven, I make lists all the time. And he said, 'That's exactly what I'm looking for.'"

Neeson doesn't understand why the others find this funny.

"Life's Too Short" is a mockumentary series that follows Warwick Davis's many challenges as a little person in the entertainment industry. In the show, he is both an actor and an agent.

Liam Neeson On Ricky Gervais' 'Life's Too Short' (VIDEO)

British reviewers aren't wasting any beautifully-articulated words taking down the new Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant sitcom "Life's Too Short" (coming stateside next year), calling it derivative of "The Office" but not as funny, a showpiece for Gervais' "ego," and ham-fisted in its treatment of star Warwick Davis, an actor who happens to be a dwarf (one scene apparently has him struggling to reach something for awhile; end joke).

They did however agree on one bright spot -- a 5 minute cameo by Liam Neeson at the episode's end in which the famously stoic actor seeks Gervais' and Merchant's advice on how to break into comedy. What follows is a hilarious set-up and perfectly-delivered punchline shouldered expertly by Neeson and the rest. Maybe all the show needs is a hunky, famous actor? Revolutionary practice, we know!

Liam Neeson, Ricky Gervais - Life's too short

Irish Times

Liam Neeson is a good sport

Donald Clarke

You may have read a bit about Ricky Gervais recently. The chatty comic got himself in trouble for using a dodgy word — look it up, I’m not going there — repeatedly on some sort of social networking thing. This writer was not alone in basing a facetious column on the controversy. Most pieces were critical. A few were supportive.

Some of the sillier ones argued that Gervais has already demonstrated an unacceptable attitude to disability in his work and that his new series, Life’s Too Short, looks set to offer further enormities. This strikes me as utter nonsense. The jokes about wheelchair users in The Office and about people with Down’s Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy in Extras were always directed at the insensitivity of those without such disabilities. We haven’t yet seen Life’s Too Short, which deals with a dwarf in the entertainment industry, but, given that it was devised and co-written by the admirable Warwick Davies, himself a dwarf, it seems unlikely that the gags emerge from ignorance. I’ll certainly be tuning in (what a quaint phrase) when it emerges on the BBC next month.

Anyway, today’s subject is not Gervais, but the inestimable Mr Liam Neeson. Raised in lovely Ballymena, Liam does not have a reputation as a particularly ebullient interviewee. Now, I must say that I’ve met him twice and found him to be real charmer. Obviously, being a Northerner, he doesn’t exactly chatter like Quentin Tarantino. But, if encouraged, he gives good anecdote and is dryly amusing about the complications of growing up as a Catholic in a Protestant-dominated area. Nonetheless, after being interviewed recently by Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo, he was the subject of much good-natured ribbing by that pair. Given any opportunity, they would go into a muttery impersonation of the great Antrim man. Mind your bleeding manners.

The good news is that he seems to recognise his reputation and is prepared to take the mickey out of himself. I just love his appearance at about 1′ 16” in this (oddly murky) promo for Life’s Too Short. Nobody will ever again say he doesn’t have a sense of humour. Good for you, old man.
