Michael Fassbender's big head in 'Frank,' a counterpoint in TMZ era

LA TIMES
By STEVEN ZEITCHIK
August 21, 2014

(not from the movie)
http://rebloggy.com/post/shame-michael-fassbender-prometheus-frank-fassy-300-jane-eyre-a-dangerous-method/84566994075

Modern movie stardom is dependent on many things, but perhaps none more so than well-known, good-looking faces appearing in new films.

So what would make a high-profile actor decide to spend most of a movie wearing a cartoon face that renders him unrecognizable? And apart from a sense of masochistic mischief, what would prompt someone to make a movie with just that
conceit?

(nope, this isn't from the movie either)

It's a question that will be running through your head with Magnolia Films' release Friday of a new indie dramedy "Frank," directed by the Irish filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson and starring Michael Fassbender.

"Head" is a key word, since Fassbender — of course famous as Magneto in the "X-Men" series and in rigorous dramas such as "12 Years a Slave" — spends most of the film in a giant one, a fully concealing apparatus that looks like a cross between a Lego mini figure and one of those inflatable replicas of Edvard Munch's "The Scream."

(ok, now I'm just being silly)

If you see the movie, you may find yourself furtively checking your phone halfway through wondering if you misread Fassbender's billing — or, perhaps, calming a zealous spouse who wants to rush back to the ticket window asking for a refund. But it's indeed Fassbender under there, speaking in an American accent, as a character inspired by Frank Sidebottom, a real-life musician who, in the tradition of the Residents and Daft Punk, was almost never seen performing without the disguise.

"Frank" actually takes this character one step further, since the Daft Punk duo presumably takes its masks off in private. Fassbender's Frank keeps it on all the time--even, as another of his bandmates matter of factly notes, when showering and brushing his teeth.

Oh, and technically he's not Frank Sidebottom but a character named Frank who's inspired by him. In fact, Frank Sidebottom wasn't even Frank Sidebottom — he was a character played on-stage by the musician Chris Sievey in late-1980s England.(Sievey died in 2010.) The journalist Jon Ronson, at the time an aspiring rock keyboardist, was recruited rather spontaneously into Sievey's band, and he co-wrote this script in part based on that experience.

There are, then, layers of irony. Figuratively. But also literally.

Michael Fassbender: Assassin's Creed movie gets a release date of May 22, 2015. Reported by Mike E on Sunday, May 19 2013 2:35 am

20th Century Fox has officially scheduled a released date for the Assassin’s Creed movie. Box Office Mojo is reporting that the movie being produced by New Regency is slated to release on May 22, 2015. You might find some good news and bad news in the distant release date: the bad news being that it’s far away, and the good news being that they might take the extra time to create a better movie.

Speaking of the quality, it definitely has a nice name attached to it.  The always popular Michael Fassbender is producing and starring in the movie himself. The script will be written by Michael Lesslie, who according to his imdb page doesn’t seem to have many works that we can judge him off of just yet.

Regardless, it’s nice to see that there is an actual release date for this thing; now we just have to exercise our patience. I’m sure that’s something gamers are good at.

Keira Knightley to wed this weekend:TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2013 03:29 AM EDT | UPDATED: TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2013 03:33 AM EDT (TORONTO SUN)

British actress Keira Knightley is preparing to marry her fiance James Righton in the South of France this weekend, according to U.K. reports.

The Klaxons rocker proposed to Knightley last year after 15 months together, and now they are reportedly set to become husband and wife during a ceremony near Nice.

A source tells Britain's The Sun, "Most of their friends will fly out for the wedding on Friday. They've been planning it for a while but wanted something small and private. They could get married in total private in stunning surroundings."

The stars, who moved in together in early 2012, were introduced by mutual friend Alexa Chung in early 2011.

Michael Fassbender to take on MacBeth for director Justin Kurzel April 29, 2013 | Written By: Brad Sturdivant (FLIX 66)

I think every talented actor has to do a Shakespeare movie at some point in their career as a sort of right of passage.  Given that Michael Fassbender is one of the more talented actors working today, it makes perfect sense that he’d tackle Shakespeare and so he’s looking to sign on to star in SNOWTOWN director Justin Kurzel’s take on MACBETH.

Although this version will be spoken in the original language and will take place in the 11th century (like the original play), Kurzel promises a more visceral telling and plenty of epic battle scenes.

Michael Fassbender is 'the most spectacular creature' says co-star Sarah Paulson (FANSHARE) PUBLISHED: APRIL 19TH, 2013 @ 5:40 AM BY: ELIZABETH DARRELL

Sarah Paulson plays Michael Fassbender's wife in Steve McQueen's 'Twelve Years A Slave', and she has nothing but the highest praises for him.

Paulson was recently interviewed by Vanity Fair, and when asked about working with Fassbender in the film, she said, "He’s really the most spectacular creature. That was a pretty amazing job. I play a very horrible, racist woman, but I think the movie is going to be very powerful."

She adds, "I just looped a little bit of it the other day to re-record some dialogue and it was my first time seeing some of it. It looks incredible. I feel very proud to be a part of it. Steve McQueen is a genius, a really special filmmaker."

Michael Fassbender gets close to mystery blonde in a plunging outfit on the pavement outside a London club By LUCY BUCKLAND (MAIL ON LINE)

He is one of Hollywood's hottest bachelors and it seems one blonde certainly couldn't wait to get her claws into Michael Fassbender.

Prometheus star Fassbender, 35, was seen leaving the Groucho club in London with a mystery blonde - and although the actor tried to hide his handsome face with a dirty basketball hat as he left, he couldn't help but be recognised.

Heartthrob Fassbender, who split from Shame co-star Nicole Beharie in January after a disastrous couple's holiday, looked to be wasting no time charming the young blonde in the street.

But after being spotted by movie fans Fassbender turned away from his flirting partner and appeared to walk off.

The charming actor's love interest looked slightly put off by his actions, although it is not known if they exchanged numbers.

Michael Fassbender: SHAME trailer (a great movie!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=24cjqfVv1fs#!

SHAME was a great film, not at all what I was expecting.  Rather it was heartbreaking and Michael Fassbender should have been nominated for an Oscar portraying this man's desperate struggle.
