Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn get to work on the set of bloody new series Ripper Street... as 19th century London is recreated in Dublin (MAIL ON LINE)

The grisly murders may have taken place more than a century ago, but the story of Jack the Ripper continues to fascinate many. Something BBC America has obviously twigged.


For, after the success of its crime series Whitechapel, the network is now working on 'Ripper Street', an eight-part series that focuses on the 19th century detectives who tried to catch the serial killer on the job.


The thriller, which stars Mr Darcy Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn, is set in London's east end in 1889 when the killer - or killers, the Ripper's identity is still a mystery - was at large.

This is intriguing. Love anything Matthew Macfadyen is in and having it focus on jack the ripper is even better!

Agree with you completely. I have been crabbing to anyone who will listen about Matthew not working enough so this is great. He is a fantastic actor.
