Ewan McGregor has paid tribute to World War II veterans as a memorial to the British airmen who died in combat was unveiled.

The Queen and Prince Phillp attended the ceremony in London's Green Park to officially open the monument in honour of the estimated 50,000 Bomber Command fighters.

The Scottish actor's brother Colin is a pilot in the Royal Ar Force.

He took to twitter before the unveiling to congratulate the veterans, who have spent years campaigning for a permanent national tribute to those that lost their lives.

McGregor wrote: "It's a big day for our Bomber Command Veterans today.

"The unveiling of the first proper memorial in London. Congratulations and thanks. From us all."
