Ray Stevenson in running for Highlander remake villian (COVENTRY TELEGRAPH)

ACTOR and stuntman Raw Leiba has been linked to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's remake of cult classic Highlander.

Ryan Reynolds is set to star in the title role of immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, who battles others of his kind for the ultimate power and knowledge of The Prize.

Christopher Lambert headlined the 1986 film, with Sean Connery playing his mentor Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez and Clancy Brown as his evil nemesis the Kurgan. Four further films followed, along with two TV series, plus cartoons, books and comics.

The Geek Files has heard that Raw Leiba is rumoured to be appearing in the new film but the actor's representatives said they were unable to comment at this early stage.

Vinnie Jones and Ray Stevenson have been linked to the role of the Kurgan, suggesting that the mentor character Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez could be the one for which Leiba is being considered.

Ramirez, also an immortal, was born in ancient Egypt and took up arms for various civilisations through the ages, before adopting his current identity in 16th century Spain.
