By Kauri

Gerard Butler might be headed to Alaska for ‘Hunter Killer’ by KAURI on FEBRUARY 18, 2012 According to the Alaska State Film office, “Hunter Killer”, the “big-budget military thriller about an American submarine captain’s attempt to rescue the Russian president, will soon be pre-approved for filming in Alaska.”

The movie is based on the novel “Firing Point,” by George Wallace and Don Keith. The Relativity Media film, currently called “Hunter Killer,” is supposedly in the planning stages. While Gerard Butler is in talks to take the leading role, the flick is expected to be directed by Antoine Fuqua, Variety reports.

A big-budget military thriller about an American submarine captain's attempt to rescue the Russian president will soon be pre-approved for filming in Alaska, the state says.

The Relativity Media film, currently called "Hunter Killer," is in the planning stages. Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day,” “Shooter") is expected to direct with Gerard Butler (“300”) in talks to star, Variety reports. A producer for the film has described the movie as a $50 million to $100 million project. In other words: Two or three times the size of "Big Miracle."

The state film office received the producers' request to pre-qualify "Hunter Killer" for the Alaska film incentive about a month ago, said Wanetta Ayers, director of the state Economic Development Division. The state will likely approve the application soon, she said. “It would be the largest incentive ever awarded under the program."

The "Hunter Killer" script is based on the novel “Firing Point,” by George Wallace and Don Keith, according to Variety: “(The) story follows an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue Russia's president, who's taken prisoner during a military coup.

The two sides team to stop a rogue Russian general from igniting WWIII." Butler was in talks to play the commander of the USS Toledo, the trade magazine reported.

Liam Neeson: officially harder than a pack of wolves (Now. Here. This)

Posted at 6:00 pm, January 8, 2012 in Arts & Entertainment

It’s been gradually picking up momentum over the past few months, but a series of Stateside screenings have pushed Liam Neeson’s latest, survival thriller ‘The Grey’, to the top of the must-see pile. As anyone who saw ‘Unknown’ can attest, Neeson’s unexpected career swerve into hard-man action roles hasn’t always been entirely successful, but this one looks like a stormer. He plays an oil driller whose journey home from Alaska is interrupted first by a plane crash, then by a pack of ravenous wolves, who stalk Liam and his team through the barren wilderness. It’s directed by Joe Carnahan, whose career path has been rocky at best (‘Smokin’ Aces’, anyone?), but this cracking trailer, which bears a remarkable similarity to 1997’s hugely entertaining Anthony Hopkins vs Grizzlies romp, ‘The Edge’, suggests he may have broken the slump. We’ll be reviewing ‘The Grey’ for its release on January 27.
