Rob James-Collier, Allen Leech: 'It'll be a nightmare working with pal Rob', jokes Downton's Allen

HERALD
BY LAURA BUTLER – 17 FEBRUARY 2014 02:30 AM

THEY are on-screen enemies, but Irish actor Allen Leech has lined up Downton Abbey co-star Rob James-Collier to play the lead in his directorial debut.

Killiney native Allen said that Rob would be "a nightmare" to direct in the short film Quiz Night because they were such good friends.

"I'm stealing him," the 32-year-old added. "It's a lovely little script that we decided to make. I've never tried it, and if you don't try, you don't know."

Allen's career has come a long way in the past decade. After making his breakthrough in the 2004 film Cowboys and Angels, he joined Downton Abbey in 2010 as chauffeur Tom Branson.

"When I first joined, I thought I'd be the chauffeur for a couple of episodes, and now here I am running the estate," Allen has said.

And if his character ever meets his end, he wants it to be at the hands of Rob, who plays Thomas Barrow in the ITV period drama.

"If I was going, I'd like Thomas to kill me," he said. "We could wrestle for a knife and Thomas would win."

IN FEAR Takes A Scary Allen Leech Out Of DOWNTON ABBEY

BEST MOVIES EVER

BY CURT JOHNSON

allen leech in fear very scary for downton abbey

In Fear blew away audiences at Sundance, and it’s even gotten a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes which says a lot for an indie horror pic, but for fans of Downton Abbey, you’ll get to see a very scary side of Allen Leech aka Tom Branson that he’s been holding back. You can pre-order this one too.

For any horror fan, In Fear truly delivers on atmosphere plus it looks amazing shot in 1080 which makes some horror films look way too stark, but not this one. Director Jeremy Lovering knew what look he wanted and obviously delivered it for every happy fan and movie reviewer. What makes this one interesting, is that there wasn’t really a script for Leech to work off of which can be the death of many films. It worked beautifully for this one.

Our friends at Anchor Bay have a couple blu-ray copies for you, and you can see just below how to get your hands on ‘em! It’s so worth it.
