MICHELLE DOCKERY
Nominated for: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Role: Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey
Another Downton Abbey nomination, one of the 12 for the hit period drama.
It's also the second time Michelle Dockery has received an Emmy nomination for her role as Lady Mary – last year she lost out to Claire Danes from Homeland in the best actress category.
Dockery will be up against Danes again this year, although with Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, Jim Carter and Julian Fellowes all nominated, there will definitely be safety in numbers for the Downton nominees.

Role: Linda Kenny-Baden in Phil Spector
Awards veteran Dame Helen Mirren is up for her tenth Emmy nomination for her role in HBO biopic Phil Spector.
Her first nomination came in 1994 for her role as DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect; Mirren's won four awards since, the last coming in 2007 for (yes, again) Prime Suspect. Is current British export sensation Downton Abbey on the way to achieving that kind of longevity?
In Phil Spector, which aired in the UK on Sky Atlantic in June, she played Linda Kenney-Brown, defense attorney to music industry producer Phil Spector during his murder trial.

This is the second time the Sherlock actor has been nominated for an Emmy Award. The first was last year when he received a nomination for playing Sherlock Holmes, but lost out to Kevin Costner for his leading role as William ‘Devil Anse’ Hatfield in Hatfields & McCoys.
This year he’s up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini Series for playing Christopher Tietjens in Parade’s End. When he heard of his nomination, Cumberbatch paid tribute to writer Tom Stoppard who adapted the novel by Ford Madox Ford.
“I was so honoured to work on Parade’s End, to get the chance to get under the skin of such a complex, beautifully written character as Tietjens with a script written by the unsurpassable Sir Tom Stoppard,” he said.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch will be celebrating his birthday and Emmy Award nomination in Spain this weekend (19-21Jul13) after he was invited to officiate his friend's wedding in Ibiza.
The Star Trek Into Darkness hunk turned 37 on Friday (19Jul13), one day after he was nominated for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his period drama Parade's End, and now he is capping off his eventful week by conducting his pal's civil ceremony off the coast of Valencia on Saturday (20Jul13)
