Sherlock-Season-4-Air-Date-Spoilers

The BBC announced earlier this year that "Sherlock" will be returning. The network released a tentative air year (not to be confused with an official air date) for the season 4 of "Sherlock." According to the BBC, the show will have a 2016 air date, keeping to the pattern of releasing a season every two years. In addition to a tentative 2016 release date, the BBC revealed that there will be a one episode special prior to the fourth season.

Release date aside, there may be some sadness in the episodes to come. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, producer Steve Moffat was if the new season can top season 3 and his reply was exciting and ominous: “We have a plan to top it. And I do think our plan is devastating. We’ve practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan … we’re probably more excited that we’ve ever been about Sherlock.”

Now, we know "devastating" is a subjective word and the verbiage is open to interpretation, but one has to wonder if Moffat is hinting at a death. A death of a major character will surely shake things up but the following question is which character will and can die? Through the process of elimination, we're inclined to believe it will be Sherlock's family member or Mrs. Hudson. The latter's death will certainly affect Sherlock more, and in turn, pull at the heartstrings of the viewers.

Here are 20 spoilers for season 4 of "Sherlock":

1. It will be unexpected. "Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect ... " teases Moffat to the BBC.

2. The show will be darker. "We’re going to try to take it somewhere we’ve never been before — and I don’t mean outer space," said Moffat to Entertainment Weekly." It will be challenging place to go. We always start with a re-introduction that builds toward a darker climax — we might just be going darker [from the outset]. We got a very, very good set of ideas."

3. The plans for season 3 are top secret.  Moffat told Entertainment Weekly that season 4 will be even better than season 3. "We have a plan to top [Season 3]," said Moffat. "And I do think our plan is devastating. We’ve practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan … we’re probably more excited that we’ve ever been about Sherlock."

Very little is known about season 4 of Sherlock, though creator Steven Moffat has teased a few details on what fans should expect.

Season 4 of Sherlock will feature Sherlock's (Benedict Cumberbatch) nemesis Moriarty (Andrew Scott), who revealed himself to be alive in the season 3 finale.

Moffat said that he had a plan in place for Moriarty to appear again in the series since season 2, with Scott in on the plan as well.

Moffat suggested that Molly will be a part of the fourth season, saying that "every time we bring a woman into Sherlock, it works hugely well."

Fans may have to wait a long time to see the fourth season of Sherlock, much like every season. Moffat said after the season 3 finale that it's possible that the show won't be on the air again for another two years, much like the first season's debut in 2010, the second season in 2012 and the third in 2014.

Sherlock season 4 does not have a set premiere date yet, but it is expected to air in 2016.

'Sherlock' Season 4 Spoilers: Mrs. Hudson, Molly, Moriarty Characters More of Romance and Friendship In The BBC Series?

BBC's popular show "Sherlock" Season 3 has just finished and many have already started speculating about the upcoming season 4. For viewers who can no longer wait until the next season premiere to know what really is in store for the show, here are some teasers about Sherlock's adventures, potential romantic life and friendships.

It was recently announced that "Sherlock" is having its own 25 million GBP theme park in Portsmouth to focus on the detective's quests in Baker Street, London. "We are talking about world class, Sherlock Holmes experience," Steve Pitt of Portsmouth Cultural Partnership said. "It would be interactive and of high quality. There are many tie-ins around the Sherlock Holmes legacy being born in Portsmouth."

In an interview, it was also suggested that Moriarty (Andrew Scott) could be a major character in season 4. The third season concluded with a surprising twist of Moriarty's return. The season finale also featured Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) shooting Magnussen (Lars Mikkelsen).

According to executive producer Steven Moffat, the viewers will also see more of Molly in the next season. "I think she will become an important part of the show. One difficulty in adapting Sherlock Holmes is that there are no women in the original stories. You really do not have the female perspective on them and they are a little flat when they show up. Yet, every time a woman appears in Sherlock, it works hugely well," Moffat explained.

Moffat continued to discuss why women are important for Sherlock the show and the character himself. "A female perspective in the friendship and on the man is incredible illuminating and telling. We have majorly expanded the part of Mrs. Hudson, played by Una Stubbs, because she did not speak in the original story. We brought Molly in," he said.
