Well done Mr Boyle, Mr Cumberbatch and the BBC; the launch of the Olympics was an absolute triumph and, judging by the reaction from the internet during the show, this is going to be an incredibly well-received event.

I wish they had shown this in the states.  It's better than Bob Kostas.  Much better.

Hot wheels: Orlando Bloom grimaces for the camera with Skyline liftie Nathan Aoake Hollywood heart-throb and The Hobbit star Orlando Bloom has been getting down and dirty on Queenstown mountain bike trails. Bloom, in the resort with a host of other big-name actors for filming part of Sir Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit film, took time out last Saturday to go for a spin on the Skyline downhill mountain bike tracks. He even managed to pause during his four downhill runs for a photo with lift operator Nathan Aoake. Bloom’s not the only Hobbit star to venture up Skyline - Jackson was recently snapped testing out his luge skills. Just Queensland
