I've had depression since I was 17, says Keeley Hawes: Actress, 38, believes she will never be completely free from its grip

The star - who once said she could relate to the dark detective character she plays in his BBC drama Line Of Duty - admitted that she believes she will find it hard to find a cure for her "chemical imbalance."

Speaking in a recent interview with Red magazine, the 38-year-old revealed that she has been suffering from the mental illness since she was 17 years old.

"[Therapy] hasn't worked for me. I've got a chemical imbalance that has to be managed. And then it's fine," she said.

Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch: I’m not an overnight success

His recent rise to fame may seem meteoric but Benedict Cumberbatch is keen to make it clear he's not an overnight sensation.

"Somebody said to me the other night 'You're an overnight success'," Cumberbatch told US Vogue magazine, "but it didn't happen overnight."

The Sherlock star has a point. Like many aspiring British actors his career began with bit-parts in shows like Heartbeat and Silent Witness. Cumberbatch had TV roles in spy drama Spooks and period tale Tipping the Velvet, too, before seriously impressing as Stephen Hawking in a BBC biopic of the physicist.

Earlier film appearances have included parts in The Other Boleyn Girl and as a memorably up-tight University Challenge team captain in Starter for 10.

The BBC series ‘Silent Witness’ has been on the air since 1996, making it the British answer to ‘CSI’ or something. Cumberbatch plays forensic student Warren Reid in this two-parter about a body found decomposing in the wall of an old factory building, and a simultaneous break-in on the school campus resulting in the theft of drugs.

FORTYSOMETHING

Cumberbatch plays the son of Hugh Laurie in this miniseries, about a 40-something doctor who lives with his wife and three sex-obsessed sons. Cumberbatch plays sex-obsessed son Rory, who has sex-obsessed problems or something.
