Reelzchannel's latest high-profile miniseries acquisition is The Pillars Of The Earth, which brought Emmy and Golden Globe nominations to premium channel Starz after it aired in summer 2010.
The movies-related basic network said it will air the first two episodes back to back starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday, Dec. 4. Remaining episodes will air over the next eight nights.Ian McShane in 'Pillars of the Earth'Ian McShane in 'Pillars of the Earth'
Reelzchannel has earned Emmy nominations of its own with the pickup of The Kennedys, the miniseries that A&E commissioned and declined to air. The Kennedys was a ratings winner for Reelzchannel, which later pledged to increase its original series output in partnership with the show's producers. The Primetime Emmys ceremony will air on Fox on Sunday, Sept. 18.
The Pillars of the Earth stars Ian McShane (Deadwood), Rufus Sewell (The Illusionist) and Donald Sutherland (Dirty Sexy Money) among others. The story, based on Ken Follett's best-selling novel of all time, is a sweeping epic of good and evil, treachery and intrigue, violence and beauty, a sensuous spirited story set against a backdrop of war, religious strife and power struggles in 12th Century England. The miniseries was produced by Tandem Communications and Muse Entertainment in association with Ridley Scott and Tony Scott's Scott Free Films.
"With The Pillars of the Earth fresh off its premium channel debut, many more viewers nationwide will now have a chance to enjoy this tremendous production on Reelzchannel," CEO Stan E. Hubbard said in a release. "We love miniseries at Reelz and we're excited to bring another Emmy nominated story to our viewers. We're also thrilled to continue the great relationship we built with Muse Entertainment as we brought The Kennedys so successfully to TV together."
"We are thrilled that our monumental series The Pillars of the Earth has its second U.S. window on Reelz," Rola Bauer, managing director and partner of Tandem Communications and executive producer of the series, added in the release. "We have an enthusiastic and committed partner in Stan E. Hubbard and his team at Reelz. They are clearly focused on event programming and appreciate quality content -- a great new home for Pillars in the U.S."
The Pillars of the Earth is directed by three-time DGA award-winner Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Heroes, Into the West) and was shot on location in Hungary and Austria and also stars Matthew Macfadyen, Eddie Redmayne, Hayley Atwell, Sarah Parish, Alison Pill and Gordon Pinsent.

I know May. I thought I was the only one who felt that way. He looked horrid at the end - bad make-up job.
