DOWNTON ABBEY - Series 2, Episode 6 (spoilers)

RADIO TIMES

Lady Mary’s austere press-baron fiancé Richard Carlisle has turned out to be a chippy rotter, pinning her up against a wall and hissing: “Don’t you ever cross me, do you understand? Never!” Not the words of an ardent swain, surely?

Carlisle (Iain Glen) is a sneak, too, trying to poach a valued member of staff from under the nose of Robert (Hugh Bonneville). But perhaps Robert Crawley’s thoughts are elsewhere as his eyes seem to be straying towards a woman who isn’t his wife.

The best scenes this week are those between plucky Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) — who’s really come into her own in this series, growing from a brat into a woman with sensibility and conscience — and a mysterious, horribly injured soldier. He claims to be familiar with Downton Abbey and his presence rocks its once-solid foundations.
