| FOOTAGE of Hungerford actor Adam Brown in his role as Ori the Dwarf in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit has been released on the internet. The behind-the-scenes footage shows tantalising snippets of Brown on set in New Zealand with fellow actors Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) and others. The four videos, placed on YouTube, focuses on the sets, the magic of working in 3D, and interestingly, has Jackson telling of the his worry of working with 13 dwarfs. Jackson said the challenge of giving each dwarf a chance to show character development was difficult and that it almost put him off shooting the film: “You have to keep on differentiating them, which is a challenge.” Brown’s character is described as the attractive one by fellow dwarf actor Graham McTavish (Dwalin), but in Brown’s self deprecating style, he says: “Yes, maybe, if you go in for knitted cardigans and mittens, then I’m your fellow.” The released footage shows a heavily bearded Brown dressed in a thick cloak, presumably to protect himself against the harsh landscape of Middle Earth. Brown’s natural dwarfish appearance is further enhanced by make-up, giving him ruddy features and his stance has been shortened through the magic of cinema to allow the wizards and elves to tower over him. In the footage, James Nesbit (Bofur) jokes that some of the actors actually look better with their makeup on. Brown, aged 30, went to John O'Gaunt Community Technology College in Hungerford and studied Performing Arts at Middlesex University. He is best known in Newbury for his appearances with comedy partner Clare Plested. Together they make up comedy duo Plested and Brown and have been regulars of pantomimes at Newbury’s Corn Exchange for the past three years. But this year, the Corn Exchange Pantomime, Robin Hood, which starts on Friday, will have to make do without him, as filming continues.
