Rob struggled to dance with Maggie Smith in Downtown's Christmas Special

Downton Abbey star Rob James-Collier put the wrong foot forward when he trod on Dame Maggie Smith's toe during filming.
The former Coronation Street actor, who plays evil footman Thomas Barrow, wasn't able to follow Maggie's moves.

‘I was nervous about it because I can't actually dance - unless it's break dancing,' says Rob, 35.

‘I stood on her toe and got the death-ray glare but I got through it. It was extremely nerve-wracking.
'Maggie was OK though.'

Rob and Maggie, 76 - who stars as Lady Violet Crawley - were filming a servants' ball scene for the special Christmas Day episode of Downtown Abbey.

‘Due to the fact that I was having a "Thomas haircut" that day, I missed the first 30 minutes of rehearsals and found that I couldn't keep up,' Rob tells the Sun.

‘I have two left feet and cannot waltz or indeed dance for toffee. But we had a laugh.

‘I suggested we do the lift from Dirty Dancing but she wasn't convinced I had the upper-body strength.'
