(Thank you to Gerard Butler Dot Net for this heads up)
The Coriolanus movie star admitted that glory on the football pitch would bring him more pleasure than picking up an Academy Award.12 January 2012 10:42 GMT
The Paisley-born actor, who has starred in hits including Law Abiding Citizen, The Bounty Hunter and The Ugly Truth, is a huge Celtic fan, and admitted his dream is to score a goal against their rivals on the pitch.
Speaking to The Herald, Gerard talked about playing in the Celtic Legends versus Manchester United Legends charity match last summer.
“It was probably the highlight of my career,” he said. “Back home at Christmas, talking about it with my mum, even she said that. She’s been to Hollwyood premieres with me and she said ti doesn’t get better than that moment. ‘Just to see you walk on at Parkhead’.”
Gerard jokingly added: “My stepfather is a Rangers fan so it’s been an infinite source of entertainment for him to have to deal with that.”
When the movie star was asked if he’d rather score a goal against Rangers or win an Oscar he added: “Scoring a winning goal against Rangers.”
Meanwhile Gerard recently revealed that he could have died after getting into trouble while filming surfing scenes for the movie Of Men and Mavericks, a biopic about surfer Jay Moriarity, that required Butler to surf in one the most challenging spots in the world.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, the actor said: "I was going to go back that day. I was actually in the ambulance and wanted to go back, which was a little crazy, but it's pretty addictive.
"This was maybe one of the few times that the reports were not exaggerated. It was a pretty close call... [The waves] just took me and I couldn't get up. It was pretty hairy."
He added: "In the movie, I put in a scene about a 'two wave hold down', when you are down for so long that the next wave comes over before you get back up, and that's what happened to me."
