Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) meets the Queen (Mirror)

Mr Bean actor Rowan Atkinson was among the guests as the Queen hosted an event at Buckingham Palace to celebrate Charles Dickens.

The comedian, who also starred as Fagin in the West End's Oliver!, was joined by a host of other faces from TV and film at tonight's reception, which was also attended by members of Dickens's family. Atkinson managed to avoid the calamities of his Mr Bean character, who memorably headbutted the Queen in an episode, as he spoke of his "privilege" at being invited to today's events.

He said: "I think it's an extremely important evening. Dickens is an invaluable part of British literary heritage and his work is well worth celebrating. "I am making the most of the opportunity to do it now as I probably won't be around when we celebrate it in another 100 years' time.
