Dame Judi makes surprise appearance at Lingfield Park for charity (SURREY TODAY)

RACEGOERS at Lingfield Park were treated to a special surprise when film star Dame Judi Dench made an appearance.

The A-list actress mingled with nearly 5,000 other race fans on Saturday, August 18, as she supported the East Park branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), of which she is a patron.

The charity, which organises opportunities for disabled people to get involved in activities including riding, show jumping and vaulting, had a stall at the racecourse.

Dame Judi, who lives in Outwood, said: "I love coming to Lingfield Park, it's such a lovely racecourse.

"Everyone here is so friendly and it's lovely to see so many families enjoying a day out in this gorgeous sunshine.

"I'm delighted to come along and support RDA and the valuable work they do."
