James McAvoy's Tartan Army is set to invade Whitehall in new production of Macbeth By BAZ BAMIGBOYE (MAIL ON LINE)
James McAvoy will play Macbeth for a new West End theatre company run by Jamie Lloyd.
The actor will portray the Scottish king in a radical production to be played in the round in a newly configured Trafalgar Studio in Whitehall to be known as Traf Transformed.
Lloyd will produce a series of four plays in the new space with designer Soutra Gilmour, which is being backed by the Ambassador Theatre Group.
Macbeth will run at Traf Transformed from February 9 until April 27.
These days it would seem that everyone wants to be a Thane. After McAvoy ends his run, Kenneth Branagh and director Rob Ashford will essay their interpretation at the Manchester International Festival in July.
McAvoy, 33, told me that he wanted to do it ‘before I get too old’.
I mentioned that Patrick Stewart was in his 60s when he did Macbeth in Chichester and Branagh is middle-aged.
