Ripper Street set to slice up Space this January

L to R: Jerome Flynn as Bennet Drake, Matthew Macfadyen as Edmund Reid, and Adam Rothenberg as Homer Jackson

THUNDER BAY – Entertainment – Suspense. Mystery. Murder. Following the gruesome aftermath of history’s most notorious serial killer, Jack The Ripper, the new eight-episode drama RIPPER STREET joins SPACE’s roster of phenomenal programming beginning Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. ET. Set in the East End of London as it moves into the last decade of the 19th century, RIPPER STREET stars BAFTA Award-winner Matthew Macfadyen (The Three Musketeers, Pride & Prejudice) as Inspector Edmund Reid, the leader of H Division police precinct, which is charged with maintaining order in the blood-stained London streets.

It’s April 1889, six months since the last Jack The Ripper killing, and East London is emerging into a fragile peace, hopeful that the killer’s reign of terror might at last have run its course. Haunted by the failure to catch London’s most evil killer, forward-thinking detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Macfadyen) is now in charge of H Division, based in the toughest district of Whitechapel. Accompanied by loyal local brawn including Detective Sergeant Bennett Drake (Jerome Flynn, GAME OF THRONES), and U.S. Army surgeon and one-time Pinkerton detective Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg, THE EX LIST), Reid seeks to bring justice to a world that is forever on the brink of mayhem.

In the premiere episode of RIPPER STREET, “I Need Light,” a young woman is found brutally murdered with the hallmark signs of the Ripper upon her. One-time H Division boss Chief Inspector Frederick Abberline (Clive Russell, CORONATION STREET) believes it is the return of Jack The Ripper, but Detective Reid suspects a different evil is at work.
