Former Doctor Who David Tennant has opened up about returning for the 50th anniversary episode of the show, saying it was difficult not to step on current Timelord Matt Smith’s toes.

Tennant has filmed scenes for the upcoming episode The Day Of The Doctor, which co-stars Smith and other old faces – and he says it was tricky not to be ‘presumptuous’.

‘You want to do it as well as you did before and that’s difficult because you’re trying to think five years back and make sure it feels the same but you’re also not wanting to step on anyone’s toes or be rather presumptuous,’ the actor told audiences gathered at a BFI screening of Doctor Who.
