Colin Firth and Kate Winslet have been linked to a movie about a duplicitous yacht racer.
The British stars have apparently read the screenplay about Donald Crowhurst, a man who duped loved ones and race officials into believing he spent 240 days circumnavigating the world alone. It seems Colin and Kate are in early discussions to play the main characters – with Colin up for the role of Donald and Kate in talks to portray his wife Clare.
Donald grabbed headlines and the public’s heart when he set out on the dangerous journey in 1968. He was expected to return the following year, with nine other competitors also taking part in the race. However, he was too ill-equipped and inexperienced for the voyage, and his yacht sprung a leak.
Realising he had lost too much ground on his competitors, Donald decided to trick people by falsifying his location on the ship-to-shore messages. His story captured attention around the world, and Donald soon felt the pressure of his lie as he was driven mad trying to keep up the deception.
