Telluride sits at the end of a canyon.
The first public viewing of Oscar winner The King's Speech wasn't in Hollywood or London. It was at Telluride, a community of 2300 residents who live at the end of a box canyon 2667 metres above sea level in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.
Colin Firth, who plays the stuttering King George VI, and Geoffrey Rush, as the consort's Australian-born speech therapist, were present at the screening and received a rare standing ovation from a notoriously critical audience.
It was Firth's first visit to the annual four-day Telluride Film Festival and he reportedly said: "It feels more like a community than a festival ... it's so pure ... It doesn't get better."
