Downton Abbey, Dr. Who up for National Television Award (ITV)
Downton Abbey won a Golden Globe earlier this week for Best Miniseries or Television Film and an Emmy in 2011 for the same category.
The Christmas special of the saga was the fourth most watched show on British television on December 25, only being beaten by the festive editions of Eastenders, Doctor Who and Coronation Street.
Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, who play The Doctor and Amy Pond, are up for Best Male and Female Performance, while Ant and Dec have been shortlisted for the top entertainment prize for the 11th year in a row.
Other awards up for grabs are Serial Drama Performance, with Coronation Street stars Katherine Kelly and Alison King, Emmerdale’s Danny Miller and Eastenders’ Jessie Wallace all up for the award, while Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton, Alan Carr and the Loose Women team will be competing for the Best Talk Show category.
The National Television Awards will be presented by Dermot O’Leary from London’s O2 Arena and will be shown on STV at 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 25.
