The gritty Victorian crime drama Ripper Street returns to BBC One, as we find East London and H Division’s beat is now more chaotic and lawless than ever.

So when a sergeant from Limehouse’s neighbouring K Division is found, hurled from a Whitechapel tenement window on to the iron railings below, Reid (Matthew Macfadyen) is quick to act. If the police are to be so publicly assaulted on his streets, what hope for law-abiding civilian life?

Investigations into the man’s activities lead them to the newly emergent Chinatown of the Limehouse dockside; and from there into the orbit of K-Division’s Inspector Jedediah Shine. (Joseph Mawle)

Ripper Street Series 2 starts on Monday 28 October at 9.00 pm on BBC One

Game of Thrones: Benjen Stark may be missing in Westeros, but I know where he is. He's in Ripper Street

Game of Thrones: Jerome Flynn as Bronn, who wlll be co-starring with Joseph Mawle

Have you ever played the 'Where have I seen them before' game, which is exceptionally fun when you use the cast of Game of Thrones, as it has such a large selection of actors and actresses it's almost impossible not to have seen them before in something else. For example did anyone know that Mark Addy, who played Robert Baratheon was in the hit English comedy 'The Full Monty' I don't think so!

Well now you can do quite the opposite, rather than finding what an actor was in before they did Game of Thrones, you can quietly watch them knowing that you saw them in Game of Thrones first. This is because there are enough Game of Thrones actors to fill every season of every drama ever so it's no surprise that some of them end up being used by other excellent television series. Which is why one of them is appearing in BBC's second series of 'Ripper Street.

Joseph Mawle plays Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones. But hasn't been seen since he went 'ranging' north of the Wall way back when, naturally he's a Stark so this should have been expected. What has happened to Benjen is one of the greater mysteries fans of George R.R. Martin's novels discuss on a regular basis, but discuss no further. I have found him.

He's turning up on BBC's Ripper Street, which is great because it's not like he has a lot to do over in Westeros. 'Ripper Street' is a crime procedural drama set in Whitechapel shortly after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders. Mawle will be playing an antagonistic character called Jedidiah Shane, who is a corrupt rival investigator to the main 'Ripper Street' boys lead by Matthew Macfayden.

The new series of the hit BBC drama reunites 19th Century copper Reid (Matthew Macfadyen), with his crime fighting pals Drake (Jerome Flynn) and Jackson (Adam Rothenberg).

They face trouble from within the force from corrupt rival inspector Jedidiah Shine played by Mawle.

Macfadyen said: “It’s fantastic to be reunited with much of the wonderful cast and crew. Also to be reunited with my bowler hat – I’d missed it.

“The creator (Richard Warlow) has given us wonderful, strange and unsettling episodes – teeming with the fierce and fragile life of Victorian Whitechapel.”

The Wire’s David Costabile will play Jackson’s older brother, Daniel, who arrives in the district for the two-part finale.
