Judi Dench hitches a ride on the Indian set of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2

Dame Judi Dench gave the Golden Globes a miss this year, despite her nomination, because she was back on set to film the sequel to British-Indian comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

The award-winning actress was given a ride on to the Jaipur set where she got ready to film scenes as hotel resident Evelyn, with returning cast members Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup and Diana Hardcastle.

But soon Judi, 79, will be welcoming American actor Richard Gere, who was recently announced as the latest addition to the cast.

But with only one vacancy left in the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful, Richard's character is pit against another would-be guest, played by Tamsin Greig, for the room.

John Madden returns to the director's chair with Bill Nighy also set to reprise his role.

IT’S good Colin Firth doesn’t fumble his lines at awards dos.

He’s agreed to return as stammering monarch George VI for a sequel to The King’s Speech – the role that earned him a stack of trinkets including a Best Actor Oscar.

Stars of the original — Helena Bonham Carter, who played George’s wife Queen Elizabeth, and Geoffrey Rush, who was the king’s speech therapist — have also said they are desperate to return, along with director Tom Hooper.

A movie source said the sequel will be set during the carnage of World War Two’s Blitz.

Amazingly it will not focus on how George struggled to control his stammer as bombs rained down on London. The insider said: “The sequel is going to be about the experience of families during the Blitz. It will focus on how the privileged Royal Family was hit by the crisis, compared to the more ordinary family of George VI’s speech therapist.

“The focus will be on George but it will also show how the whole royal household was affected. There’s still amazing interest in the Blitz. The movie is still in the very early stages but everyone’s keen to get going soon.”

Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott came clean recently about his intentions for a sequel.
The sci-fi hit that was equal parts action and philosophy AND it slaughtered so many of its main characters, we were honestly curious how he could approach it.

Worry not! The 74 year-old director has a plan.

He said:

"From the very beginning, I was working from a premise that lent itself to a sequel… I really don't want to meet God in the first one. I want to leave it open to [Noomi Rapace's character Dr Elizabeth Shaw] saying, 'I don't want to go back to where I came from. I want to go where they came from'.”

Prometheus: Is It Any Good? Early Reviews Are In! Today 10:32 AM PDT by PETER GICAS (E ON LINE)

When it comes to Prometheus, the critics have spoken.

Well, a few of them have, at least, as early reviews are already starting to trickle in for director Ridley Scott's highly anticipated supposed prequel-of-sorts to Alien starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Swedish Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace.


"Ridley Scott's third venture into science-fiction, after Alien in 1979 and Blade Runner in 1982, won't become a genre benchmark like those classics despite its equivalent seriousness and ambition," writes The Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy. "But it does supply enough visual spectacle, tense action and sticky, slithery monster attacks to hit the spot with thrill-seeking audiences worldwide."

While "elaborately conceived from a visual standpoint," notes Variety's Justin Chang, it nevertheless "remains earthbound in narrative terms, forever hinting at the existence of a higher intelligence without evincing much of its own," adding that "the film conspicuously lacks the long, drawn-out silences and sense of menace in close quarters that made Alien so elegantly unnerving."

We were beside ourselves with excitement when film bosses confirmed everyone’s favourite singleton Bridget Jones was set to return to screens. And it seems we weren’t the only ones.
Colin Firth has spoken of his excitement at reprising his famous role as Mark Darcy, revealing he can’t wait to be reunited with the rest of the cast.

‘It'll be nice [to be reunited],’ the actor told news channel CNN.
‘It would be like one of those rather tempestuous '70s pop bands trying to get together in a way,’ he joked. ‘We always had a good time.’

Earlier this month it was revealed film bosses are in talks to hire Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo for the movie - reportedly to be named Bridget Jones's Baby - and are planning to start work on filming as early as the beginning of next year.

It's thought Bridesmaids director Paul Feig had originally been signed up for the role.

But after several drafts of the initial script, it seems film bosses decided a British director would be better suited to the job, and tracked down director of The Full Monty, Peter Cattaneo.

Now it's reportedly full steam ahead for the movie, with filming set to start in January 2012.

Gary Oldman to return to 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' role?

Plans are apparently afoot to film the follow-up novel 'Smiley's People'

Gary Oldman looks set to reprise his role from Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy.

The Dark Knight Rises star won rave reviews playing George Smiley in the recent adaptation of John le Carre's espionage novel. And now, he has revealed that plans are underway to give the same treatment to follow-up novel Smiley's People.

Oldman told Coming Soon:

I think they're whispering that they might do a Smiley's People, not so much as a sequel, because there's a book in the middle actually, but we’ve set up the world and we’ll revisit.

Directed by Thomas Alfredson and co-starring Colin Firth, the film is getting a US release on December 9, following its UK opening in September.

The 1974 novel concerns George Smiley, a British cold war operative who had been forced into retirement. Oldman is currently shooting The Dark Knight Rises, in what will be his third, and presumably final outing as Commissioner Gordon.

Man of Steel 2 Already in the Works?; Henry Cavill Compares Movie to The New 52

Warner Bros. upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel won't be opening for another year and a half, but rumors are already circulating that a sequel is in the works.

According to ThinkMcFlyThink, the studio is pleased with what they've seen from Man of Steel and have already compiled a shortlist of writers for a possible sequel, including Steve Kloves (the Harry Potter movies), Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim), and Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark). No deals are in place for any writer, nor does the report claim that an offer is in place at this point. The report also claims that the studio is pleased with the recent rewrites from husband-and-wife screenwriting team Kieran and Michele Mulroney (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows). David Goyer wrote the original script.

No trailer has been officially released for Man of Steel, though Warners has released an official image of Henry Cavill as Superman. Of course, Warners has to hope that Man of Steel becomes a franchise. The studio has yet to capitalize on its DC Comics properties outside of the Batman movies, but the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises is the final sequel for director Christopher Nolan (who is producing Man of Steel), which could mean that a fourth installment would be without the director and possibly, lead Christian Bale.

Warner Bros. also started writing Green Lantern 2 prior to the release of this summer's Green Lantern, but the comic book adaptation fell short of expectations and the sequel has yet to become official.

While the public is yet to see what's in store with Man of Steel, the movie will be in keeping with current DC comics. In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Cavill compared Man of Steel with The New 52, DC's reboot of their entire comic book line, in that audiences will be better able to identify with the character.

When that came out, everyone went, "Arrhhh! Everything's changed." It's part of the evolution of the character. There is a modernization to it, and certainly our style is making him easier to associate with because it's pretty tough to associate with an invulnerable alien.

That may or many not be good news for comic book fans, but, presuming the report is correct, it seems to work for Warner Bros.

James McAvoy talks X-Men: First Class sequel ideas

Exclusive: “I’d be up for it”

Total Film recently sat down with the new Professor X, James McAvoy, and naturally we grilled him about the potential of a sequel to X-Men: First Class.

When we asked him if he’d be up for a follow up to Matthew Vaughn’s mutant prequel, McAvoy told us, “I’d be up for it. But the truth is I’m contractually obliged to be up for it because they made us all sign multiple picture deals!”

But does he have any idea where the story will go, following on from the ending of First Class?

“I’ve spoken to Matthew [Vaughn] about ideas, but I can’t tell you what they are because they may or may not be the story. One thing I liked about our one was that it was different from the other three films where the X-Men are the good guys, Wolverine’s figuring out who he is and Magneto is the bad guy.

“This was a completely different thing. Magneto wasn’t a bad guy, we were friends. We’re now set up to go back to the way the other movies are, so we’ve got to try to be cleverer than that.”
