Benedict Cumberbatch Is "Very Flattered and Slightly Bemused" About His Heartthrob Status - POP SUGAR (OH NO THEY DIDN'T)

Benedict Cumberbatch was one of the celeb guests at Saturday's Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at New Jersey's Liberty State Park. He mingled with his Star Trek 2 costar Zoe Saldana, as well as fellow Brits like Matthew Rhys and Clive Owen, who cohosted the challenge with Argentine polo star Nacho Figueras. We snagged a couple minutes at the VIP tent with Benedict, who was flying somewhat under the radar. The much-hyped star of BBC hit Sherlock was happy to talk about the ongoing Diamond Jubilee in his native London, and what it was like joining the Star Trek family. Benedict also touched on what life is like as a newly-minted heartthrob.

Benedict said:

PopSugar: We're here celebrating a very English sport, polo, while back in London, the Diamond Jubilee is going on! Are you excited for the queen's 60th anniversary?

Benedict Cumberbatch: I am exited for the Jubilee. I feel a bit of a treason-worthy abscondee. I planned to have a holiday here a long while after I finished shooting a film I've just done. I guess that's why I am here rather than over there. It's very exciting. We've got three huge events, really, in this next couple of months, this being a kickoff for it. I think, like lots of places in Europe, we need all the home-spun joy and festivities and celebrations we can get at the moment.

PopSugar: Does that mean you're attending the Olympics?

Benedict: I am as much as anyone who doesn't have a ticket can go to the Olympics. I'm going to avoid all the traffic and maybe see the best events at home, I think. But we'll see, hopefully. I haven't really made any plans, to be honest, to go, but I'm really, really excited about hosting it.

PopSugar: You're obviously talking about Star Trek 2. How was it joining that cast to make the movie?

Benedict: Fantastic. Zoe's just my amazing, good friend. The whole thing was just an absolute blast. I mean really, really good fun. I had a terrific time doing it.

Michael Fassbender & Benedict Cumberbatch are finally going to work together (CELEBITCHY)

Ah, new Fassbender photos! And new Benedict Cumberbatch photos! Isn’t today glorious? These are photos of Michael Fassbender and the cast of Prometheus celebrating after the Thursday night premiere in London. Fassy & Company went out to 34 for dinner and drinks. Guess who Fassy’s date was? HIS MOM – she‘s the dark-haired lady with bangs, wearing jeans. His mom’s name is Adele (sigh…) and she was also his date to the BAFTAs back in February. Fassy is really close to his family, including his doctor sister.

I’m also including photos of Benedict Cumberbatch at “The Fifth Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic” in New Jersey yesterday. I’m sure it was a paid appearance – I mean, why else would Cumby go to Jersey? No disrespect to New Jersey. But Cumby is a posh bastard. He wouldn’t deign to go to Jersey unless he was getting paid. You might be asking yourself: “Kaiser, why do you insist on drawing my attention away from Michael Fassbender’s p0rnographic ginger and forcing me to pay attention to the delicious richness known as CUMBY?” That is an excellent question, darling. My answer: Cumby and Fassy will become ONE. Sort of! Cumby has just signed on to Fassbender’s new film (with director Steve McQueen), Twelve Years a Slave.

So… Fassbender, Cumby and Brad Pitt… all in the same film. And Brad is producing it. Which makes me wonder… I know Brad is a huge fan of Fassy’s, but is Brad also hopelessly SHERLOCKED?

Clive Owen: RACHEL ZOE BRINGS SKYLER ALONG FOR A POLO DAY WITH CLIVE OWEN (Attention LUCY PARKER) Posted on June 2, 2012 4:59PM by Allie Merriam (POP SUGAR)

Clive Owen hosted the fifth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic this afternoon with polo player Nacho Figueras and Nacho's wife, Delfina Blaquier. The trio were among the first to arrive at the Jersey City, NJ, location for the match. It was the first time the space was used, since in years past, the polo match was held on New York's Governors Island. A long list of celeb guests were ferried over to Jersey, including Clive's Blood Ties costar Zoe Saldana, Minka Kelly, Padma Lakshmi, Once Upon a Time's Jennifer Morrison, and models like Jessica Stam, Alek Wek, and Hilary Rhoda. Rachel Zoe was among the last to arrive, bringing husband Rodger Berman and their son, Skyler, who was dressed for the occasion in a mini-striped suit. Rachel's friend and makeup artist Joey Maalouf went as well, and he kept a close eye on Skyler.

Clive admitted that this was actually his first polo match, and he was happy to come because he'll be in the Big Apple for the next month working on Blood Ties with director Guillaume Canet. In the VIP enclosure, he caught up with his fellow Brit Matthew Rhys. Matthew made the rounds with UK socialite Poppy Delevingne. It was a veritable UK fest — appropriate, considering that the Diamond Jubilee kicked off in London today.

Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch was low-key as he said hello to friends, but there was a long line of ladies wanting to say hello to the actor, who's fresh off a stint on the set of the forthcoming Star Trek sequel.
