Downton Abbey - Season Three


Late last week it was announced that ITV, the biggest commercial television network in the UK, has commissioned eight new episodes of the successful and award-winning Downton Abbey, which was created and written by Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park).

The second season of this popular period piece drama will air on PBS here in the United States starting on January 8, 2012; but it has already aired in the UK, averaging 11.5 million viewers. These numbers have made the series the most popular drama on UK television for over 10 years.
The third season will be set in 1920 and 1921, covering a period of 18 months in the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them.

The cast returning will include amongst others Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Penelope Wilton, Dan Stevens, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jessica Findlay Brown, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, Rob James-Collier, Siobhan Finneran, Joanne Froggatt, Brendan Coyle, Allen Leech and Amy Nuttall.

Downton Abbey has been awarded 6 2011 primetime Emmy’s, including Outstanding Miniseries Or Movie, Outstanding Writing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Dramatic Special and Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie awarded to the legendary actress Maggie Smith [among others]. The series has also won several awards in the UK, including 2 BAFTA Awards.
