Benedict Cumberbatch discusses the assumptions people make about him based on the characters he plays (THE GUARDIAN)

It's been a while since Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch complained about "posh-bashing" and people castigating him as a "moaning, rich, public school bastard". He is complaining again – or is he? – in the latest issue of Radio Times, about the assumptions people make about him based on the characters he plays. "They know you from the trail you leave with your work," he told the listings magazine. "They assume things about you because of who you play and how you play them, and the other scraps floating around in the ether. People try to sew together a narrative out of scant fact."

It's an article taken out of context from Radio Times and quite frankly very low, cheap and lazy journalism from the Guardian; also very vicious and inaccurate headline and context to elicit controversies where there is none if you read the interview on Radio Times. Never have thought of that I will read such bullshit on this blog.

sorry you feel that way. It was the headline of the article and I always try to keep what the original writer wrote. It's a cheap ploy by the writer for controversy and attention since the article itself simply states Benedict's sensible comment that people know you from your trail of work. I knew that it would ruffle feathers but didn't mean to offend you.

Thanks for responding, but such a lazy article should never have been re-posted again.Linking the Guardian is just going to increase the hits on the article and encourage more lazy, twisted and out of context BS in the future.

I'm going to change the title because I think that's the most offensive part - the article is not too bad. You know anything w/Benedict's name attached is going to go thru the roof. I was so stupidly happy to see something w/his name that I took a chance and posted this. Not much new is coming out of his publicity department right now. I'll use his quote instead, because that's the who gist of the story anyway.

Again, thanks so much for your prompt response. What makes the Guardian article so bad is that not only the title is offensive, the content regarding the posh-bashing and his "complaint" about how the media painted him is, right from the beginning, twisted and out of context from his interview last year. Here's a link for a scan of the original interview on Radio Times, you can read for yourself that he actually mainly talked about his forthcoming radio play on BBC Radio 3.

You know what's so maddening is this article states it's the latest issue of Radio Times but I can't find this article anywhere on the net under Radio Times. You say it's from last year? What is The Majestic Llamarcorn? Can you send me a link to that article?
