Filming recently wrapped on the movie adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, which is being directed by The Wachowskis (The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), and stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Keith David, Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, Hugh Grant and Susan Sarandon.
Warner Bros., the US distributor for the film, have yet to reveal any promotional images or posters for Cloud Atlas, but some pretty interesting concept art has recently appeared online.
The concept art may not reflect exactly what we’ll see in the final film, which follows six storylines ranging from the South Pacific in the 19th Century to California in the 1970s to a post-apocalyptic future, but the scene above which takes place in 2144 Seoul looks big on sci-fi.
The image below seems to blend some of the stories, with a ship from the story of Adam Ewing set in 1850 approaching the futuristic version of Seoul. If the studio decided to go this route with the marketing we could be seeing some rather unique posters and promotional material.
s well as the concept art Korean site Hancinema also got our first look at actress Bae Doona who plays Sonmi~451, a genetically-engineered clone who rebels against the capitalist totalitarian society that created and exploited her kind. The 5th tale of David Mitchell’s novel could be a movie in itself, but it’s a single (key) segment in the overall story and the concept art above shows the The Wachowskis are thinking big in regards to creating a futuristic society in which Sonmi’s story takes place.
The ambitious Cloud Atlas will be released towards the end of 2012.
