Hugh Grant rules out ‘stuttering’ roles added: 10 Apr 2012 // by: Film-News.co.uk Newsdesk

Hugh Grant refuses to play anymore “stuttering British guys” in movies.

The actor is renowned for starring in romantic comedies including Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill. However, Hugh insists he is moving on to more challenging roles in movies such as Cloud Atlas. He plays six different characters in the film which also stars Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.

"What I don't want to play anymore are stuttering British guys with dishevelled hair that are confused by love. These times are definitely over,” he told the German edition of InStyle. “In Cloud Atlas I play six incarnations of evil. That's something which interests me."

Based upon the sci-fi novel by David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas follows six intricately related stories that travel from the remote South Pacific in the nineteenth century to a distant, post-apocalyptic future. Hugh admits playing so many different roles was difficult and worries he is only capable of pulling off one type of character.
