Brendan Coyle: 'I'm not a sex symbol' 24 October 2012, 04:00pm (VIRGINMEDIA)

Brendan Coyle does not see himself as a sex symbol.

The 'Downton Abbey' star, who plays humble footman Mr Bates, admits that while he enjoys playing the lovable servant he believes that people's infatuation with him is down to their interpretation of the character.
He explained: ''I think that's all in the eye of the beholder and all that. When I thought about playing Bates I thought about both of my grandfathers, men of a different time.

''He doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve and he's not a modern man. What I love about Bates is the things he doesn't say.''

Brendan, 48, also revealed that there are finally some happy moments for Mr Bates coming up as he is released from prison after being framed for murder and reunited with his wife Anna, played by Joanne Froggatt.
