'It's a fluke': Henry Cavill is super humble as he opens up about landing Man of Steel role and cementing his star status By IONA KIRBY (MAIL ON LINE)



He narrowly missed out on becoming Superman in a proposed 2004 remake and was runner-up to Daniel Craig to portray the next James Bond.

But now it is finally Henry Cavill’s time to shine, and with his movie Man of Steel just around the corner, the actor’s star status is set to be cemented.

The 29-year-old Brit was humble when he chatted about landing the iconic role – particularly as he beat out so many American actors to do it.



He told the December 2012 issue of Details magazine: ‘I suppose it’s a fluke… It’s about who looks right for the character and for the generation it’s being cast for.

‘If you only look at the American market, you’re narrowing down your options an awful lot. The point of acting is to pretend you’re someone else and sell a story.’

He explained: ‘Chris Hemsworth is an Australian man, not a god from Asgaard. It would be even more fluke-y if every person who was playing a superhero was American.’
