Robert Downey Jnr. and Benedict Cumberbatch come face-to-face at Producers Guild Awards

They have played the same famous character for years, but always evaded meeting face-to-face.

But the professional lives of Benedict Cumberbatch and Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jnr. finally collided when they met at the Producers Guild Awards in California on Sunday.

The pair, who each play the titular role of Sherlock Holmes in the big and small screen versions, were spotted enjoying some playful rivalry as they partied backstage in the Beverly Hills Hotel.
