Downton Abbey:(SPOILERS) I was shocked to learn Ethel was coming back...as a prostitute THE SUN
Amy plays housemaid Ethel Parks, who was sacked after becoming pregnant by an Army major during the last series.
Amy — who joined the ITV period drama last year — admits she thought viewers had seen the last of the feisty single mum and her baby son Charlie.
She told TV Biz: “I was told that was it. So it was a very nice, welcome, surprise phone call that I received late last year to say that writer Julian Fellowes felt he hadn’t quite finished the storyline off.
“It was great to come back and see what else he had written for Ethel — and it was a very unexpected storyline. But actually you go, ‘Yeah, that makes sense.’ Ethel probably would resort to certain ways.
“Back in those days, having a child out of wedlock was the worst thing that could happen to a young woman. You were spurned from society, by everybody.”

Downton Abbey: Cast members must burn their scripts By Ed Gleave (DAILY STAR)
DOWNTON Abbey bosses are demanding stars burn show scripts – in fear top secret storylines will be leaked.
Chiefs on the hit ITV1 drama, back on telly next month, are insisting cast members destroy them as soon as they’ve learned their lines.
• Show star Amy Nuttall, 30, told us: “We’re all under very strict instructions to keep the scripts safe.
“We have to shred or burn them as soon as we’ve memorised them. We can’t just throw them in the bin in case they end up in the wrong hands.
“I get so terrified when a script comes through my front door. I worry I’m going to leave it on a train or in a taxi.”

Papermag was poking around on PBS' Downton Abbey website recently, when we noticed a video Q&A with actress Siobhan Finneran (who plays meddling maid O'Brien) and were struck by how glamorous she was in real life. This got us wondering what the rest of the cast looked like out of their 1912 frocks and waist coasts, and, below, we've rounded up some off-screen versus on-screen photo comparisons for your viewing pleasure. (All we'll say is hello actor-who-plays-Mr.-Bates Brendan Coyle! We'd let you help us dress for dinner any day of the week) Check out all the pics below.
P.S. Spoiler-ish alert: If you haven't seen any of season 2, you're about to meet some new characters. Also, this list does not include new season-three cast member Shirley MacLaine. You'll just have to guess what she looks like with a giant hat on.On-screen: Mr. Bates, played by Brendan Coyle

Downton Abbey makes a triumphant return (spoilers)
Sep 16 2011 by Roz Laws, Sunday Mercury
(SPOILER ALERT)
In fact, Downton Abbey is better than ever, because we know the characters by now and become emotionally invested in their futures.
Which are decidedly dicey, as we’ve moved on two years and it’s now 1916, at the height of the First World War. Or Great War, as they call it.
Downton’s heir Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) has been fighting on the front line but is due to return on leave, much to the excitement of Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) who still holds a candle for him. But her catty sister Edith wastes no time in telling her that Matthew is not coming alone.
Two can play at that game, and Mary meets newspaper proprietor Sir Richard Carlisle (Iain Glen).
Also seeing more battles than he bargained for is nasty footman Thomas, who volunteered as a medic in the hope that would take him out of action. But he finds himself covered in mud and blood in the hell of The Somme, experiencing horrors that will change him forever.
Back in Yorkshire, Robert, the Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) is desperate to help with the war effort. And, shocked at the mass destruction of young lives, youngest daughter Sybil enrols in nursing training and learns to drive.
“Sometimes it feels as if all the men I’ve danced with are dead,” she says tearfully.
Butler Carson (Jim Carter) has only one footman left and has to cope with the ‘upstairs’ family invading the ktichen as they learn how to bake a cake. You can imagine what the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) has to say about that.
Anna (Joanna Frogatt) is pleased when valet John Bates (Brendan Coyle) returns from London, while Amy Nuttall joins the cast as a new housemaid Ethel.
The really good news is that we can look forward to eight captivating episodes and a Christmas special. It all starts with a 90-minute episode. Enjoy!

DOWNTON ABBEY'S AMY NUTTALL NOT RETURNING FOR 3RD SERIES
METRO TV REPORTER & BANG TV - 15th September, 2011
Downton Abbey's Amy Nuttall: I'm not returning for third series
Amy Nuttall has revealed her Downton Abbey character Ethel Parks will make her exit from the period drama before series three begins.

Amy Nuttall, who plays Ethel Parks in Downton Abbey, has revealed her character will not be in the third series of the popular drama (Picture: ITV)
The 29-year-old beauty – who previously starred as Chloe Atkinson in Emmerdale – explained she will not be coming back for a third season of the programme, but she was reluctant to unveil details of her alter-ego's fate. She told The Sun newspaper: 'I am not optioned for a third series, only the second, so that might give you an indication of where my character goes.'
Amy is set to play a rebellious housemaid in the show – which features Dame Maggie Smith as Violet, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, and Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham – who caters for the aristocratic Crawley family.
The flame-haired actress – who starred in Emmerdale for five years and played fictional character Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady – believes Downton is the 'best job' she has worked on, although she admitted working with Harry Potter star Maggie was a daunting prospect because of her fame.
She added: 'I felt like a proper new girl on her first day at school with an already close-knit family that have made the series so successful.
'But they have all welcomed me with open arms.
'Added to that, on my very first day I was filming a scene with Maggie Smith which made it all the more terrifying.'
